One of my absolute favorite vintage ThunderCats action figures has got to be the LJN Jaga figure, so when Super7 announced that there was going to be a Toy Variant Jaga figure, I was totally over the moon! Fast forward almost one year, and I finally have the Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates Jaga Toy Variant for an in hand review! The Toy variant Jaga is a stunning homage to his vintage counterpart, and looks amazing with the other Toy Variant ThunderCats and the rest of the gang!

Looking at this version of Jaga, just gives you instant nostalgia vibes! I really love this version of the figure and they did an incredible job with capturing that charm and character of the vintage LJN version.

Where to Buy

Packaging
Jaga comes packaged in the standard Super7 Ultimates packaging, without an outter sleeve or shipping box. The rear of the package features the same bio card info as the first version, but has an image reminiscent of the toy recolor.

You can also see the vintage figure standing next to the box and how closely the two resemble each other. Here you can see Jaga’s pack out with 3 sets of alternate hands, and alternate head with a fierce look, and his sword of Omens.

Figure Details
Looking at all four sides of this Jaga recolor, you can see what a beautiful homage to the vintage original this is! This version of Jaga features a light orange colored skin tone, a lime green body suit, removeable helmet and bright blue soft goods cape.

Here you can see how Jaga looks from each side

Here we get to see the two alternate heads that Jaga comes packed with. His helmet is removeable, just like the vintage action figure. His alternate head has a more fierce grin on his face and his hair is more pointed. Note that you can’t wear the helmet on top of the alternate head as the pointed ears and hair are in the way.

We get some close ups of Jaga. He has red wrist gauntlets and light blue boots. I also love his bright red ThunderCats logo adorning his cape clasp.

Some additional close up details, you can see the hilt of the Sword of Omens, and how well the tampo ThunderCats logo came out on it. They colored the hilt a reddish orange color to match the vintage figure.

Some additional action poses show you what nostalgic look of this figure is a great replacement for those who can’t afford the vintage figure that is getting more and more expensive on the aftermarket.

Comparisons
This review would not be complete without comparing to both the original vintage LJN figure and the Super7 Ultimate version 1 Jaga. Here we can see the vintage LJN figure on the left, and the new Super7 Toy Variant on the right. You can see that the new Super7 version has a slightly lighter skin tone. I would have liked Super7 to have matched the skin tone a little closer, although there were vintage variations in skin tone on the LJN figure so I can understand why Super7 went with a lighter skin tone. They also went with a slightly lighter lime green body suit that on the vintage figure. But I love the brighter blue cape on the new Super7 one, that was a great improvement. The helmet on the Super7 version has a brighter color as well, which I actually prefer. Overall this new Super7 Toy Variant is a stunning homage to it’s vintage original.

Here we get a look at the Super7 version 1 Jaga and the new Toy Variant Jaga. of course the version 1 is supposed to be more cartoon accurate and the Toy Variant is supposed to be an LJN recolor.
