Gym Bro Skeletor MOTU Chronicles SDCC 2026 Exclusive Review

First off, massive thanks to Mattel for sending Gym Bro Skeletor our way for free so we can review him and share him with you. I’ve been wanting to take a closer look at Gym Bro Skeletor ever since Mattel revealed it as part of their SDCC 2026 lineup, and now that I’ve got him out of the box, the whole concept lands even better in hand than it did in promo shots. For those not caught up, this figure is pulled directly from a mind-meld attack sequence in the 2026 Masters of the Universe movie, where Skeletor invades He-Man’s psyche and apparently decides to taunt him in full gym rat mode. It’s absurd in the best way. The 6-inch scale figure carries 32 points of articulation, which is right in line with what we’ve come to expect from the Chronicles line, and the sculpt leans hard into the comedy of the concept without losing that underlying Skeletor menace. The accessories are where this one really commits: you get two dumbbells with actual metal accents that have a nice weight to them, a barbell with a huge weight stack, a tiny custom gym towel, and a set of interchangeable hands so you can swap between gripping poses and open flex stances. The window-box packaging is designed to let you display him in several poses without even opening it, which is a nice touch for the MOC collectors out there. I appreciate that Mattel didn’t play this one safe; it’s a deep cut from the film that rewards fans paying attention.

Packaging

The front of the slipcover features a bold illustrated Skeletor curling a barbell, set against a radiating burst of blue and orange, with the gym scene framed by a thin border. On the back, he’s lifting his hoodie to flash his abs alongside the text “BY THE POWER OF THESE ABS,” and the whole thing has this playful, retro poster energy that totally sells the concept.

Each side panel of the slipcover carries its own gym-themed quote in bold stacked typography, with “CRUSH YOUR WORKOUT THEN CRUSH YOUR ENEMIES” on one side and “IT IS HARD WORK BEING THIS BAD” on the other. The text fills nearly the entire panel on both sides, set against the same radiating burst pattern that wraps around the rest of the packaging.

The top of the slipcover features the illustrated Skeletor curling a barbell against that radiating burst pattern, while the bottom showcases the ram skull emblem centered on a purple and orange striped design. I love that both surfaces got full graphic treatment instead of just being blank panels, it really makes the whole package feel like a complete presentation piece.

The box design on Gym Bro Skeletor is genuinely fun, with a retro burst pattern radiating outward and the illustrated Skeletor crushing a barbell rep across the full width of the packaging. I love that the slipcover pulls apart to reveal the figure in the window box underneath, which is a really collector-friendly touch if you want to keep him sealed but still get a clean look at what’s inside.

Once the slipcover comes off, the interior window box has a clean design with a gradient wash behind the figure and a stylized card along the bottom. The back panel features an illustrated Gym Bro Skeletor hoisting a barbell overhead, set against bold radiating stripes, which carries the same playful energy as the slipcover art but with its own distinct composition.

The side panels of the interior window box each carry their own illustrated gym-themed artwork, with one side showing Skeletor in his hoodie and sneakers standing with fists clenched, and the other featuring bold stacked text reading “SORE TODAY, DEAD TOMORROW!” and “WORK OUT AND DO EVIL.” It’s a nice touch that each panel gets a completely different layout rather than mirroring the same design, giving the box real shelf presence from any angle.

The back of the box is packed with a full illustrated workout routine, and every exercise name is a deep-cut Masters of the Universe pun. Destruction Press, Roton Row, Die-Cept Curls, Tri-Klops Extensions, Lord of Squats, Havoc Raises, Calf Chaos, the commitment to the bit here is honestly incredible.

Here’s a great look at the included diorama, which unfolds into a full gym scene complete with illustrated dumbbells, a bench press rack, a cable machine, and an incline bench. You can set this up behind the figure for display or photography, and the gradient floor and retro color palette tie it right back to the box art.

Figure Details

The front view gives you a full look at the sleeveless hoodie with its printed ram skull logo on the chest, and the purple gym shorts sit cleanly over the blue skin with a nice contrast between the two. From the back, the hood has a really natural drape with sculpted folds that carry all the way down into the waistband, and the shorts have a smooth, clean finish that lets the sneaker and sock detailing below them do the heavy lifting.

From the sides, you can see how the sleeveless hoodie has a nice layered edge where it meets the arm openings, and the gym shorts have a subtle seam line running down each leg. The striped bands on the tube socks wrap cleanly around from every angle, and the sneakers have that same sculpted panel detail all the way through to the heel.

The close-up on the branding shows an “EVIL” patch on the front of the shorts, while the front of the sweat outfit has the ram skull logo printed directly into the material. I love that they gave him branded gym wear with two different applications, one recessed patch and one surface print, which keeps it from feeling like a simple logo repeat.

The hoodie is made from a gummy, pliable material, which means you can actually pull the hood back off his head to show off the full skull sculpt underneath. That’s a really smart material choice, because it gives you two distinct display options without needing a separate head swap.

The sculpted sneakers have a ton of character, with individually laced eyelets, layered panels, and a small skull-and-crossbones emblem on the side. The tube socks have a ribbed knit texture with striped bands at the top, and honestly, those little details are what make this figure so fun.

The full accessory spread is laid out here, and I love that they went all-in with a barbell, two dumbbells, a pair of swap-out hands, and a towel with the ram skull logo printed on it. The towel has a nice textured weave to it, which is a fun little touch you don’t usually see packed in with a figure like this.

The Chronicles-style articulation really pays off here, and you can see how well the barbell accessory works with the figure’s range of motion. They even sculpted a slight bend into the bar itself, which is a great little detail that mimics how a real barbell would flex under a heavy load.

The barbell accessory is packed with detail, with each plate stamped with weight markings, “LBS,” “KGS,” and “Superior Barbell” branding molded right into the surface. That level of sculpted text on something this small is really impressive, and the metal accents on the bar ends sell the miniature gym equipment look.

The dumbbell has such a realistic look to it, with individually stacked plates that have distinct ridges and separation lines between each weight. You can see how the grip section between the plates has a nice chunky proportion that makes the whole thing feel like a properly scaled piece of gym equipment.

Up close with the dumbbells, you can see they carry the same bone-themed branding as the barbell, with a small skull-and-crossbones emblem stamped into the center of each weight plate. It’s such a fun commitment to the bit that Skeletor would put his personal mark on every piece of gym equipment.

Gym Bro Skeletor looks fantastic set up in the diorama, and the gym scene really gives him a context that most figures never get. The dumbbells have a chunky, realistic proportion to them with individually stacked plates that sell the miniature weight room vibe.

You can see how the towel has a really dense, looped weave texture that gives it a convincing terrycloth feel, and the ram skull logo on the pocket section is a nice match for the one printed on the hoodie. I like that they committed to making this a fully realized accessory with its own pointed hood shape rather than just a flat rectangle.
