Great Black Wizard MOTU Origins Figure Teased As Possible Snake Lair Unlock

You know we love reading into posts and messages from our favorite Masters of the Universe artists and illustrators and today is no different. Axel Gimenez posted and image of the Great Black Wizard, a concept he developed back in the MOTU Classics era, featung the character in front of the soon to be revealed Snake Lair and alongside of Fang-Or and Camo Khan. He posted two images comparing two different eras of evil and said on his Instagram page, “The eras are different and the forces of evil too, but the desire is always the same… POWER! Soon…” It’s the “Soon” part of his message that got us thinking at the Great Black Wizard would be an amazing unlock for the Snake Lair crowdfund! In addition to the concept image show here, Mega Customx created an amazing Great Black Wizard Masters of the Universe Origins concept so we can imagine what a MOTU Origins figure could look like if it was ever produced.

Great Black Wizard

Once again we are featuring the amazing work of Mega Customx with his Great Black Wizard Masters of the Universe Origins concept. If you recall, we featured his High Priest Pythonus concept, which was another one of Axel’s concepts. The concept came from Axel Gimenez, who is recognized for his dynamic art style and his ability to capture the iconic characters and settings of the MOTU universe. His illustrations have brought new life to the adventures of He-Man, Skeletor, and their allies and enemies. In the prolific days of the Masters of the Universe Classics era, Axel had come up with countless concepts for figures that were never produced as actual figures and the MOTU Origins lines is providing a canvas for his work to come alive in plastic. In fact, three out of the 6 figures in his latest image he posted to Instagram are either teased or being produced in the MOTU Origins line.

Great Black Wizard Concept

The Great Black Wizard was a skull-faced sorcerer and evil warlord from Eternia’s distant past. His magic gave Snake Face the power to turn victims into stone. He also created the dragon-human hybrid Draego-Man and took part in the Second and Third Ultimate Battlegrounds, fighting alongside the Horde, the Snake Men, Skeleteen, and the Unnamed One. Here is the concept that was meant for the Masters of the Universe Classics line.

Great Black Wizard Concept

Mega Customx knocked his version of the Black Wizard out of the park and brought him to life like no one else can! He captured the spirit of Axel’s concept in MOTU Origins scale with stunning detail!

The paint app is really interesting as it’s more of a speckled gray, which brings a lot of life to the figure. Although this is not a 1 to 1 translation of the MOTU Classics concept, this is what we are likely to see if the figure were to made for the Origins line but with far less detail. The chest armor also contains some sculpted on parts that look like they are bolted to this abdomen, which look awesome!

The facial detail in the skull is outstanding and the helmet wraps around his head and fits like a glove. The open spell casting hand is a great choice and adds so such to the figures personality. The fluffy cape should look familiar as it is “borrowed” from someone but I would not want to be on the receiving end of anything the Black Wizard wants to get his hands on.
