The Savage He-Man and Orko Masters of Revelation Deluxe Two Pack was a pleasant surprise (and a spoiler) to Part 2 of the Revelation Netflix series as it was announced ahead of the cartoon. Although the standard Revelation buck is not well suited for how HUGE Savage He-Man was in the series, it does provide a nice balance of fits and finishes that I wasn’t expecting. Orko was a nice bonus as he was desperately needed in the line and I think the Orko sculpt is the best aspect of the pack.
Savage He-Man Figure
The first off the Savage He Man head sculpt appears to be using the head design that was packed with Faker and I really love this head sculpt because it’s a major improvement over the original release of the He-man head sculpt in the first wave of the Revelation figures. The hair has a very nice textured and layered look to it and it has some brown washing in the hair strands, which brings out an extra level of detail.
Chest and back
The chest is the standard He-Man Revelation buck but it is brown washed with some very nice detail in the crevices to make the abdomen, chest, and back muscles really stand out. If you take a closer look at the back, you can also see that there is a lot of fine detail and muscles that are showing in the upper portion of the back as well as the lower back.
The arms use the standard Masters of the Universe Revelation Buck but, again, the brown washing really brings out the detail in the muscles. The figures comes packed with some grasping hands and since both arms are symmetrical, meaning they are both the same on each side, there are some really nice touches with the brown washing to bring out the detail in the arms and make them look slightly different from each other
Waist and Legs
The loincloth is a nice mixture of sage green and Browns and a little bit of yellow undertone to it that makes it appear more salvaged than a piece of tailored clothing. The legs use the standard Masters of the Universe Revelation Buck, but, again the brown washing really brings out the thigh detail as well as the calf muscle. If you look at the legs from the back, there’s not as much brown washing as I thought but you do get some really nice finishes on the lower parts of the legs.
Orko is a simple figure but executed very nicely and I think he is the stand out in this two pack. Starting off with the hat, it’s an homage to his Trollan and look and feel that we first got exposed to in the Filmation He-man cartoon but the devil is in the details. The hat has a very nice textured look with some nice differentiating paint colors that really make the different parts of the hat stand out. It really looks like a wizard’s hat and there is a trinket of some sort at the top plus some brown wrapping around the middle of the Hat with a nice band close to Orcas head.
His ears peak through the hat and are droopy like Orko is sad or depressed, kind of like he always was in the Netflix Series, when was not causing mischief. The face sculpt is very plain but the way that they painted the eyes makes Orko very expressive and given that it’s just a a black ball with painted eyes, the feeling and expression really come through through the eyes.
Scarf and Robe
The scarf has a very nice textured purple look to it and it extends from the base of Orko’s neck all the way down to where his belly button might be. What I love about the scarf is that it also wraps around to the back and has a piece extending from the left side of the figure, giving it a lot of depth and dimension.
Orko’s arms are not very articulated as they just move up and down and side to side but they work really well with the figure and are in the right scale to the size of Orko
Weapons and Accessories
This is the first axe that we are seeing from the Masters of the Universe Masterverse line and I really have to say that this axe is fantastic. It has a very old and weathered look to it and the distressing and paint app really make that stand out. I think the shaft of the axe doesn’t really match the blades as I think there should have been some weathering on the actual shaft itself, but, overall the shape of the axe is very nice and the brown wrapping on the handle gives it a nice touch.
The spear is very nicely detailed and the tip looks like it was forged from stone. It has texturing and varying shades of gray with a nice black washing over it for a more realistic look. The twine wrap near the base of the spearhead adds a nice touch while the brown shaft looks like real wood.
The Power sword is the same Power sword that comes with the original He-Man from Wave 1 but with more of a lighter brown wrap to the handle
He-Man comes with a pair of grasping fists that are brown washed identically to the other parts of the figure, giving him different posing options where he could grasp his sword or his axe, which provides a lot of display ability options
The stand is fantastic and one of the best accessories that you’ll find in this pack. It’s not a standard clear stand that you would see normally packed with a Masters of the Universe figure and the way that it’s sculpted makes it look like the piece is organic and it’s actually a living breathing to make Orko appear that he is levitating so in that aspect, it’s great stand that adds a lot of displayability to Orko.
Masters of the Universe Classics Oo-Lar Comparison
Savage He-Man reminds me a lot of Oo-Lar from the Masters of the Universe Classics line. Although the figures look very different from each other, the spirit of the figures are still retained. Oo-Lar has a much darker skin tone than Savage He-Man and the spear that comes with Oo-Lar more of an leaf like appearance that looks like dark gray stone.
Michael: I’m rating the set a 6 out of 7 and I’m only docking some point because I think they should have used a unique buck for Savage He-Man given that he was so huge in the Netflix Revelation series. That said, I really think that Savage He-Man is one of the better He-Man figures for a couple reasons. First, I really love the use of the Faker head sculpt and I really think it gives this He-Man a much better look. The brown washing on the figure is outstanding and it actually gives He-Man a very different color than the standard He-Man that we got in Wave 1. Orko was a nice surprise and I loved his stand. Instead of providing a plian clear stand, it very detailed and it looks like it’s an organic piece the way that the stand was constructed. All in all, it’s a great set and you will not be disappointed.
