Takara Tomy Shows Off New Transformers Figures and Color Samples at 64th All Japan Model Hobby Show

Takara Tomy brought a huge selection of Transformers figures to the 64th All Japan Model Hobby Show in Tokyo, giving us new looks at physical color samples and prototypes for releases it had previously revealed. That distinction matters because these are not new figure announcements. The news is that we can finally see so many of them together in physical form, with a much clearer look at the sculpts, head designs, paint applications, and overall presentation. Before we get into the display, a huge shoutout goes to @black_convoy on Instagram and TFW2005 for sharing the images from the show. We already covered Overgear OG-02 EX Grinder, Missing Link Headmaster Arcee, MPG-28 Style Gen Megatron, and Adamas Machina AMT-03 Star Saber, so this follow-up concentrates on everything else Takara Tomy had on hand. That includes Studio Series Wave 15 with TS-41 Jazz, TS-42 Cliffjumper, and TS-43 AOE Bumblebee, followed by Wave 16 with TS-44 Transformers One Soundwave, TS-45 Cyclonus, and TS-46 AOE Optimus Prime in Evasion Mode. Age of the Primes Wave 16 was represented by AOTP-53 Guzzle, AOTP-54 Cybershark, AOTP-55 Sky Guard, AOTP-56 Autobot Breakaway, AOTP-57 Alpha Bravo, and the AOTP-EX Powerlinx Red Alert & Mini-Con 8-Pack. The display also reached into Dramatic Capture Series Dinobot Island Part 2, New Legends NL-09 Black Amber Leo Prime & Bluebolt, Icons Megatron, Synergenex Evangelion Prime Unit-02, and Wild King W WKS-05 Optimus Link Prime & Animal Tribe 5-pack. There is a ridiculous amount here, and seeing all these different Transformers lines sharing one display makes this a much better chance to examine what Takara Tomy has coming than the earlier reveals alone gave us.

There is a lot packed into the Age of the Primes display, with Wave 16 bringing together AOTP-53 Guzzle, AOTP-54 Cybershark, AOTP-55 Sky Guard, AOTP-56 Autobot Breakaway, and AOTP-57 Alpha Bravo. Alongside them is the AOTP-EX Powerlinx Red Alert & Mini-Con 8-Pack, with Red Alert shown in his orange and white vehicle mode alongside all eight Mini-Cons.

Studio Series Waves 15 and 16 share the display, giving us a look at several of Takara Tomy’s upcoming releases in both robot and vehicle modes. Wave 15 includes TS-41 Jazz and TS-42 Cliffjumper, while Wave 16 brings TS-44 Transformers One Soundwave, TS-45 Cyclonus, and TS-46 AOE Optimus Prime in Evasion Mode. Seeing the physical color samples together gives us a much better look at everything from Jazz’s white and black finish and Cliffjumper’s deep red to Soundwave’s blue and gray colors, Cyclonus’ purple design, and the weathered-looking finish on Optimus Prime.

Icons Megatron has a sharp, angular take on his classic bucket-shaped helmet, with narrow red eyes and a mostly silver body broken up by that huge purple V across his chest. The oversized purple shoulder panels and blocky lower legs give him some ridiculous proportions, while a small Decepticon insignia sits at the center of his chest.

Evangelion Prime Unit-02 is shown in both robot and truck modes, with its bright red and orange colors immediately separating it from the more familiar Optimus Prime look. In robot mode, the two tall red pylons extending above the shoulders are especially prominent, while the head features the distinctive Unit-02-inspired design. The display also pairs it with the previously released Evangelion Unit-01 Optimus Prime, giving us a great look at the two Evangelion-inspired designs side by side.

Black Amber Leo Prime and Bluebolt are each shown in beast and robot modes. Leo Prime’s black body, silver mane armor, and metallic blue claws make a great combination, while Bluebolt carries the same bright blue, white, and yellow details from bird to robot mode.

Dramatic Capture Series Dinobot Island Part 2 shows Slag and Sludge in both robot and dinosaur modes, giving us a good look at the color samples’ metallic silver bodies, deep red armor, and gold heads and feet. Sludge’s long-necked dinosaur mode and Slag’s broad frill and silver horns make a great pairing.

Star Saber’s packaging goes big on the red, white, and blue robot mode, with the jet mode and a close-up of the mechanical head filling out the presentation. It is a busy front, but that oversized character art makes Star Saber look suitably massive.

We also have a look at Star Saber’s alt mode, along with confirmation that the release will include the smaller inner Saber robot. Here, Saber is displayed alongside the fully combined Star Saber, giving us a good sense of just how dramatic the size difference is between the two.

Here is the new transformable Star Saber in all his glory, based on Flame Toys’ non-transformable Kuro Kara Kuri design. The layered mechanical armor, stacked wings, and enormous blade make this a ridiculously elaborate take on Star Saber.

Another view of Star Saber gets closer to the red helmet, gold eyes, and silver faceplate, along with the translucent blue panels rising from his shoulders. I really like the crisp white Autobot insignias on the red shoulder armor, especially with all the small gold accents worked into the chest.

Another look at Star Saber from above shows how the long white fins fan out around the blue central assembly. I love the small silver and gold mechanical details packed between those much larger panels.

Transformers Wild King W is also part of Takara Tomy’s display, with WKS-05 Optimus Link Prime shown above the colorful Animal Tribe 5-pack. The five translucent animals are displayed in both their robot and animal modes, with each using a different color of translucent plastic. Seeing the entire group together gives us a much better look at just how colorful this set is going to be.

Takara Tomy’s official Transformers Twitter/X account has now revealed Megatron, and the booth display gives us both his robot and tank modes. The massive black cannon assembly carries between them, while the tank stretches the silver armor into a long, heavily tracked vehicle.

Arcee’s Transformers Missing Link C-16 color sample is on display at the 64th All Japan Model Hobby Show in both robot and car modes, alongside the small gray robot and a separate head sculpt. The pale pink face, bright blue eyes, and sharply defined white helmet look especially good here, and the same pink-and-white finish carries cleanly across the open-top car mode.
