Summary
2022 San Diego Comic-Con gave us a whole bunch of amazing exclusives and this new Super 7 Ultimates Color Changing Hook Mountain is one of the best! Are you hot or cold on this figure? The kicker is, it’s a freakin’ color changing figure that, when exposed to sunlight, changes color from regular skin to blue skin and vice versa! This reminds me of a certain color changing figure from the 80’s, Zartan! With the new color changing technologies and pin-less joints, this new Hook Mountain Lion-O is a fun and very unique action figure! The cool factor (pun intended) is obviously the color changing skin but let’s take a closer look at the figure itself. Secrets of the Ice King episode
In the ThunderCats Rankin Bass Cartoon Secrets of the Ice King episode, the Ice King freezes Snowman and then Snowmeow seeks out Lion-O for help and Lion-O also ends up in a frozen state during his effort to rescue his friend. It is then left up to the rest of the ThunderCarts to rescue Lion-O and Snowman.

An old iceberg on Hook Mountain begins to melt, releasing an ancient being known as the Ice King who had been trapped in it for a thousand years. He begins to destroy Snowman‘s castle at the top of Hook Mountain. The Snowman tries to stop him but is frozen solid by the Ice King. Snowmeow, his faithful companion, seeks out Lion-O but upon his arrival on Hook Mountain, he too is frozen solid by the Ice King. Panthro, Tygra and Snarf arrive in the ThunderTank but they too meet the same fate. Only Cheetara is left and she arrives just in time to place the Sword of Omens in Lion-O’s hands, freeing him and he in turn frees the rest of the Cats and the Snowman. After a brief battle with the Ice King, the Cats realize that he is not evil and is just trying to get into the castle to find an ancient egg which has an image of his wife. The ThunderCats help to obtain the egg from the Pterodactyl guarding it and give it to the Ice King. After taking one last look at the image of his queen in the egg, the Ice King melts away.

Packaging
Part of what makes Super7 Ultimates, the “Ultimate” version of an action figure is their amazing packaging! These ThunderCats figures come in fantastic packaging which includes a beautiful slipcover that hides a spectacular figure within! But this being an SDCC Exclusive, it is extra premium! Let’s take a look at each of the different parts of the packaging.
Slip Cover
Just like the other Super7 Ultimates figures, the package design includes a slipcover with a very simple design, but with a really great upgrade! The slip cover is an ice blue color scheme with snow adorning the Thundercats symbol and also have a premium glossy metallic finish. Then there is a small cut out near the name of the figure that sets the title off. On the back there is a large beautiful Thundercats logo with snow adoring the bottom edge as well.
Inner Box
The most exciting part of opening a Super7 Ultimates figures is that moment when you slide the slip cover off to reveal the window display with the figure and amazing pack out of weapons and accessories inside the box! The slipcover hides another ThunderCats logo above the name of the figure and then you can clearly see everything that Hook Mountain Lion-O comes with! Also behind Lion-O is a cracked ice image. The back of the box features an amazing ThunderCats illustration of Lion-O with Hook Mountain in the background and a bio that reads:
During a heroic attempt to rescue Snarf from the villainous Ratar-O and Vultureman, Lion-O was dropped from the airborne RatStar. Although he plummeted from a great height, the hero’s fall was broken by the deep snows of Hook Mountain. Knocked unconscious, Lion-O remained buried in a snowdrift as his body took on a frigid, blue coloration. It is fortunate that Lion-O’s good friends Snowman and Snowmeow happened upon him. Snowman succeeded in waking Lion-O, then offered him a flask of mountain herb medicine. Although the beverage tasted awful, it helped to restore Lion-O’s health.
Pack Out
Hook Mountain Lion-O’s weapons and accessories are neatly organized in layered plastic clamshell packs that keep them free from movement.

Head Sculpt
The head sculpt that comes on the figure in the package has closed eyes, which we have not seen on a Super7 figure before that is a slight change in paint application to make this effect. In this case Lion-o has a blueish tinge to his skin tone to reflect the frozen state he was supposed to be in on Hook Mountain. His head is also made with a photochromic plastic, so Lion-O transforms from frozen blue to his more healthy orange skin tone when exposed to UV sunlight! This makes for some very fun display and diorama options.
The alternate head sculpt also shares the exact same head sculpt and look on his face as Mirror Lion-O of Wave 5. This head also has the same blueish tinge to his skin tone and is also made with the photochromic plastic that transforms from his color from frozen blue to his more healthy orange skin tone when exposed to sunlight!
Chest & Back
This version of Lion-O shares the same buck as Mirror Lion-O, except his chest is a light blue color with a slightly darker blue trim. He has the same ab crunch, which is nicely hidden by his shirt design. It is more obvious when seen from the back.
Arms / Waist / Legs
Arms:
Hook Mountain Lion-O’s arms again are the same sculpt as Mirror Lion-O, has the same blueish tinge to his skin tone and is also made with the photochromic plastic. His forearms are of a lighter gray color. As you can see compared to the original version of Lion-O, his elbow joints are pin-less, therefore making for a much more elegant looking design. This will be the same buck that will be used for the new Wave 6 LJN Toy Version of Lion-O as well.
Waist:
This waist again shares the same design as the latest Wave 5 Mirror Lion-O, but obviously with the Hook Mountain blue colorway. His belt is a teal color with white trim and he of course has a beautiful looking red and black ThunderCats symbol on his belt buckle. He is wearing light blue shorts that match his shirt color.
Legs:
His legs again share the same buck as Mirror Lion-O, and the nice thing about them is that they have an additional articulation point. He now includes thigh cuts, which the original version of original version of Lion-O did not have. Also you can see that you can notice this thigh cut as it seems they should have adjusted the length of his shorts to help hide that joint a little better. Just like the elbow joint, this new buck of Lion-O includes pin-less knee joints as well which look great and also move very smoothly. He also has ratcheted ankle joints to make for a much more stable stance.
Weapons & Accessories
Swords:
This Hook Mountain version of Lion-O includes 2 swords both the same sculpt as the original version of Lion-O . Except in this case, they have a frozen snow effect added to them. Also the Eye of Thundera and the ThunderCats symbol are very clear and very well done. You get:

- 1x Frozen Sword of Omens (Dagger Form)
Claw Shields:
You get multiple frozen versions of Lion-O’s claw shield with snow effects added to them. The fist and open clawshield are attached by the same type of peg as the interchangable hands. By removing Lion-O’s left hand, you then insert his wrist into the claw shield and bam there you go!
He includes the following claw shields:

This version of Lion-O comes with 8 sets of Interchangeable Hands. They include the following:

This new Hook Mountain Lion-O Super7 Ultimates figure is such a fun figure and gives us a preview of the new buck used for both Mirror Lion-O and the new upcoming LJN Vintage version Lion-O. This Hook Mountain Lion-O is a very cool nod to the Hook Mountain episode of the 1980’s Rankin Bass cartoon and is very fun to set up dioramas with! If any of you follow our Toy Habits Instagram page and The Toy Sorceress Instagram page, you will see the Toy Sorceress loves Toy Photography, so this new Hook Mountain Lion-O was a blast to pose and take photos of! His new body style with pin-less joints and flawless articulation really look amazing! The fun color changing technology used on Lion-O is such a fun feature! The only criticism I will give this figure is that the color changing is not very even and also lacking in the joints. So I am giving Hook Mountain Lion-O a score of 6.5 out of 6.5 stars! Hook Mountain Lion-O is a very fun addition to your collection, so we recommend you pick him up.
