Princess of Power Coming to Masters of the Universe in 2025
2025 marks the 40th anniversary of the debut of the She-Ra and the Princess of Power Filmation series. The spinoff debut September 9, 1985 to be exact, which is one of the most memorable dates in MOTU history for me because it my birthday. We’ve known since November 2023 that Princess of Power figures are slotted for the Masters of the Universe Universe Origins Cartoon Collection but it appears that the line will go much deeper than this. We’ve also suspected that Mattel will be going deep on the Princess of Power line for the 40th anniversary and Mattel confirmed, which their description for their San Diego Comic Con 2024 Masters of the Universe Celebrity Interviews and Product Reveal panel, that the spotlight will be on the Princess of Power in 2025.

She-Ra and Bow Coming to Cartoon Collection
An anonymous source reports that She-Ra and Bow figures have been tooled for the MOTU Origins, meaning that She-Ra and Bow are potentially coming to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection! Since we already have She-Ra in the Origins line, one can only deduce that these must be Cartoon Collection subline figures! Especially with Bow being a character that came directly from the Filmation animated Series, She-Ra Princess of Power. The MOTU Origins line has not had any real Princess of Power characters added to it since the Wave 3 She-Ra standard release and the 2020 She-Ra Power Con exclusive. This could perhaps be timed for 2024 when it’s the actual anniversary of She-Ra, and maybe an announcement at the end of the year, but right now this is speculation, so only time will tell.
She-Ra Princess of Power Filmation Cartoon Series

The She-Ra: Princess of Power cartoon was an animated television series that aired from 1985 to 1987. It was produced by Filmation and served as a spin-off and sister show to the popular He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series. The show follows the adventures of Adora, a young woman who was raised as a member of the Evil Horde, a tyrannical force led by the villainous Hordak. However, she later discovers that she is the long-lost twin sister of Prince Adam, also known as He-Man, and is destined to become the Princess of Power, She-Ra.
Adora, after realizing the injustice and cruelty of the Horde, rebels against Hordak and embraces her true identity as the empowered She-Ra. She is granted incredible strength, agility, and a magical sword that transforms her into She-Ra. With her newfound abilities and a group of loyal friends known as the Great Rebellion, She-Ra sets out on a mission to liberate the planet of Etheria from the Horde’s oppressive rule. Throughout the series, She-Ra and her allies engage in various adventures, battling Hordak, his minions, and other villains in their quest for freedom and justice. The show often focuses on empowering young viewers through its portrayal of a strong female protagonist, highlighting themes of courage, friendship, and determination.
The She-Ra: Princess of Power cartoon was lauded for its positive representation of female characters and its notable influence on the development of strong female superheroes in children’s animation. It also featured nuanced storytelling, memorable characters, and impressive animation for its time. In recent years, the She-Ra franchise has been revitalized with a new animated series on Netflix, titled She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which premiered in 2018. The new series reimagines the characters and storyline, introducing it to a new generation while still paying homage to the original beloved cartoon.

Filmation She-Ra
She-Ra is a fictional character who originated from the animated television series titled “She-Ra: Princess of Power,” which was produced by Filmation and aired from 1985 to 1986. The character was created as a counterpart and sister to He-Man, who originated from the companion series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” Both shows were based on Mattel’s toy line.
In the series, She-Ra is a heroic figure and the alter ego of Princess Adora, the twin sister of Prince Adam (He-Man). Adora was raised as a Force Captain in the evil Horde army on the planet of Etheria until she discovers the truth about her origins. She learns that she was kidnapped as a baby from her true family, the royal rulers of Eternia, and was brainwashed into serving the Horde.
After realizing the truth, Adora sides with the Great Rebellion, a group of rebels fighting against the Horde’s oppression. She gains the Sword of Protection, a magical weapon similar to He-Man’s Sword of Power. By raising the sword high and exclaiming, “For the Honor of Grayskull,” Adora transforms into She-Ra, the Princess of Power. She becomes the leader of the Great Rebellion and dedicates herself to freeing Etheria from the Horde’s control.

