“The Force is strong with this one.” Huge thanks to @galacticfigures for posting these images and details! Tamashii Nations has revealed a stunning new wave of SH Figuarts figures based on Star Wars: A New Hope, and boy are we thrilled! We’re getting Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia, all featuring coloring inspired by the original 1977 movie poster. How amazing is that?! I always loved that iconic original poster artwork, and seeing Tamashii Nations translate that painterly, vintage color palette into articulated figure form is super exciting. The Darth Vader features his fabric inner cloak and that classic SH Figuarts articulation we’ve come to expect, and the movie poster color treatment gives these figures a really cool stylized look that sets them apart from any other versions on the shelf. Luke Skywalker features coloring inspired by the original movie poster, which is such a cool touch, along with newly sculpted facial expression parts and a lightsaber for all your posing needs. Princess Leia features newly sculpted facial expression parts and comes with various optional parts including a hood-up look so you can recreate that iconic early scene aboard the Tantive IV. Getting all three of these characters in this style is going to make for an incredible display together. Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia are scheduled for an April 2027 release in Japan, with preorders opening November 2, 2026 at 4:00 PM JST. With 2027 marking the 50th anniversary of A New Hope, it makes total sense that Bandai is gearing up to celebrate the occasion, and I love that they’re kicking things off with these three iconic characters! So let’s take a look at the SH Figuarts Star Wars A New Hope Darth Vader, Luke Sykwalker & Princess Leia reveals!
Darth Vader
Darth Vader’s chest panel is loaded with tiny sculpted buttons and switches, and the chain detail connecting his cape at the collar adds a nice touch of authenticity to the A New Hope look. The fabric inner cloak drapes with real weight and texture, layering over the sculpted robes beneath in a way that sells the scale beautifully.
You can see how the belt buckle and surrounding hardware have their own distinct finish, separating them from the matte black of his robes with a subtle metallic sheen. His gloves feature a quilted, ribbed texture that carries all the way through the fingers, and the sculpted wrinkles across the bodysuit underneath give the whole figure a layered, lived-in feel.
Here’s a closer look at the helmet, and the glossy black finish really nails the smooth, reflective quality of the A New Hope dome and faceplate. The sculpt on the mask’s angular cheekbones and triangular mouth grille is sharp and precise, with the eye lenses sitting deep in their recesses under that pronounced brow ridge.
Darth Vader’s fabric cape sweeps dramatically to the side, and the way it flows and catches air gives this figure a sense of motion that a sculpted cape just can’t replicate. I like how the red lightsaber blade has a translucent quality with a deeper crimson tone toward the hilt, contrasting sharply against all that black.
The lightsaber hilt has a clean silver finish with fine grooved detailing along its body, and you can see how the wired texture of his bodysuit extends all the way down to the sculpted knee armor. Something I appreciate here is how the fabric cape billow creates a full sense of movement even from this angle, with the hood section lifting away from the helmet to show the separation between soft goods and sculpted elements.
Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker is clad in his iconic white Tatooine tunic and matching trousers, and the “Movie Poster Color Ver.” deco gives the whole outfit a cooler, slightly blue-shifted tone that feels distinct from the usual warm cream. His lightsaber blade has a gorgeous translucent blue gradient that really pops against the muted whites of the outfit.
Luke’s smiling face sculpt captures a youthful, confident Mark Hamill likeness, with soft brown hair that has a natural tousled sweep to it. The utility belt has a silver buckle and a small holster with a macrobinoculars case sculpted on the hip, and the leg wraps carry subtle tonal shifts between white and light grey.
You can see how the serious expression on this alternate face sculpt changes the whole feel of the figure, with a focused brow and tighter jawline that sell a completely different moment than the smiling portrait. The tunic’s wide sleeves drape convincingly around the forearms, and the fabric folds across the chest have a soft, natural layering that keeps things looking organic rather than stiff.
A close-up reveals just how sharp the likeness work is on this serious portrait, with subtle lines around the mouth and a slightly furrowed brow that nail a young Mark Hamill. The sandy blonde hair sculpt has fine strand detail throughout, and the crossover of the tunic collar frames his face with clean, overlapping layers of off-white fabric.
I like the way the white utility belt sits naturally against the tunic, with the blaster tucked snugly into its holster on the hip. The boots have a clean, rounded sculpt with subtle seam lines, and the leg wraps bunch up just above them in a way that feels appropriately lived-in for a farm kid from Tatooine.
Outfitted with his full Tatooine ensemble, Luke cuts a clean silhouette here, and the cooler movie poster color palette really comes through in the way the tunic and trousers read as a unified pale blue-white rather than separate pieces. The macrobinoculars case and blaster holster add just enough visual weight to the belt area to break up all that white without cluttering the look.
Princess Leia
Dressed in her iconic white senatorial gown, Princess Leia looks fantastic here, with soft fabric-like folds sculpted throughout the flowing dress and a gathered neckline that sits naturally against the hood draped behind her shoulders. The blaster she’s gripping is molded in matte black with fine mechanical detailing along the barrel and receiver, and you can just catch the ribbed texture on her tall grey boots peeking out from beneath the gown’s hem.
I like the way they’ve handled the face sculpt here, with her brown eyes carrying a lot of expression and her lips done in a subtle reddish tone that keeps the likeness grounded. The gold cinch belt has a geometric, almost quilted texture to it that breaks up the white gown beautifully, with a pointed V-shape where it fastens at the front.
Something I appreciate here is how well this moment works between Leia and R2-D2, recreating that classic exchange aboard the Tantive IV. Her hooded head sculpt is a great alternate option, with the white hood sitting smoothly over her hair and framing her face in a way that feels true to the film.
A close-up reveals the smiling face sculpt, which is one of the newly sculpted expression options included with the figure, and it really captures a warm, candid Carrie Fisher likeness. Her signature braided buns are neatly sculpted with individual strand work winding through each coil, and the flared bell sleeves on the gown have a nice drape to them that adds a sense of softness to the overall silhouette.
