After several months of chasing him down, we finally have been able to get the elusive Rulers of the Sun Duplico figure for this In Hand Review! I have to say, my FOMO was off the charts on this figure as I am sure of lot of you are as well. But according to our sources, we believe that he will have he will have a Walmart May 1st street date! So be patient, he is almost in reach! Duplico is a previously unproduced Rulers of the Sun figure and was slotted to come out in a later Rulers of the Sun wave in the 80’s but the figure never made it market. Duplcio, dubbed the Cody Rhodes look alike, just like the rest of the Ruler’s of the Sun figures, uses shared parts from the rest of the figures in the line, but with different skin tones, a new head sculpt and unique armor, which gives Duplcio a whole new look! Let’s take a deep dive into the details and check out this latest figure from the MOTU Origins Rulers of the Sun line!

Rulers of the Sun
Olmec Toys launched their flagship character Sun-Man in 1985 with the idea that that no matter what your skin-color, you can still be a superhero. With that, the Rulers of the Sun line was born by its founder Yla Eason. Mattel has now partnered with Olmec toys to bring us the entire line of Rulers of the Sun the Master of the Universe Origins line! Below you can see all the MOTU Origins Rulers of the Sun figures released thus far! In an homage to the original promotion photos, i have put together this image featuring all of the Origins Rulers of the Sun: Sun-Man, Duplico, Pig Head, Digitino, Space Sumo, Boltman, Hypno, and a second versions of Sun-Man with a more stylized head sculpt.

This is how Duplico appeared in the original vintage Rulers of the Sun line, but he was never produced. You can see him here in a promo image below. He was supposed to be part of a Series 2 release, which included Hypno, Kikto, and Zap-Man.

Packaging
Duplico looks spectacular packaged on the Rise of the Snake Men card back with the Rulers of the Sun faction sticker on the front of the blister bubble! This newest addition to the line brings in another human character that helps to round out the Rulers of the Sun gang, and they are now filling out nicely!
We can see the card art and cross sell of the rest of Wave, which includes Tung Lashor, Snake Armor Skeletor and Mini Comic Roboto. The strange thing is that Wave 12 consists of Hypno, Tung Lashor, Snake Armor Skeletor and Mini Comic Roboto, as you can see from the cross sell on the back of Hypno’s card. So was Duplico supposed to be in place of Hypno? What wave was Duplico supposed to be a part of? This is still a mystery to us.

Card back Art
The card back art is gorgeous as to be expected with the MOTU Origins line. Duplico’s card art shows an illustration of Duplico going up against Snake Armor Skeletor and Pig Head!

Figure Details
Duplico unlike many of the other Rulers of the Sun characters has a unique head sculpt, but shared torso, arms, wrist bracers, loin cloth and boots as the rest of the Rulers of the Sun Figures. He does come with however unique armor, and a very interesting paint scheme. He is in a really cool blue, red and white deco that compliments the figure nicely and his blonde hair gives him that really cool 80’s vibe! His look and design harkens back to the original Olmec toys figure that was never produced.

His head sculpt is super cool, with that rad 80’s vibe. Many say that he looks like Cody Rhodes, but I think he looks alike like Laser from the American Gladiators, but I digress, LOL! I love the way they have his hair combed in the sculpt, and his blonde eyebrows are a nice touch!

Duplico’s armor is unique to him, which is the one differentiator that makes him stand out among the rest of the Rulers of the Sun figures. It is a blue ribbed armor design that comes to a “V” at his neck and part of his chest. There are some cool pockets that are sculpted all the way around his armor. He also has a clip to hang his laser gun onto on the back of his armor, which is a very nice added detail. His laser gun is also tied to a string that is attached to this clip as well.

The rest of the lower body is shared with the other Rulers of the Sun figures, as you can see the diamond on his wrist gauntlet, and striped design on his boots. His wrist gauntlets, loin cloth and boots have a red, white and blue color scheme.

Weapons and Accessories
Duplcio comes with his blue lasaer rilfe that is attached by a string to the back of his armor. He also comes with 2 gripping hands so he can hold the laser rifle in either his right or left hands.

Mini Comic
Duplico includes his own unique mini comic entitled ” Legend of Duplico. We won’t spoil it for you, but if you want to read it, it is below.