She-Ra possesses superhuman strength, agility, and speed, making her a formidable warrior. She also has the ability to communicate with animals, has an empathic link with her horse Swift Wind, and can summon a protective force field called the “She-Ra shield.” She is often seen riding Swift Wind into battle and fighting for justice alongside her allies.
The character of She-Ra gained popularity and became an icon of female empowerment in the 1980s. She was notable for being a strong, independent female hero in a predominantly male-dominated superhero genre. Her character also inspired various merchandise, including action figures, comics, and even a Netflix reboot series titled “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power” in 2018.

She-Ra was created by Mattel in 1985 as a counterpart to He-Man, and she was initially designed to appeal to a female demographic. And as such, she had to get her own line of Action Figures. She had 5 points of articulation like most of the action figures of the 1980’s at that time.
The She-Ra Vintage Action Figure featured a highly detailed sculpt and came with actual rooted hair which kids could style and comb. She-Ra stood at around 6 inches tall and came with various accessories, including her iconic sword, shield, and removable cape.
The character of She-Ra is known for her distinctive appearance, which is reflected in the action figure. She has long flowing blonde hair, a tiara, and a battle outfit consisting of a white dress with gold accents and red boots. The figure captures these features well, accurately representing the design of the character.

The She-Ra Vintage Action Figure was released in the mid-1980s and quickly became popular among fans of the Masters of the Universe franchise. While it was primarily marketed towards children, it has since gained a dedicated following among collectors. The figure is considered a classic representation of the character and is highly sought after by enthusiasts.
The value of the She-Ra Vintage Action Figure can vary depending on its condition, rarity, and packaging. Mint-condition figures still in their original packaging are usually valued higher than loose figures. Collectors often display these figures in their collections or keep them preserved as nostalgic pieces of pop culture history.

She-Ra has been released twice thus far in her Filmation Style look in action figure form both by Super7. The first was in the 2018, Super7 5.5″ vintage style action figure line. And the second was in the 7″ scale, Club Grayskull MOTU Classics line in 2019. Both figures are shown below.

Below is the 2018 Super7 She-Ra action figure that was part of the 5.5″ vintage style line. According to the She-Ra 2018 Vintage Super7 Masters of the Universe Figure – Grayskull Weapons Rack: “By the Power of Grayskull! Super7 is proud to present the MOTU Vintage Collection, the original Masters of the Universe action figures re-imagined to match the character designs from the animated cartoon! Each 5.5″ Vintage figure comes with accessories and most of them feature a spring-loaded mechanism: Turn the waist and the figure swings back with a punch! The packaging includes a custom character history card and has new and original art on the back of the card. The past meets the present with Super7’s MOTU Vintage Collection to create something new for the MOTU Universe!”
She-Ra was then released in Wave 3 for the MOTU Origins line, and then followed by the 2020 Power Con exclusive release that included rooted hair! It would be so wonderful to get a Cartoon Collection version of She-Ra!

Filmation Bow
Bow is renowned as the best archer in all of Etheria. Equipped with an array of trick arrows, he uses his skills of illusion and his fierce patriotism for Etheria to fight the Evil Horde. Bow is also Princess Adora’s right hand man and best friend. You will notice on the vintage PoP version, that Bow was missing his signature mustache, later corrected by including 2 different heads in the MOTU Classics version.
Bow is a fictional character from the She-Ra: Princess of Power cartoon series produced by Filmation in the 1980s. He is one of the main characters and a member of the Great Rebellion, a group fighting against the tyrannical rule of Hordak and his Evil Horde.
Bow is depicted as a master archer and is considered the skilled marksman of the Great Rebellion. He is known for his accuracy and can hit targets with great precision from long distances. He wields a magical bow, which is powered by the Moonstone embedded in its center. This magical weapon allows him to shoot energy arrows, helping him in battles against enemies.
In terms of appearance, Bow has a muscular build, often seen wearing a turquoise and purple outfit with feather-like shoulder pads and a distinctive hat. He is depicted as a blonde-haired character with a playful and charismatic demeanor, often cracking jokes and lightening the mood during serious situations.

