Arcee and Sunstreaker G1 Transformers Missing Link Takara Tomy TF40 Expo Reveals

Arcee and Sunstreaker G1 Transformers Missing Link prototypes were revealed at the Takara Tomy TF40 Expo in Tokyo.

There was some big G1 Transformers news coming out of the Takara Tomy’s TF40 Expo for the Missing Link line. Arcee, who was never created as a Generation 1 Transformer, is finally getting her day in the sun for the Missing Link line. Speaking of sun, Sunstreaker will also be created for the Missing Link line. Also on display was the G1 minibot pair Bumblebee and Cliffjumper, which we’ve already seen official images for the pair but we also get to see their packaging, which was surprising. Huge thanks to Rob2023 and masterversal_toyhunter for the heads up!

Missing Link Sunstreaker

Sunstreaker looks classic and I can’t to see the final painted prototype so we can see the bright yellow G1 colors we grew up with. He was displayed in both robot and car modes and he looks amazing!

The Generation 1 Sunstreaker figure, released in 1984, was one of the original Autobots from the first wave of Transformers toys.

Sunstreaker was a unique and recognizable figure due to his sleek car mode and distinctive robot design. Sunstreaker transforms into a yellow Lamborghini Countach LP500S, a sports car with a sharp, angular, low-profile body. Sunstreaker transformed from the Lamborghini into a blocky robot that had several attachments that could fit on to his hands.

Missing Link Arcee

Arcee was never created as a G1 Transformer but she came close! As a note in the booth explained, “In 1986, a foam prototype was made, but unfortunately product development was halted and the product was never released. Based on the materials from that time, we are considering restoring it to the Missing Link series. The gray prototype exhibited alongside the original products this time also does not have a transformation mechanism. It is just a mock-up of the shape. We are currently working hard to implement a transformation mechanism reminiscent of that time and a movable opening joint that represents a missing link. Stay tuned for this unprecedented restoration project, which could be called Transformer archaeology.”

Arcee was on display in prototype form and she look amazing! It is nice to see her in scale with other G1 Transformers to get a sense of her size.

Missing Link C-04 Cliffjumper Box

We get a sneak peek at the packaging for Cliffjumper as he comes in a box, which is different than the carded figure that was released in the 1980’s. We are assuming Bumblebee will be getting the same treatment.

Like Bumblebee, Cliffjumper will feature an Autobot insignia on chest (no rubsign) and he will also come with his gun and a chromed cartoon-accurate cannon. The pre-order price is set at ¥5,940 ($38.44) and is scheduled for release by November/December 2024.

The added articulation brings these minibots to life and it’s so cool that he comes with a cartoon accurate cannon!

The added articulation you can see in the knee bend are arms is a welcome addition to the these minibots that did not have articulation when they were released in the 1980’s.

Staying faithful to the original g1 design, Cliffjumper features a black neck that is built into the bumper, closing the gap that the G1 version had.
