A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Hasbro just revealed a stunning retro Kenner-inspired deco for the Star Wars Vintage Collection X-wing, and boy are we thrilled! Huge thanks to @yak_face for posting these images and all the details. This one is really cool, featuring that classic Kenner paint style that takes us right back to the original toy aisle days of 1978. The set includes a carded Luke Skywalker X-wing Pilot figure (VC420), all done up in that nostalgic retro deco that just screams vintage Kenner. I love how Hasbro leans into that heritage with The Vintage Collection, and this is such a fun way to celebrate where it all started for so many of us as collectors. The X-wing will be available exclusively on Hasbro Pulse starting August 20 at 1pm ET, priced at $139.99. I always loved the original Kenner X-wing as a kid, and seeing that aesthetic applied to a modern mold with the retro color palette is super exciting. The fact that the Luke comes carded in that classic Kenner-style packaging just adds so much to the whole presentation. How cool is that?! Whether you’re a lifelong Kenner kid or a newer collector who appreciates the history behind the hobby, this one really bridges the generations in such a fun way. Will we see more retro Kenner-inspired decos for other vehicles down the line? Only time will tell. So let’s take a look at the Star Wars Vintage Collection Retro Kenner Inspired Deco X-wing!

The main packaging photo gives you a great look at the X-Wing Fighter’s retro Kenner-inspired deco, with simplified red and yellow stripe markings running along the fuselage that feel much closer to the original 1978 toy than to any screen-accurate version. I like how they tucked a Kenner-styled R2-D2 into the astromech socket, his blue dome and white body keeping that same vintage toy aesthetic consistent across the whole package. I believe R2-DS is not included but is shown for demonstration purposes.

The packaging leans heavily into that classic Kenner box design, with the familiar white border framing a bold red interior where the X-Wing Fighter sits with its S-foils locked in attack position. A small inset in the upper right corner shows the included Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) figure on a miniature Kenner-style card back, which is a really nice nostalgic touch.

Here’s a closer look at the X-Wing Fighter with its S-foils spread wide, and you can really appreciate how those four black laser cannons extend from each wingtip with their tapered sculpt and subtle ribbed detailing. The cockpit canopy is open just enough to reveal a pilot figure inside wearing the classic orange flight suit, with R2-D2’s blue and white dome poking up from the astromech slot just behind.

The fuselage sculpt is loaded with recessed panel lines, vents, and raised mechanical detailing that give the X-Wing Fighter a surprising amount of surface complexity beneath those simplified retro color blocks. You can see how the red and yellow stripes along the nose read as distinctly toy-inspired rather than screen-accurate, keeping the whole vehicle rooted in that 1978 Kenner spirit.

Luke Skywalker stands alongside R2-D2 next to the X-Wing Fighter, and I’m really digging how both figures carry that same simplified vintage color palette, from Luke’s flat orange flight suit to R2’s clean white and blue panels. The four laser cannons with their forked tips are displayed detached here, giving you a sense of their length and how substantial they are as individual pieces before snapping into the wingtips.
