Meet the Bearded Buddies & The Toy Sorceress
Hi, I’m Michael
He might be 46, but he’s really 12. Perpetually 12. Well, at least that’s what his kids think. Even at the young age of 3, his son knew to ask, “Is this my toy or Daddy’s” before picking something up and playing with it because they each had their own sets! Nowadays, Michael collects GI Joes from the 80’s to the Classified Series, various Masters of the Universe lines, Generation 1 and War for Cybertron Transformers, and M.A.S.K.
Fun facts about Michael: He has been a power seller on eBay for 18 years and was once featured along with his toys in an eBay commercial. Much to his wife’s dismay, he can watch movies over and over and never gets tired of them (c’mon, how many times can one watch Back to the Future?) During quarantine, Michael started shaving designs in his beard and decided that he closely resembles Tony Stark (ummmm, maybe not).
…and I’m Larry
Larry has been collecting for about 25 years. He collected GI Joe starting with Valor vs Venom and running through the entire 25th Anniversary line and has been enjoying the Classified and Retro Collection releases lately. Masters of the Universe has been one of his favorites to collect over the years, starting with the Commemorative figures, then going through 200x, Neca Statues and mini statues, Classics (IMHO, one of the best toy lines of all time), and now Mega Construx, and Origins.
Fun facts about Larry: he has a veritable zoo at his house with dogs, a bearded dragon (how appropriate for Larry), and a new cat named Phoebe. He loves his flannel shirts and spends way too much money on candles from Yankee Candle and Bath & Body Works. Larry is the resident beard expert and loves beard oil. Yeah, we don’t want him to shave his beard either. Don’t do it, Larry!
…and I’m The Toy Sorceress
She was a child of the 80’s, toys and pop culture played a very big role in her life. Saturday mornings with a big bowl of fruit loops and an episode of He Man, She-Ra, G.I Joe or Super Friends were always the best way for her to start her weekends! She has fond memories with her sister playing toys, creating little adventures, and, even in some cases, building their own play sets! She one time created a makeshift Hall of Justice and Bat Cave made out of cardboard. Now an architect, she realizes that building must always have been in her blood!
You won’t recognize The Toy Sorceress from YouTube and that’s because she’s hard at work behind the scenes! She responds to comments on social media, maintains the Toy Habits Instagram account, writes toy reviews for the website, and helps track down the latest toy news. She really is magical!
We Met Buying Toys
Here’s the weirdest fact about Michael & Larry. We’ve never met. Nope. Not once. It all started in early 2020…
Back when COVID was looming on the horizon, Michael bought a MOTU 200x Prince Adam figure from Larry on eBay. A random chat from Larry asking Michael if he was looking forward to the new MOTU Origins line was the beginning of their friendship.
We live nearly 2000 miles apart and have never met in person but have developed a great friendship because we are so much alike and, of course, our Toy Habits.
