About The Toy Sorceress

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and immigrated to the United States when I was about a year old. I’ve lived in Southern California almost my whole life. Went to school at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to study architecture, and have been working in the Architectural Field for 20 years! I met my now husband back in 2005, and have been happily married for almost 15 years!

I love the outdoors, biking, hiking, kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding! Wish I could have a vacation home in the mountains, because I absolutely love nature and trees!

Having been a child of the 80’s, toys and pop culture played a very big role in my life. Saturday mornings with a big bowl of fruit loops and an episode of He Man, She-Ra, G.I Joe or Super Friends were always the best way to start my weekends!  I have fond memories of my sister and I playing with our toys, creating little adventures, and, even in some cases, building our own play sets! I remember creating a makeshift Hall of Justice and Bat Cave made out of cardboard as my family did not have a lot of money back then, LOL.  Now that I’m an architect, creating and building must always have been in my blood!

I used to save up my allowance and sneak off to Toys R us to buy my favorite toy every time I went to visit my Grandmother! Those were the days, and, well, times have changed, but my love for classic 80’s toys has not. And now that I am all grown up, I can afford to get those toys I never had as a kid or build back the collection I lost.

My collecting habit started when I was in junior college and my sister and I would frequent a comic book shop and collectible store near the school during our breaks between classes. I would find vintage Star Wars figures I had as a kid or wish I had and buy them for about $5 a piece, which to a college student back then was a lot of money. Well fast forward to when I transferred to the University at Cal Poly and eBay was just getting off the ground! All of a sudden I had access to all these toys I had in my childhood available to buy online!!! Boy was my mind blown!!! No more hunting at local comic and collectible shops!!! My first toy from eBay was a gift from my sister, whom I am very close to! It was a vintage LJN Thundercats, orange-haired Lion-o, which I still have to this day and deeply cherish!!!

My collection is a reflection of the fond childhood memories I hold so dear, and captures that feeling of excitement and wonder every time I got a new toy. I’m sure my story is the same as a lot of you out there, so I am happy to be part of the Toy Habits community!
