G.I. JOE CLASSIFIED SERIES #229, HARDBALL
Hardball keeps his baseball roots right on the surface with the blue cap and white jersey, but the olive backpack, grenade launcher, and six removable grenades strapped around his lower leg make for a wonderfully ridiculous contrast. I also like the stern head sculpt, which keeps the whole baseball-player-turned-soldier idea from feeling too playful.

Hardball’s baseball bat gets bold G.I. Joe lettering down the barrel, and I really like the sculpted knuckle padding on his fingerless gloves.

Hardball’s baseball bat has a green-wrapped grip that matches the olive belt and bulky thigh gear layered over his brown pants.

The back of Hardball’s jersey is printed “DUGGLEBY” above a big red 22, a great little baseball detail that gives the uniform a properly personalized look.

The white shooting-star emblem on Hardball’s cap works perfectly as a team logo, especially with the red 22 printed on the front of his jersey.

Hardball’s gray undershirt sleeves and blue side panels give the jersey a nicely layered look, while the heavily sculpted knees and folds keep the brown pants from feeling plain. Even the boots carry olive straps and extra gear around the ankles.

Hardball’s backpack is packed with sculpted field gear, including a rolled bundle across the top, cylindrical pieces along one side, and coiled tubing underneath.

The thin red bands around Hardball’s wrists are a nice match for the red lettering on his jersey, adding one more baseball-uniform detail beneath all that field gear.

G.I. JOE CLASSIFIED SERIES #230, SHIPWRECK & ALTHEA
Shipwreck’s bearded head sculpt looks great beneath the bulky optical headset, especially with those bright green lenses glowing over his eyes. The ribbed blue sweater also stands out nicely against the black harness, gloves, and heavily packed thigh gear.

Althea has some excellent feather sculpting, and I love how the parrot perches over Shipwreck’s shoulder while he carries the wide, sharply angled grappling hook. His knit cap and oversized gold belt buckle add even more personality.

I like that Shipwreck has two weapons, one short and blocky and the other sporting a long, ridged barrel.

Shipwreck’s gold belt buckle has a fantastic tiny compass graphic, complete with cardinal directions and a shark cutting through waves at the center.

The narrow white cuffs peeking out between Shipwreck’s blue sweater and black gloves are a great little sailor detail amid all the darker tactical gear.

Althea’s pale face patch and glossy black beak give her a wonderfully alert expression, while those bright red tail feathers pop against the otherwise gray plumage.

The optical headset is impressively busy, with layered housings, tiny circular fittings, a raised top mount, and a thick band wrapping around Shipwreck’s knit cap.

Putting Shipwreck atop a heap of broken timbers in a churning sea is a wonderfully literal touch, with the knife strapped to his thigh as one last piece of visible gear.

Shipwreck is shown with a knife sheath slung over his shoulder, while Althea is perched beside his head.

G.I. JOE CLASSIFIED SERIES #231, DAINA OF THE OCTOBER GUARD
Daina’s brown cap has a fantastic red-and-black bird insignia framed by gold wings, with thick white hair spilling out beneath it. Her weapon accessory is just as detailed, especially the long scope and layered mechanical sculpting across the body.

Daina’s head sculpt has a wonderfully sharp, focused expression, with dark eye paint and a small scar cutting through her right eyebrow. The olive harness, dog tags, fingerless gloves, camouflage pants, and scuffed knee pads give her plenty of layered field gear without burying the character underneath it.

Daina’s plain white tank top is a surprisingly simple choice amid the bulky backpack, waist pouches, and weapon accessories, and I really like the contrast.

Daina’s alternate hair piece replaces the cap with a short, swept blonde cut, and I really like the tousled strands across the crown and fringe.

Daina’s black combat boots have thick treaded soles and olive straps wrapped around the ankles, carrying the layered field gear all the way down to her feet.

Daina’s backpack has a tiny name patch across the flap, along with a black-and-white striped insignia and several weapon accessories strapped tightly around it.

Daina’s belt carries a neat row of metallic rounds, a small paint detail that stands out nicely against the olive pouches and brown waist gear.

Daina’s small black linework tattoo around her upper arm is a cool character detail, left fully visible by the sleeveless tank top.

Daina takes cover behind stacked sandbags and broken masonry as an explosion rips through the ruined city around her, making this one of the more dramatic dio scenes in the set.

