Ripper Bebop is the kind of crossover that makes so much sense I could easily imagine him running with the Dreadnoks. The tattered green vest, spiked armor, big Cobra logo, and oversized spreader give Bebop an even rougher, crazier look without burying the familiar tusks and nose ring. I especially like the full purple beard, which gives him a completely different personality while still looking unmistakably like Bebop, and the ponytail and red glasses push this version even further from his usual appearance. The muted grayish-beige skin is noticeably less yellow than the package artwork, but it fits the grimier Dreadnok gear well. His accessories are another big strength. The huge Claws of Life spreader has a working center jaw, and the machete can be stored across his back instead of being left loose when he is holding the larger weapon. Unfortunately, the articulation does not have enough range to get much variety out of that spreader beyond a few straightforward poses. Even with that frustration, Ripper Bebop is my favorite of the crossover figures I have handled so far because the two characters fit together so naturally. Overall Impressions

Ripper Bebop is one of those crossover ideas that makes more sense the longer I look at him. Bebop already has the attitude and personality to fit right in with the Dreadnoks, and mixing him with Ripper gives the designers plenty of room to get weird with him. The purple beard may be my favorite change because it looks completely ridiculous in exactly the right way. Add the torn vest, spikes, turtle-shell shoulder armor, Cobra logo, chains, and all the other little details, and this feels like much more than Bebop wearing a few pieces of G.I. Joe gear.

The accessories are a big reason I enjoy the figure as much as I do. I like having the machete and especially the storage for it on his back, but the Claws of life really pays homage to the Ripper side of the character. It is oversized, it has moving parts, and it is fun to mess around with. Unfortunately, that also exposes the figure’s biggest weakness. Bebop just does not have the range of movement needed to get everything I would like out of that weapon. You can find a pose that works, but there should be more possibilities with an accessory this much fun.

Even with the articulation limitations, Ripper Bebop is my favorite figure from the crossover that I’ve handled so far. What wins me over is how much personality he has. Nothing about the Ripper and Bebop combination feels like a stretch, and some of the stranger choices, especially that glorious purple beard, are exactly what make the figure so much fun. I would have loved better articulation, but once he’s on the shelf with that giant spreader in hand, I still really like what they did with him.

Packaging

The clear tray keeps Ripper Bebop centered, with the Claws of life and Machete displayed along the sides rather than hidden behind him. A mottled green insert fills the open spaces without competing with the figure.

The back panel doubles as a nine-character crossover checklist, with individual artwork and mash-up names for the full lineup. Ripper Bebop also gets a clip-and-save command file that recalls the vintage G.I. Joe file-card format.

The torn-paper layout wraps a large motorcycle illustration of Ripper Bebop across the front and side panels, backed by loud green and yellow paint splashes. An irregular window follows the ripped edge, while the black upper section keeps the two crossover logos easy to pick out.

The window wraps around the front corner, giving the boxed display more depth than a flat front panel. Oversized green Bebop lettering fills the narrow side without relying on another character illustration.

Figure Details

Ripper Bebop makes a strong first impression because the spiked shoulder pad, studded wrist cuff, and other Dreadnok touches feel like they belong on Bebop rather than being randomly added. The full purple beard is my favorite change, giving the familiar tusks, nose ring, and red glasses a different personality, while the ponytail replaces his usual mohawk.

The large red Cobra emblem across his stomach is the clearest G.I. Joe detail on the figure. A silver grenade and sheathed knife hang from the vest, adding more small gear without covering the logo. The black belt has sculpted loops and an oversized buckle with a rough silver oval detail, while the torn vest edges frame the stomach without hiding the waist sculpt.

From the side, the purple beard breaks into sharply pointed sections around the jaw, with the same carved strand texture repeated in the tied ponytail. Smaller rounded studs fill the gaps between the shoulder pad’s larger spikes.

The exposed shoulder joints and elbow hinges are easy to spot against the bare arms, while deep cuts at the hips and knees remain visible through the trouser sculpt. Oversized hands and chunky black boots match the heavy proportions of his upper body.

Around back, the black harness straps and small buckle cross the green vest, while sculpted pockets and a strapped thigh pouch add detail to the blue trousers.

Chunky silver chain links circle the wrist, with ridged hair sculpting continuing along the underside of the forearm. Shallow panel lines divide the olive-green shell of the Claws of life between the spikes.

There is some noticeable black paint slop around the elbow. The metallic silver wrist cuff is covered with chunky spikes of varying sizes, matching the heavily spiked armor used throughout Bebop’s design.

Ripper Bebop comes with two weapons: a long machete with a silver blade and black handle, and his much larger Claws of Life weapon. The Claws of Life features a bulky black housing, silver spreader jaws with molded mechanical details, and a long rear handle.

The Machete has a broad silver blade with a squared spine and upswept tip, finished with a simple black grip. Its oversized proportions suit Ripper Bebop’s bulky arms and chunky wrist gear.

The machete can also be sheathed across Bebop’s back using the built-in storage on his vest, which is a nice touch and keeps the weapon with the figure when he’s using the Claws of Life.

The best detail on the Claws of life is the narrow saw-toothed jaw tucked between the two outer prongs, giving the front end a nastier mechanical look.

The Claws of Life have an action feature that opens the jaws, but unfortunately, they won’t stay locked in the open position. That’s a bummer because you can’t pose Bebop with the Claws of Life opened up.
