Evil Horde MOTU Origins Hordak & Grizzlor 2-Pack Sketch Book Series
Mattel is digging deep into the archives and concepts as a new image has emerged showing MOTU Origins style figures! As reported by Die Welt der Meister – Magazin, “A first image of a Horde Invasion 2-pack has been listed at dealers. Looks like the Wild Horde will be significantly strengthened in 2025! By the way, the designs are from early concept drawings of Hordak and Grizzlor! Huge thanks to toyhuntershollow and lgthered for the heads up and we are looking forward to the release of these figures in 2025. We don’t know if these will be a mainline release or a Mattel Creations exclusive so stay tuned! UPDATE: Today (10/11/24) we got an official image and confirmation that these were coming to the MOTU Origins collection under a new subline called the Evil Horde 2 pack “Sketch Book Series”! This opens the door for turning so many other new original MOTU concepts into figures! So let’s take a look at the Evil Horde MOTU Origins 2-Pack Sketch Book Series!

Hordak Concept Art
It appears that the Hordak MOTU Origins Hordak figure is based on the concepts below. As the Battle Ram Blog states, “In this early concept (below), Hordak, while menacing, has the look of a post-apocalyptic thug, like a He-Man character crossed with something from Mad Max.”

This also goes along with Horde Trooper concepts as well and it would be amazing to see more concept figures come out for MOTU Origins!
Vast armies of Horde Troopers were also used during the Horde’s failed invasion of Eternia. The early Horde Trooper concepts look nothing like the vintage toy. As the Battle Ram Blog states, “As Mattel and Filmation worked very closely on the She-Ra series and its characters and concepts, the Horde Trooper concept is a no-brainer. An army for the main villain in the series, as well as a collect-your-own-army idea from toy marketing POV. In the script and concept, as well as the storyboard for Into Etheria, we get a look at an early design, which gives the characters a heavily-armored and barbaric look. It’s clear that these troopers (or Hordesmen) are organic beings. One is human with a scar on his face, another is reptilian, and the third is a hawk hordesman.”

Hordak Concept Art
It also appears that the MOTU Origins Grizzlor is figure is based on the concepts below. Vast armies of Horde Troopers were also used during the Horde’s failed invasion of Eternia. The early Horde Trooper concepts look nothing like the vintage toy. As the Battle Ram Blog states, “Ted Mayer came up with a couple of somewhat related hairy henchmen concepts, including a mammoth/boar-like character (who has an identical pose to Grizzlor’s concept art) and a quite primitive-looking bear-like creature who, like Grizzlor, had two prominent fangs:”
