Spotlight: She-Ra MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection 40th Anniversary Figure

Since getting wind that She-Ra was coming to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection back in November 2023 and the big reveal at SDCC 2024 commemorating the 40th Anniversary of She-Ra, we’ve been waiting patiently for the preorders. First up with SDCC 2024 Cartoon Collection preorders and dropping the official images on the white background is one of our favorite online retailers in the UK, The Whole Shebang! We’ve known for a while that the official images on the white backgrounds are most likely test shots as they feature variations in head sculpts and paint apps. Given we saw the 40th Anniversary MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection She-Ra in person at SDCC 2024, let’s take a look at the both the official image test shot and the in-person images we have for the Princess of Power.

She-Ra Cartoon Collection Official Image

According to her official description, “She’s dressed in her classic battle-wear and comes armed with shield and sword accessories inspired by the episode “The Treasure of the First Ones.” Given the She-Ra appeared like this in all of her episodes, we are unsure why the “The Treasure of the First Ones, ” is called out but maybe it was to do with the mini comic she might be packed with.

SDCC 2024 vs. Test Shot / Render

Looking at the comparison of the SDCC 2024 in-person protoype and the official image on the white background, I am beginning to think these are digital renders but I am not 100% sure. There are several notable differences between the in-person version of the She-Ra we saw at SDCC 2024 and the test shot / render. First, the test shot has a slimmer, narrower face, a less detailed tiara, and thicker cape collar. The decorations on her dress also appear to be slimmer with more of an oblong jewel. The other notable difference is in the matte, mustard golden yellow paint app so hopefully we will be seeing the She-Ra we saw in-person at SDCC 2024 as she looks a million times better!

She-Ra SDCC 2024 Reveal

It was amazing to see She-Ra revealed in Cartoon Collection form as she looks quite stunning! She features her iconic tiara, her red cape, and her classic white outfit with gold designs and the blue jewel in the center of her stomach. He face sculpt is captured perfectly has she has a stern and determined look on her face, as if the freedom of Etheria all depends on her!

She-Ra is a fictional character who originated from the animated television series titled “She-Ra: Princess of Power,” which was produced by Filmation and aired from 1985 to 1986. The character was created as a counterpart and sister to He-Man, who originated from the companion series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” Both shows were based on Mattel’s toy line.

In the series, She-Ra is a heroic figure and the alter ego of Princess Adora, the twin sister of Prince Adam (He-Man). Adora was raised as a Force Captain in the evil Horde army on the planet of Etheria until she discovers the truth about her origins. She learns that she was kidnapped as a baby from her true family, the royal rulers of Eternia, and was brainwashed into serving the Horde.

After realizing the truth, Adora sides with the Great Rebellion, a group of rebels fighting against the Horde’s oppression. She gains the Sword of Protection, a magical weapon similar to He-Man’s Sword of Power. By raising the sword high and exclaiming, “For the Honor of Grayskull,” Adora transforms into She-Ra, the Princess of Power. She becomes the leader of the Great Rebellion and dedicates herself to freeing Etheria from the Horde’s control.
