Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates at Design Con

During this year’s DesignerCon 2022, Super7 had on display their latest line of ThunderCats Ultimates figures! And a special big thanks to We Want More ThunderCats on Instagram, for posting images of all the new kitties! Now we get to take a look at the latest protypes of Waves 6 & 7 plus some other upcoming ThunderCats figures, so let’s dive right in!
ThunderCats LJN Inspired Wave 6
Below we can see the prototype figures of the new Wave 6 LJN Vintage inspired figures, and I can’t tell you how excited I am for these!! Lion-O looks incredible with his vintage inspired orange and blues! He can hold the sword of Thundera way up high and summon his fellow ThunderCats! Mumm-ra looks spectacular and towers over the rest of the figures as well! He has his vintage inspired LJN colors as well with that teal-colored skin tone, and his red headdress, I really love how he is coming out! Monkian and Cheetara both look amazing as well! We will dive into each of these figures separately down below.
Here we have the prototypes of Ghost Jaga a Super7 exclusive, and and Invisible Tygra, which is a BBTS Exclusive. Invisible Tygra reminds me of how Mattel did their art of engineering Skeletor, and you can kind of see the inner workings of the figure in a crystal-clear plastic. He is actually quite impressive! Similarly, Ghost Jaga is made of a more translucent blue plastic. We will cover Ghost Jaga in more detail below.

Finally we got to see some initial sculpts of the Wave 7 figures, which look to be turning out spectacular. I can’t wait to see some painted models as well. There is Snarf, Rataro. and Mongor looking very detailed! We did not get to see Willa on display, as she was missing from the group. They also had on display Mandora on here Electro Charger. Super7 had her also on display at this year’s San Diego Comic Con and most recently New York Comic Con. She she is set to release Spring 2023!
Wave 6 LJN Vintage Inspired ThunderCats
Super7 has been killin’ it for the past 2 years on their ThunderCats Ultimate figures! I personally own several of them myself, but I am a child of the 80’s like many of you adult collector’s out there, and like many of you, I grew up playing with the original LJN ThunderCats action figures. So, when Super7 first came out with Ultimates, a part of me always wanted them to be more LJN like! The first Wave was a remake of the Mattel molds they had acquired when they got the license, and as cool as the first Lion-O was, he was not my LJN vintage style Lion-O I loved as a kid. Super7 has done an amazing job recreating the TMNT line in that Playmates “vintage” Ultimates style, and I always wished they would do the same for the ThunderCats line. They came very close with Panthro and Tygra, as those look very close to their vintage counterparts. Well, now with this new Wave 6, I finally get my wish! These are not simply re-paints of the existing Super7 Ultimates figures, but totally brand-new body and head sculpts! These new Wave 6 figures totally pulls at those nostalgia strings big time!!! Let’s take a look at who’s included in this new LJN vintage inspired Wave!

Wave 6: Lion-o, Cheetara, Monkian & Mummra The Ever Living at:
Lion-O
What can I say, Lion-O looks freaking spectacular, I am blown away and speechless!! It a beautiful homage to the vintage LJN figure, Super7 has hit it out of the park on this one!! It looks like Super7 took my vintage LJN figure and super articulated him! And yes, that is a photo of my vintage red-haired Lion-O and Snarf, from the Toy Sorceress’ personal collection! The new Wave 6 Lion-O features pin-less joints and a whole new sculpt! He comes in the vintage inspired orange skin tone, red hair, with light blue outfit and bright blue boots! He even has the reddish orange Thundercats logo on his blue belt, just like the vintage figure. Lion-O’s stance also resembles that of the vintage figure, as you can see the comparison of all 3 versions below. The new Lion-O totally resembles the stance and build of the vintage figure. He has the same light orange outlines around his eyes and mouth, just the like vintage figure. Lion-o comes with an alternate head, 2 sets of alternate hands and his vintage-colored orange claw and sword of Thundera. I have got to say I am head over heels in love with this new figure and can’t wait until next spring to have him in hand!!!

Cheetara
The new Cheetara figure looks just like the vintage LJN figure, just upgraded! With totally new body and head sculpts, from the previous Cheetara that is soon shipping to collectors, this version of Cheetara is a tribute to her vintage counterpart. Complete with the same bright red body suit and bright orange leggings, this Cheetara truly resembles the vintage figure. Cheetara too gets an all-new stance, that maintains that vintage LJN charm. Looking more innocent than the Wave 2 fiercer looking Cheetara, this version is truly a tribute to the vintage action figure! She comes with an alternate head, her classic yellow bow staff and 3 extra pairs of alternate hands. I don’t currently own the vintage Cheetara, as she can go for a lot of money on the aftermarket, so Iam looking forward to adding this version to my collection!

Mumm-Ra The Ever Living
Mumm-Ra too is a direct homage to his vintage LJN counterpart! In again a totally new head and body sculpt, this Mumm-Ra totally resembles the vintage figure from his red headdress to his teal-colored skin, to his red skirt and finally his yellow-colored shin guards. Mumm-Ra includes an alternate head, 2 pairs of alternate hands and a knife and sword that look just like the vintage LJN accessories! This is not a re-paint of the Wave 2 Mumm-Ra but an all new sculpt from head to toe! This is super exciting to see the vintage LJN Mumm-Ra made into a modern Ultimates figure! This too is a figure I don’t currently have in my collection, so looking forward to adding him!

Monkian
The last figure we have in this wave is Monkian. Monkian was originally included in Wave 4 of the Thundercats Ultimates figures. As a matter of fact, my Monkian figure just arrived in the mail today LOL! To my surprise, we are getting an all-new design! This Monkian has a less pronounced fierceness to his face than that of the wave 4 figure and has an all-new design to the hair on his head and shoulders. He comes with an alternate, a pair of alternate hands and his classic mace. The colors on this figure are also inspired by the vintage LJN figure, with his red and purple arm bracelets and ankle wraps. And yes, that is my vintage Monkian photographed below as well!