The black wrap around Daina’s forearm has a rough, woven texture that adds another nice bit of detail beside her fingerless glove.

G.I. JOE CLASSIFIED SERIES #253, H.E.A.T. VIPER
H.E.A.T. Viper’s smooth yellow helmet and blank silver visor give him a wonderfully strange, faceless look. The huge rocket launcher and ribbed connective hose are a great match for all the bulky black gear strapped over the bright yellow suit.

H.E.A.T. Viper’s smaller gun has a compact, squared-off shape, while the heavy black thigh straps and tall boots break up the yellow suit nicely.

The three swept fins at the back of H.E.A.T. Viper’s helmet look awesome. Burning wreckage surrounding Cobra’s anti-tank specialist makes the whole scene suitably over the top.

H.E.A.T. Viper’s backpack is a great mass of vertical cylinders, narrow rods, ribbed housings, and tiny mechanical fittings, almost completely covering his back.

H.E.A.T. Viper’s alternate head exposes his eyes behind a purple mask, with an orange faceplate and three matching bars across the forehead giving him a much more expressive look than the blank silver visor.

H.E.A.T. Viper takes aim with his oversized bazooka, connected to his backpack by a flexible hose, as fires burn throughout the city behind him.

H.E.A.T. Viper’s black chest harness has a dense grid texture and a red Cobra insignia across the front, a small detail that still stands out amid the flames and flying embers.

H.E.A.T. Viper’s matching weapon accessories have chunky, squared profiles, and I like the heavy folds sculpted into the black gloves around them.

I love the oversized circular muzzle on H.E.A.T. Viper’s launcher, especially with the tiny red fittings and ribbed gray housing packed in behind it.

The black Cobra insignia on H.E.A.T. Viper’s upper arm looks awesome against the bright yellow suit.

G.I. JOE CLASSIFIED SERIES Flatline
The overall figure has a very post-apocalyptic scavenger vibe. The respirator-style mask, green hood and armor, black tactical gear, exposed arms, and all of the equipment hanging from his belt make Flatline look like someone who has pieced together whatever he needs to survive in a toxic wasteland. The huge chainsaw takes that look even further and gives him a wonderfully over-the-top edge.

Flatline’s hood combines a respirator-like face covering, round goggles and a single thin antenna, giving the head sculpt a wonderfully strange back-alley medic look. The oversized bone saw “Chin Chopper,” complete with a toothed chain and attached power cord, is every bit as ridiculous as that name deserves.

His medical textbook is a great little character joke, with the wonderfully questionable title *Surgery for the Ill-Informed* printed across its black-and-yellow cover.

Flatline’s other wonderfully odd tool is the defibrillator hammer “The Clinker,” with its chunky open head and wrapped handle. The teal chest pouch, orange belt-mounted device and heavy black gear make him look equipped for medical work of a very questionable kind.

His bare, heavily muscled arms are a great contrast to all that bulky medical gear, while the teal forearm guard and black fingerless gloves keep the rough Dreadnok look going.

The “Millville Veterinary Clinic” label is a great little touch, making Flatline’s dubious day job part of the figure itself. Even the belt buckle gets some personality with its sculpted skull and rows of silver studs.

Flatline’s backpack generator is a chunky assembly of twin red tanks, black bands and a central housing covered in molded seams and panel detail.

Flatline’s power cord curls around his shoulder amid thick molded tubing, giving the backpack an almost comically overbuilt tangle of equipment.

The red “NOX” patch on his chest adds another great little bit of Dreadnok personality.

Flatline even has a Gameboy that reads “GAME OVER” printed across the tiny screen at his waist, another wonderfully grim little joke buried in all that gear.

Flatline’s mismatched goggle lenses are a great bit of asymmetry, with one small eyepiece opposite a much larger pale lens. The crossing face straps make the whole apparatus look suitably cobbled together.

A silver wrist cuff with black rivets and a pair of small sculpted belt pouches add even more hardware to Flatline’s overloaded medical gear.

Flatline’s hood gets a bright red center panel, with pale silver paint picking out the filters and smaller mechanical details around it.

The gloves have some really nice sculpted creases across the knuckles and fingers, with ribbed wraps adding another layer around the wrists.

There’s something wonderfully unhinged about Flatline carrying Chin Chopper alongside his uzi as if either one belongs in a medical kit.
