It’s been a little over a year since the amazing Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates Cat’s Lair was revealed, and now it is finally starting to show up in collector’s hands! We have not received our playsets yet, but huge thanks to Toy Habits Crew Member Clint Jorgenson for photographing his Cat’s Lair playset for us! Unboxing
Due to it’s shear size, you can see that the Cat’s Lair comes in 2 individual shipper boxes. Each box is labeled Box 1 of 2 and Box 2 of 2.

Here is an incredible comparison of the main Cat’s Lair box next two the Eternia Box, so you can see how incredibly large one of the boxes are.
The art work is incredible and we do a deep dive on the artwork further down the article below. A side shot comparison next to the Eternia Box shows that is is about double the thickness!

Look you can even fit a baseball cap on it’s head!
The main playset is huge and comes mostly assembled. You do have to connect the head and side mountain pieces. A look at the lab accessories in the box as well.
Here are the laser turrets and the ThunderCat’s council table. I still can’t unsee that those chairs look like Baskin Robbins spoons!
The Playset
Now we get to see the entire playset assembled and it looks glorious! The eyes light up and you can see how incredibly large it is when in the open unfolded position! Look at the size of those claws! The paint applications look stunning and are everything we were expecting and more!
Take a look at the size of the Cat’s Lair in comparison to the vintage LJN original! It just towers over it!
You can really get a sense of the scale by looking at Lion-O at the entry door.
Taking a look at figures posed on the front of the playset gives you a sense of the incredible scale of this playset! Thanks to Deimos Zane via Wewantmorethundercats on Instagram for sharing these photos!
Look at Mumm-Ra who is a huge figure in comparison to the front doors of the lair!
Here we get to see a close up of the figures posed om front and look how many y0u can stand om the front with room for more!
You can even stand figures perched at the top of each mountain peak as there are ledges for them to stand on.
The eyes of the Cat’s head light up and look spectacular!
These claws are huge and you can even fit a vintage ThunderTank parked inside!
The rear of the playset reveals an incredible world of play with multiple rooms , computer consoles and amazing spaces.
Here you can see Linx-O at the main control room, and Tygra working in his lab!
The council room and table look amazing with ThunderCats seated around it!
You can swap out the views on the video consoles with different inserts to show various blueprint readouts which is super cool!

Box Art Reveal
Super7 revealed the gorgeous artwork by Josh Newton for their ThunderCats Ultimates Cats’ Lair Playset and it looks spectacular! This playset is so large that it will come in two, count them, two shipping boxes! So you get twice the gorgeous artwork! Revealed at SDCC 2023, the Cat’s Lair was the most glorious thing to come out of Super7’s SDCC Booth ever! This Cats Lair playset had been teased for weeks and then we got to see the actual playset in all its glory. We are totally blown away at the amazing details, multiple play zones and world building diorama that the new Cat’s Lait playset brings us! Well now fast forward one year later, and the Cats’ Lair is almost ready to ship to collectors! I know I already have a special place laid out in my collection room for it! Update 09/20/2024: Hi Res Images
Huge thanks to Joshua Newton for posting these Hi-Res images of his stunning box art of the new Super7 Cats Lair playset! Here you can see all the glorious artwork on the packaging. You can see Tygra, Lion-O, Cheetara, and Wilykit outside the lair attacking the evil mutants. Panthro is manning a cannon under the right claw of the Cat’s paw. And then Mummra, Slythe and Jackalman can be seen battling the ThunderCats!

SDCC 2023 Reveal
Seeing the real thing, I have to tell you I am totally blown away of how absolutely epic this playset is! The texture on the torso of the Cat’s Lair is made to look like stucco, while the head and claws looks like they are made of a blue metal! The ThunderCats symbol on the chest and eyes are translucent and light up! The texture on the mountain backdrops look incredible as well! The claws lift up to reveal gun turrets!
The interior looks spectacular as well, with what looks like a backlight display screen on the huge screen in the control room, to a rotating weapons chamber this thing is incredible!

Official images are below, so let’s dive in and take a look at the details. The Cat’s Lair folds open with 2 mountain diorama back drops, lifting claws with what looks like turrets, and a front staircase. The ThunderCats chest symbol lights up and so do the eyes.
The back of the playset opens up to reveal multiple levels and many rooms of play. The top level has the control room with a center console and two side displays. The left side has Panthro’s workshop with a thundrilliam chamber. The right side unfolds to reveal the throne room! The center level has is the Foyer entrance with some panels on the walls on either side. Then there are stairs that lead to the Sword chamber that stores the Sword of Omen!
Here is a close up of the control room, and the screen has a light glow around it, so it looks like it’s backlit! On the lower level there is a weapon’s room with Panthro’s nunchucks, Tygra’s bolo whip, and Cheetara’s staff. In another image that space holds the Sword of Omen’s and you can see a dial above the door way, so it actually rotates to reveal both!
There are all sorts of houses and electronic panels with incredible detail in Panthro’s workshop. He also has a workbench with tools. The head of the Cat’s Lair is removeable as well, and lights up.
The Cat’s Lair comes with a ton accessories you see below to build out this whole incredible world! It’s amazing to see all of the pieces of the Cats Lair! The sides of the two cliffs give you the impression that the Cats lair was built into the side of of a huge mountain. It comes with 7 chairs and a table with the ThunderCats logo right in the center. The doors, stairs, hoses, Panthro’s workshop, and the computer consoles with large monitor really brings this playset to life!
Size
The dimensions given to us by Super7 is 36.7″ tall by 29.3″ wide, it’s a big boy!! We did our own measurements to see how deep the Cat’s Lair would be based on the dimensions we know and it is a whopping34″ deep, but if you open the back panels, it shrinks to 25.5″ deep!