Bow is characterized as friendly, compassionate, and fiercely loyal to his comrades. He is particularly close to She-Ra, the princess-turned-rebel leader, and they share a strong bond throughout the series. Bow is often portrayed as the love interest of She-Ra, hinting at a romantic relationship between the two characters.
Aside from his archery skills, Bow is known to be resourceful and inventive. He often comes up with clever strategies, using gadgets or his quick thinking to aid the Rebellion in their fight against the Evil Horde. He is an essential member of the team due to his skills, charm, and unwavering commitment to the cause.
Overall, Bow is a beloved character in the She-Ra: Princess of Power cartoon series. With his archery prowess, sense of humor, and dedication to the cause, he plays a vital role in the adventures of She-Ra and the Great Rebellion, contributing to the show’s popularity among audiences.
The Princess of Power Bow vintage action figure was a popular figure from the 1980s. The figure was based on the character Bow from the animated television series “She-Ra: Princess of Power.”, except he did not have his signature mustache. He had 5 points of articulation like most of the action figures of the 1980’s at that time.
The vintage action figure of Bow stands at approximately 5.5 inches tall and is made of plastic. He is dressed in bright and colorful attire, featuring a red jacket with gold accents, matching pants, and white boots. Bow’s most recognizable feature is his distinctive helmet, which has heart-shaped cutouts on either side of his face.
The action figure comes with various accessories, including a crossbow, three arrows, a quiver, and a sword. The crossbow can be placed in Bow’s hand, and the arrows can be stored in the quiver on his back. The sword can be attached to his waist for easy access during battles.
The Princess of Power Bow vintage action figure is highly sought after by collectors and fans of the “She-Ra” series. Its vibrant design, nostalgic value, and connection to the popular animated show make it a prized item in the world of vintage toy collecting.
Below you can see Bow and Arrow from the vintage 1980’s Mattel Toy line.

We also have the second time that Bow was made into an action figure as part of the MOTU Classics line in 2011.

Below we have an incredible custom MOTU Origins Bow Action figure that was done by Hunter Knight Customs, so we can get an idea of what a Filmation style Cartoon Collection Bow might look like!
Card Art Teases
Appearing on the 2020 Power Con exclusive She-Ra card art, you can see She-Ra and Bow prominently featured in standing directly in front of the Crystal Castle! Along with She-Ra and Bow, we also had Frosta, Glimmer, Lookee and Kowl! Hopefully there might be hints of more Pop characters coming to the line!

Mantenna and Hordak Coming To Cartoon Collection
Mantenna, evil spy with the pop out eyes, and Hordak, ruthless leader of the Evil Horde, are both coming to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection! Mantenna, the nervous, stuttering henchmen from the Evil Horde, appeared in 39 episodes of the She-Ra Princess of Power Filmation cartoon. Hordak, appeared in a whomping 72 She-Ra Princess of Power Filmation episodes, and 2 movie TV Specials! According to an anonymous source, Mantenna and Hordak will be coming to the Cartoon Collection later in 2024. We will also take a look at the character’s history both on the Cartoon Series and in toy form. So let’s take a look at Mantenna and Hordak who are coming to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection, what they might look like.
Mantenna -Filmation style
When the Horde appear in the She-Ra: Princess of Power series, Mantenna retains his “spy sight” from the minicomics, and can fire energy beams of different varieties from his eyes, such as stun beams, gravity distortion beams, and freeze rays. Mantenna is a nervous stuttering imbecile and is mainly used for comic relief, with a running gag that Hordak frequently sends him down a trap door in front of his throne for any number of reasons.
Mantenna in She-Ra Princess of Power Cartoon
According to: Mantenna | Wiki Grayskull | Fandom
Mantenna was a member of Force Captain Adora’s, and later, Catra’s, force squad. In his youth, he attended the Horde academy on Horde World and Hordak was implied that he, like other members of the force squad, was a product of Horde science.
Mantenna had the ability to fire energy beams of different varieties from his eyes, such as stun beams, gravity distortion beams, and freeze rays. Mantenna often acted very nervous, stuttering and stumbling over his words. He could also see over large distances and act as a spy for Hordak.
Despite his useful abilities, Mantenna’s bumbling often earned him Hordak’s ire, with the Horde leader frequently amusing himself by sending Mantenna down the trap door in his throne room. On one occasion, however, Mantenna did manage to have his revenge and sent Hordak himself down the trap door.

