Gray MOTU Origins Mattel Creations May 2026 Exclusive Preorder and Official Images
Well, that was short lived as we thought the May 6th drop would be vintage MOTU Origins figure but, alas, it is not. It wasn’t long ago that we were wondering if Gray would eventually get his moment in the Masters of the Universe Mattel Creations spotlight, and now we have our answer because the Club Grayskull forum just updated with a tease confirming that He-Ro’s alter ego is indeed the next exclusive drop, scheduled for May 6, 2026. This one has been on collectors’ radars ever since Gray appeared in a Mattel Creations promo video, which had us all asking the same question: when is this guy finally going to show up for real? Well, as John Cena so eloquently puts it, the time is now! The tease doesn’t give us a full look at the figure just yet, but the fact that we’ve gone from that initial promo video sighting to speculation swirling over the past few days to an actual confirmed reveal feels like one of those full circle moments that makes following these drops so rewarding in real time. Gray is a deep cut that carries a lot of weight for collectors who know the He-Ro lore, and seeing Mattel pull back the curtain on his alter ego as a standalone Mattel Creations exclusive tells me they’re really leaning into the corners of the mythology that longtime fans care about most. I’m fired up to see what the official images reveal when they arrive, because if the sculpt, accessories, and overall presentation match the significance of the character, this could be one of the most talked about MOTU Creations exclusives in a while. This figure is now live on Mattel Creations and will drop on May 6, 2026 at 9am PT!

Gray is wearing a brown leather-look tunic with stitched detailing along the neckline and dark brown wrist cuffs and boots, paired with a gold belt featuring studded accents. He’s holding a staff topped, and that grinning head sculpt with the auburn hair is a fun throwback.

A large translucent teal Spirit of Grayskull is attached to his back, sculpted as a ghostly skull surrounded by swirling, flame-like tendrils that wrap around his shoulders. He’s also carrying a spear with a serrated stone blade on a wooden shaft, a nice complement to the staff from the other shot.

The spear and Spirit of Grayskull equipped together, gives a good look at how the teal skull piece sits against the torso.

Up close, the head sculpt has a confident smirk with clean brow paint and brown eyes, and the auburn hair has a nice flow to the sculpt with individual strand definition. The Spirit of Grayskull has an organic, lumpy texture on those tendrils has a real tactile quality to them.

Gray holds the staff overhead and the Spirit of Grayskull wraps around his torso from behind, with the tendrils draping across his chest in a way that doesn’t restrict the arm articulation.

Gray holds the spear raised overhead, with the serrated blade catching the light and showing off the layered, textured sculpt on the stone tip. The brown boots have a wrapped leather look with sculpted straps just below the knee, a detail that holds up well in a full-body shot like this.

Gray is shown alongside his full accessory spread: the spear, the Spirit of Grayskull, and the winged staff. The spirit skull has a squid-like silhouette with those trailing tendrils extending outward, and it’s a genuinely creepy little companion piece.

The box art features a large green and teal Castle Grayskull jaw illustration that frames the figure window, set against a swirling pink and purple cosmic backdrop. It’s a great retro-inspired card design that leans into the Powers of Grayskull aesthetic.

The included minicomic, “Gray Zone,” features bold cover art of the character charging forward with his spear, surrounded by familiar faces. Nice touch including a dedicated comic with this release.

The back of the box features a painted battle scene with Gray at the center, thrusting his spear upward against a towering, shadowy creature in a crumbling ancient ruin. Sharela and what looks to be Eldor are fighting alongside him in the background, and the whole composition has a classic fantasy paperback quality to it. There are also characters in the scene and we are not sure who they are yet.

Gray Tease
A close-up reveals the sculpted lacing detail on Gray’s leather-like tunic, with the cross-stitched closures running down the chest capturing that medieval adventurer look. The second shot shows what appears to be a green skull-like accessory or shield element with deep recesses and a glossy finish, which lines up with details spotted in Mattel’s earlier promo video.

Gray Reveal in Promo Video
Gray, is the hidden identity of He-Ro in the Powers of Grayskull mythos, was sneakily placed to the far right among the Powers of Grayskull figures. There’s something about seeing a character teased alongside an entire lineup that just screams “impending arrival.”

You can watch the full video here:
The figure is shown mid motion with translucent piece, that reminds me of the Secrets of Grayskull Power Con 2021 exclusive, over the shoulder and around the upper arm, giving the impression that some kind of power is actively being channeled or released. The sculpt has short brown hair and confident facial expression, paired with the sleeveless brown tunic, wrist bracers, belt with circular buckle, and tall boots that keep the look rooted in classic Origins styling. He’s gripping a spear in one hand while the other arm is posed forward, and I like how the energy effect adds movement without blocking the sculpted details, making it feel like the figure is caught right in the middle of casting something.

The card art captures Eldor holding the open Book of Living Spells as energy flows outward toward Gray, who is shown mid transition as his look shifts into He-Ro with the brighter armor, red cape, and confident stance taking shape. I love how the transformation moment is frozen here, with Eldor’s robed figure anchoring the scene while Gray clearly shows that split second where knowledge and magic are actively changing him.
