DC Partners with Mattel What does that Mean for the Future of MOTU

It’s been a crazy exciting day of news coming from Mattel, and not only did we get incredible Club Grayskull Masters of the Universe Membership news, but Mattel also announced their incredible partnership with Warner Bros Discovery Global Consumer Products for a multiyear licensing partnership on for DC characters and stories! So this sounds like a lot of corporate mumbo jumbo to a lot of you, but what can it mean for MOTU fans? Well, we turned to our friend, Mr. Home Arcade who has made an incredible collection of custom MOTU Origins style DC characters! So imagine all your favorite DC characters in the MOTU Origins style?! The possibilities are endless when DC Partners with Mattel!

Here we get an amazing look at the incredible customs from Mr. Home Arcade! Seeing all these classic DC characters in the MOTU Origins buck just gets me so excited for this new DC Mattel Partnership! Just to have a cool Superman figure in this style would be incredible!

According to Mattel’s Press Release :

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., February 27, 2025 – Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products today announced a global, multi-year licensing agreement utilizing DC’s entire library of beloved characters and legendary storytelling. Through the partnership, Mattel is awarded the global licensing rights to develop and market a full range of DC-themed action figures, playsets, accessories, role play products, and adult collectibles starting in the second half of 2026. The agreement spans all DC stories and characters including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Joker, Harley Quinn, and many more.  

Nick Karamanos, Senior Vice President of Entertainment Partnerships at Mattel, said: “It is an incredibly proud milestone to welcome DC back to Mattel. We look forward to leveraging our Mattel Playbook approach to brand management, product design, and innovation to bring DC’s popular characters to life across all channels. This new licensing agreement builds upon the existing relationship between Mattel and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, which spans more than 30 brands and franchises in Warner Bros. Discovery’s vast library including Harry Potter, FRIENDS, Seinfeld, Ted Lasso, and more across the preschool, plush, dolls, vehicles, games, and novelty toy categories.

Thanks again to Mr. Home Arcade for sending us photos of his DC Custom MOTU style figures! So let your imagination run wild! What about bad ass Superman and Green Lantern figures? These would be so amazing!

Could you imagine a 5.5 Batman line? And a Batmobile for him as well!

Mattel could do a cool multipack?! How cool would that be?

Then there could be a world of related characters like Nightwing, Robin, Mr. Freezer Bane etc,..

What about a 5.5 Hawkman or Wonder Woman? As you can see, the possibilities are endless with the world of DC characters and stories!

Crossover Poll Results

Back in September, we polled our Toy Habits viewers to see what the next property they wanted to see as a MOTU Crossover and overwhelmingly, DC won the poll by a whopping 65%!

Motu X DC Super Powers

This is not the first time a 5.5 version were thought of for a MOTU style figure. Funko did their DC Primal Age line! Funko took DC characters and really mashed them up with MOTU inspired outfits including loin cloths, tattered capes, spiked maces and shields, all in that famous 5.5″ squat scale!

They made Superman with a chest armor and spiked mace hand. Batman too had chest armor and a furry loin cloth plus sword and shield.

Flash and Lex Luthor look really great in this 5.5″ muscular body style as well.

Here you can see what a female buck looks like with Wonder Woman. You can imagine a Teela Wonder Woma Crossover. Also Green Lantern is Man at Arms inspired.

Finally we see Joker and Bizzaro in a MOTU mash up as well.