Hordak- Filmation
Hordak was the ruthless leader of the Evil Horde and appeared in 72 episodes of the She-Ra, Princess of Power FIlmation cartoon series. He appeared with blue skin and did not resemble his vintage action figure, which had grey skin.
According to Hordak | Wiki Grayskull | Fandom:
Hordak was a Commander in the Horde Empire and was the brother of Horde Prime, the supreme ruler of the Horde. Hordak was trained in the art of sorcery by the Etherian magician, Noah, though as time went on, he would grow to detest magic and embrace technology and science, believing it far superior. Hordak’s preferred method of fighting was to transform his body parts into various weapons, usually favouring a cannon arm.

Hordak Action Figure
Hordak was released in the Mattel Masters of the Universe line in several versions. He first came out in 1985. He had grey skin with black chest armor, and did not resemble the blue skinned version that appeared in the She-Ra Princess of Power Filmation cartoon series.

Mattel then later released a Hurrican Hordak version in 1985. And then followed by a “Buzz Saw” version in 1987.

In the Early 2000’s, Hordak was released in the 200x line, after the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Mike Young Productions cartoon series. He was much more stylized than what we were used to. Again, he was a grey skinned creature, rather than the Filmation blue.

The MOTU Classics versions then followed. First in 2009, he was released in a much more detailed grey version. But in 2017, Super7 released him as part of the Club Grayskull line and he finally resembled his blue skinned Filmation look!

Then in 2018, Super7 released a blue Filmation Hordak in the 5.5″ vintage style line. This one is the closet to what we may get in the cartoon collection line.

Finally we got several versions of Hordak in the MOTU Origins line and the Masterverse line! Hordak was released in his blue color as part of the 2021 Power Con Exclusive 4 pack. Then Masterverse released Hordak under the Princess of Power line.

Princess of Power Wishlist
Fresh off the news that She-Ra & Bow are coming to MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection in 2024, we wanted to dream a little and share our MOTU Origins Princess of Power Cartoon Collection Wish Lish! The MOTU Origins line has not had any real Princess of Power characters added to it since the Wave 3 She-Ra standard release and the 2020 She-Ra Power Con exclusive. We believe that this could be perhaps timed for 2024 when it’s the 40th anniversary of the She-Ra Princess of Power cartoon series. Thanks to the incredibly talented Eternal Customs on Facebook, we can see what some of our MOTU Origins Princess of Power Cartoon Collection Wish Lish might look like!
Princess of Power Cartoon Collection Wish List
Let’s start out with the two trusty steeds and besties for the heroic warriors we just announced were rumored to be coming to the Cartoon Collection, that’s right it’s Arrow, Bow’s horse and Swift Wind, She-Ra’s horse!
Swift Wind:
Swift Wind or “Swifty” as She-Ra affectionately referred to him, was the other big star of the She-Ra Princess of Power Filmation cartoon! My favorite character as a kid and now, Swifty was always there to assist She-Ra in fighting the Evil Horde and came to the rescue whenever she needed him. I loved the sound of his voice too; it just fit him so well! The animators chose to color Swifty in a beautiful color scheme, by coloring him as a white horse, his multicolored wings and pink and blue mask really stood out and gave him that signature look that everyone knows and loves!

