We’ve got an exciting early look at the upcoming Masters of the Universe Origins Sketch Book Series Sy-Klone figure—and this one’s a real whirlwind! Although this figure isn’t scheduled to hit Target stores until July 20, 2025, Isidro Gonzalez Gonzalez has shared in-hand photos ahead of the official release! He posted them in the amazing MOTU Origins, WWE Masters, Superstars & TOG~Fans Facebook group, giving fans a great early preview of the unique concept deco on this new version of Sy-Klone. Sy-Klone (along with Spikor) was confirmed to be coming to the line back in February 2025. What makes this reveal even more exciting is that Isidro included side-by-side comparisons with the Mattel Creations MOTU Origins Sy-Klone, so collectors can see just how different—and dynamic—this Sketch Book version is. With bold black linework with lots of easter eggs, we get to see all of the amazing talent that @fetch.franciscoetchart pours into each illustration on the final box design. Let’s take a closer look at this surprise spin into the world of MOTU!

The new MOTU Origins Sketch Book Series Sy-Klone figure is a faithful and vibrant translation of Roger Sweet’s original 1980s concept art, bringing the illustrated design to life. The figure captures the essence of the sketch with its iconic chest radar featuring red, green, and yellow swirling motion. Every detail reflects the original artwork’s energy and style, making this figure feel like it leapt straight from the sketch into collectors’ hands. Also shown is Sy-Klone’s blue and yellow head sculpt, which mirrors the figure that was actually produced in the vintage MOTU line.

In this side-by-side image, the MOTU Origins Sketch Book Series Sy-Klone figure stands on the left, while the MOTU Origins Mattel Creations exclusive Sy-Klone figure is on the right. The Sketch Book version features a bold look with bright orange limbs, dark navy-blue boots, gloves, and shorts, and a silver chest piece adorned with stylized red, green, and yellow radar in a swirling pattern. His helmet includes yellow highlights and a red visor, giving him a hand-drawn, illustrated appearance. In contrast, the Mattel Creations exclusive has a more traditional toy-accurate aesthetic, with a vibrant blue and yellow color scheme, red accents, and his signature red spinning rings attached to his back. He sports a yellow helmet, a blue face, and a more classic depiction of the radar chest, making the two figures visually distinct interpretations of the same heroic character.

For some head swapping, the MOTU Origins version was placed on the Sketch Book series figure and vice versa! The extra head blends amazingly well with the MOTU Origins versions as they matched the yellows exactly!

We also have a very cool look at the boxes for both Sketch Book Series and MOTU Origins Mattel Creations exclusive versions provided by the amazing toy photographer eyesonthescreen and both boxes are illustrated by @fetch.franciscoetchart, which shows the diversity of his talent!

Sy-Klone Sketch Book Series Leak
With the reveal of the Evil-Horde 2-pack that kicked off the Masters of the Universe Origins Sketchbook Series, Mark Taylor and Roger Sweet’s early concepts of the Masters of the Universe figures are on a fast track production. This was a brilliant move by Mattel as we get a peak into an alternate reality as the early concepts very well could have been green lit for production and the figures and characters we know today could have looked very different. Mark Taylor is a former toy designer who worked for Mattel in the 1980s, during the development of the Masters of the Universe toy line. Taylor is known for his contributions to the early development of the franchise, including the creation of many iconic characters such as He-Man, Skeletor, and Battle Cat. With teases of Skeletor (aka Evil Incarnate) and He-Man on the Hordak and Grizzlor Sketch Book Series card art, the door is wide open to bring more concepts of yesteryear to life! Thanks to yo_tengo_el_poder for posting a listing from Heo that shows that Sy-Klone and Spikor are coming to the MOTU Origins Sketch Book series!

Sy-Klone
Although the illustrations appear to depict two very different characters, they are actually early design concepts for Sy-Klone, a character with a unique action feature developed by Roger Sweet. The design on the right closely resembles the final sculpt, while the overall look and color scheme of the figure on the left clearly draws from the other design. Interestingly, this same design was later used in several minicomics, most notably in the “Spikor Strikes” minicomic that came with his action figure. In that minicomic, Sy-Klone was mistakenly referred to as Tornado in one panel, which was a temporary name for the character.
