Slavi Sly Rax MAKINA Ramen Toy Prototype Reveal
Ramen Toy has pulled back the curtain on the prototype for Slavi, their take on Sly Rax from the MAKINA line, and seeing this one come together in real time is exactly the kind of journey that makes following independent toy companies so rewarding. For those who know their M.A.S.K. lore, Sly Rax is one of Mayhem’s most cunning operatives, the pilot behind VENOM’s Piranha vehicle with its car-to-submarine conversion, and the wearer of the Stiletto mask, which fires darts and underwater harpoons. He’s a character defined by deception and danger, a man to be avoided as the old file cards would say, and the fact that he’s getting the MAKINA treatment from Ramen Toy is a real treat for collectors who have been following this line as it grows. What I love about Ramen Toy is how they bring collectors along for every step of the process, from early concept work through prototyping and beyond, giving us a window into how these figures evolve before they ever hit production. This prototype reveal is still in its unpainted state, so we’re looking at raw sculpt work here, but even at this stage you can start to see the character taking shape and get a sense of where the final figure is headed. I can’t wait to see what the painted version looks like once Ramen Toy gets color and detail applied to this sculpt, because that’s usually where their work really clicks into place and the character fully emerges. Prototype Images
This unpainted prototype of Slavi shows a fully sculpted military-style uniform loaded with detail, from the pouched chest harness and utility belt down to the knee pads and strapped thigh holster. The head sculpt features a short cropped hairstyle, a mustache, and a visor across the eyes, with the Stiletto mask looking awesome!
The helmet rests beside the figure, its sculpted visor, chin strap, and rear detailing packed with sharp mechanical texture. Knee pads and boot wraps carry their own distinct sculpted patterns, keeping the level of surface detail consistent all the way down. The way this figure is posed really shows off the articulation.
A vintage Sly Rax image serves as great reference material, showing his green jacket, blue pants, chest harness with multiple pouches, and the Stiletto mask in full color.