The Mattel Princess of Power version of Swift Wind, released in 1985, also did not resemble the Swift Wind from Filmation, but rather was a shimmery pink colored horse with gold, white and pink wings, a gold mask and saddle with pink rooted hair. Just like Arrow, allowing kids to comb and style Swift Wind’s hair, which was a pivotal part of the play pattern for the Princess of Power toy line.

Shown below is the vintage Mattel Princess of Power Swift Wind and She-Ra, from the personal collection of the none other than the Toy Sorceress! Love my horsie!!! Swifty and She-Ra sit proudly on the shelf over my desk where I am currently authoring this article!

Swiftwind was also released for the MOTU Classic line as seen below. This version closely resembled the Filmation version of Swift Wind and we hope we can get one for the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection!

Appearing on the 2020 Power Con exclusive She-Ra card art, She-Ra can be seen riding her trusted companion Swift Wind in an amazing piece of artwork by the great Axel Gimenez in his shimmering pink Mattel version! Again, to me this is a tease that we might someday get a Pop version of Swift Wind.

She-Ra and Shift Wind are also illustrated on the back of the card back with the rest of the Rebellion in front of the Crystal Castle.

Arrow:
Steed of the Great Rebellion and Bow’s trusted friend, Arrow didn’t have a huge role on the She-Ra Princess of Power Filmation cartoon like Swift Wind did, but he was still an important character to the show.

Released in 1985, and coined “Arrow the true-blue horse that flies”, the Mattel version of Arrow, did not resemble the Filmation version at all, which was actually a typical occurrence with this line of toys. Colored in light blue shimmery plastic, Mattel’s version of Arrow was a wing cladded horse similar to Swift Wind that included a golden saddle and rooted blue hair for kids to style and comb.

Arrow was also released for the MOTU Classic line as seen below.

Loo-kee & Kowl
Let’s start out with these cute little guys that just made the Princess of Power cartoon extra special! Loo-kee & Kowl were the comic relief and little buddies every Heroic warrior needed. It was always fun find Loo-kee! during each episode of the Filmation She-Ra Princess of Power cartoon, is let’s
Loo-Kee, son of Pa-Pee, was a member of the Kon-Seals, a race of creatures that used their unique hiding abilities in order to aid the forces of good. Not only was Loo-Kee an expert when it came to hiding, he also had the ability to teleport short distances.

and Kowl Vintage Figures
These figures have already been teased on previous Origins releases card backs, so let’s take a look where we’ve seen them. We first saw Loo-Kee (or did we ?) in the card art for the standard release of She-Ra and if you didn’t see him the fist time, he was right in front of your face so to speak as he was hiding in the trees.

The art for the Power Con 2020 exclusive She-Ra provided some great teases for some PoP characters, including Bow, Glimmer, Kowl, and Loo-Kee, who was much easier to find.

Kowl is depicted as a small flying creature capable of speaking. His wings are not unlike large ears, and he has the overall appearance of something akin to an owl mixed with a koala, hence his name. It is mentioned that there aren’t many members of his species left, and most of his relatives are dead.

Glimmer
Next on our PoP wish list is Glimmer. Glimmer is the Princess of Bright Moon, the very beautiful daughter of Queen Angella and King Micah. She was the original leader of the Great Rebellion of Etheria until Adora took over and helped to establish much of its support structure.

Filmation cartoon
Here we can see a modern version of the Glimmer from the 2014 MOTU Classics line.

Thanks to the incredibly talented Eternal Customs on Facebook, we can see what a Cartoon Collection Glimmer might look like!

Glimmer also appeared on the art for the Power Con 2020 exclusive She-Ra figure.

