SWAT Kats Turbokat Is Back After 30 Years and Ramen Toy Is Going Big

Ramen Toy has announced a massive Turbokat collector model from the 1990s animated series SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron! The upcoming release measures more than two feet long and includes articulated figures of T-Bone and Razor that fit inside the jet’s cockpit. The announcement comes from Ramen Toy and the official SWAT Kats Instagram account, along with new renders and product specifications.

I’ll admit, SWAT Kats is completely new to me. I was 16 when the cartoon debuted in 1993 and had pretty much moved on from watching cartoons by then. I’d never even heard of the series until this announcement, but I love discovering older cartoons and toy lines that I missed growing up. And I really like the design of this jet!

For those unfamiliar with SWAT Kats, the series was created by Christian and Yvon Tremblay and produced by Hanna-Barbera. It debuted in 1993 and followed Chance Furlong (T-Bone) and Jake Clawson (Razor), two former Enforcer pilots who secretly protected Megakat City using their modified fighter jet, the Turbokat.

The cartoon ended in 1995 after two seasons. Its cancellation has been discussed for years, with concerns about cartoon violence and merchandising problems among the issues raised.

Remco also released a short-lived SWAT Kats toy line in 1994. The assortment included T-Bone, Razor, Dark Kat, and Dr. Viper, but the line never expanded much beyond those initial figures. Remco never produced a Turbokat vehicle to accompany them. The cartoon’s cancellation and merchandising difficulties occurred around the same time, although there’s no clear evidence that cancellation alone ended the toy line. You can see the original figures in The Toy Box’s retrospective on Remco’s SWAT Kats toy line.

More than 30 years later, Ramen Toy is taking on the Turbokat, with detailed renders of the aircraft and specifications for the vehicle and its pilots.

Turbokat Uncolored 3D Renders

Ramen Toy’s uncolored renders reveal the panel lines, vents, and recessed sections incorporated into the Turbokat’s design. The front features a pointed nose, wide wings, and two large engine housings on either side of the fuselage.

Three exhaust nozzles are positioned across the rear, with a smaller central engine between the two larger outer engines. Additional fins extend beneath the engine housings.

Panel lines run along the fuselage, with vents and recessed sections near the cockpit and engine assembly. The side profile also reveals the layered construction of the engine housing and the swept shape of the rear stabilizer.

The wings include recessed panels and smaller control surfaces, with additional panel lines running across the upper fuselage. The top view also reveals the shape of the twin rear stabilizers.

Turbokat Full-Color Renders

Ramen Toy has confirmed that the Turbokat measures 720 mm long (28.3 inches), 610 mm wide (24 inches), and 190 mm tall (7.5 inches). The announced features include a light-up cockpit, illuminated afterburner nozzles, and seating for both T-Bone and Razor. The main body will use ABS plastic, with selected PVC components and metal detail and structural parts.

The Turbokat combines swept wings, tall rear fins, and a long pointed nose. The red cockpit framing follows the contours of the fuselage, with additional red sections across the wings. I really like the overall design, especially the black and red color scheme.

Red markings extend down the sides of the cockpit, with large yellow intake sections beneath the wings. The transparent canopy covers two seating positions.

Some of the renders depict the Turbokat with its engine assemblies repositioned. In this configuration, the red engine openings are exposed above the aircraft rather than extending behind the wings.

The alternate configuration exposes additional engine components, including circular openings and mechanical sections around the repositioned assemblies.

T-Bone and Razor Figures

The Turbokat will include articulated figures of T-Bone and Razor, designed to fit inside the cockpit. Both figures are produced at 1:24 scale, with T-Bone measuring approximately 70 mm (2.76 inches) and Razor measuring approximately 60 mm (2.36 inches). Each figure will feature approximately 10 points of articulation, PVC bodies, and POK joints.

Razor wears a blue flight suit with red harness straps, black gloves, and a blue-and-red helmet. His orange fur, pointed ears, and cheek fur are sculpted to match his animated appearance. The rear view reveals crossed harness straps and a tail extending behind the figure.

T-Bone has a broader torso, larger arms, and oversized hands compared with Razor. His blue flight suit includes red straps, black chest pouches, and an open collar revealing a white undershirt. The rear view shows crossed harness straps, while the side profile reveals the stripes on his arms and his tail.

The figures retain their different proportions, with T-Bone standing approximately 10 mm taller than Razor. Both wear matching blue-and-red flight gear with black gloves and chest pouches. Their facial sculpts differ, with T-Bone’s broader muzzle contrasting with Razor’s narrower face and larger cheek fur.