Frosta
Frosta has already been released for the Mastervers line, but we have not gottenm her in the Origins line. So it would be great to get her in the Cartoon Collection. Frosta was Queen of Castle Chill in the Kingdom of Snows on Etheria. She was a powerful ice sorceress and brought her formidable powers to bear as a member of the Great Rebellion. She was able to control ice and snow at will; this allowed her to freeze any object or enemy, as well as to use sheets of ice as a mode of transportation. She found herself irresistibly drawn to He-Man on at least one occasion, although he was put off somewhat by her aggressive advances.

Here are the Masterverse and MOTU Classics versions of Frosta.

Thanks again to the talented Eternal Customs on Facebook, we can see what a Cartoon Collection Frosta might look like!

Appearing on the 2020 Power Con exclusive She-Ra card art, can you can see Frosta in the background, standing directly in front of the Crystal Castle.

The Evil Horde

Eternal Customs on Facebook did a spectacular job on creating 3D renderings of what MOTU Origins Cartoon inspired figures would look like.

We saw several figures teased on Hordak’s card back whiich a few have already been released in the Origins line. But there are some figures we have yet to see and it would be cool if either of them were released in their Cartoon versions!

MOTU Classic Club Grayskull Mantenna. A Cartoon Collection version of him might look like this.

Thanks again to the talented Eternal Customs on Facebook, we can see what a Cartoon Collection Mantenna might look like!

Leech -Filmation style
Leech appears in animated form in She-Ra: Princess of Power, in which the Horde are the main villains. He is regularly seen among the main Horde members, but rarely showcases his power suction ability and receives generally little character development and no episodes feature him in a spotlight role.

Thanks again to the talented Eternal Customs on Facebook, we can see what a Cartoon Collection Leech might look like!

Modulok
Shortly after his figure was released, Modulok appears on the toy line’s accompanying cartoon series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by Filmation. Although the Evil Horde are used as the main villains in the spin-off series She-Ra, rather than He-Man, Modulok is given the unique honor of making his debut on He-Man instead. Halfway through the first season of Filmation’s spin-off series, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Modulok is incorporated into the She-Ra series, the only character from either show to be transferred permanently from one to the other. This occurs in the episode “Gateway to Trouble” in which Modulok builds a device for Skeletor which can open a portal to Etheria to transport his whole army to the planet.

Thanks again to the talented Eternal Customs on Facebook, we can see what a Cartoon Collection Modulok might look like!

Grizzlor -Filmation style
Grizzlor was initially portrayed as a competent and threatening member of the Horde, overseeing Beast Island. Like many of Hordak’s other warriors, he was said to be a product of Horde science, implying he had once been a normal creature or possibly human. He was depicted as rather muscular, with hair coverings similar to his action figure. Over time, the Filmation animated series increasingly depicted Grizzlor as a bumbling henchman, often bearing the brunt of Hordak’s wrath. Occasionally, he worked as part of Catra’s Force Squad, though he did not like taking orders from her. He displayed a strong dislike of Mantenna, and the pair would often bicker.

We know what this figure might look like as he was already released for the MOTU Classics Club Grayskull line. He was also recently released for the Masterverse line and he was in the Pop cartoon style.

action figure.

The amazing Eternal Customs on Facebook, also mocked up what a Cartoon Collection Grizzlor might look like!

Catra
Catra is a power hungry member of the Evil Horde and is one of Hordak’s minions. Although initially specked out to be She Ra’s main nemesis, the Filmation crew decided to go in a different direction. It’s a mystery where her loyalties lay as in one episode she joins Skeltor to annihilate Hordak to become the Queen of the Magicats. She doesn’t really get along well with others as she often has her own wishes to overthrow Hordak and she does not play nicely with her other female characters in the cartoon, namely Scorpia.

Catra has been released for both the MOTU Classics line and Masterverse lines.

The amazing Eternal Customs on Facebook, also mocked up what a Cartoon Collection Grizzlor might look like!

The Power Con 2020 She-Ra card art is the gift that keeps on giving, bringing us more Horde goodness with Catra taking center stage!
