Walmart Collector Con just went live and we have the good, the bad, and the ugly round up for you! We previously covered the Retro GI Joe Classified Series announcement for you previously. Now that Collector con is live, we know that we got all 4 Retro figures up for preorder! But were you able to order them?

The good, after an hour of frustration, and constant error messages, I was able to pre-order the figures. The bad, the moment Collector Con went live, nothing was working and it was a scatter shot if and when I was able to add to cart. The ugly was when all the items i checked, even non GI Joe con items were all having the same “Please try again” or “Unable to add to Cart” on everything thing I tried! Even a freakin’ Star Wars Bespin Security Guard wouldn’t add to cart. It was a morning full of frustration and error messages! In the end after multiple attempts and a lot of patience I was able to get my pre-orders thru, but it wasn’t easy! Collectors were met with these error messages:

Were you able to get your pre-orders in? Would we like to hear from you! Well after a cray morning of trying to order these, let’s take a closer look at closer look at each of the 4 new Retro Classified releases:

Gung Ho:

Gung Ho is the Retro Classified figure I was excited about the most! And if you were one of the lucky ones to successfully place your preorder, then you are in for a treat! The original Classified release of Gung Ho had a grittier, darker look to it, and it wasn’t the look of Gung Ho all of us were used to. But this new Retro Gung Ho makes up for it all! He is dressed in his original teal blue outfit, and gone are the extra should pads and metallic accents! This is classic Gung Ho all the way! The retro card art illustration is a direct tribute to the vintage 1983 card art, with subtle updates. Gung Ho’s hat is illustrated in the Classified Series design that comes with the figure, and he also includes ammo packs on his left thigh. They also made a new backpack and gun for Gung Ho that the mirror the vintage accessories.

Destro:

This new Retro version of Destro is just a slight update to his original Classified figure release. Harkening back to the vintage card art, you will notice the grenades missing from the left forearm that the vintage figure had. It would have been nice if they re-sculpted that for this Retro figure release. But this Destro is really more of a repaint. They went in a slightly different direction with Destro’s weapons and accessories as Hasbro decided to reuse the briefcase that came packed with the v2 release of the GI Joe Classified Series Destro vs. creating a brand-new backpack style briefcase like the vintage figure. Destro’s gun also deviates slightly from the vintage figure, but the Classified Series version mirrors the card art and not the actual weapon Destro was packed with in 1983.

Baroness

This retro version of the Baroness is similar in pose and emotion as the original Classified release. But her outfit harkens back to the 1984 vintage Baroness. The face sculpt of this new Retro Baroness looks more like a doll as it has more of a gentile and soft look to it. In terms of accessories, she looks to be packed with standard issue Classified accessories. It would have been nice if she came with a backpack like her vintage counterpart. I think she was one of the most unique looking vintage backpacks. In addition, her long rifle really does not match her vintage style design very well either.

Lady Jaye:

Lady Jaye’s looks very similar to her original Classified figure release, with a new face sculpt and slightly updated color scheme on her outfit. Her vintage card illustration deviates the most from her vintage card as she is rendered in her Classified Series likeness. Her camera and javelin were updated in the card art and her posture and cheek lines in the Classified Series illustration really mirrors the vintage card art from 1985. The weapons and accessories also mirror the vintage figure really well as she comes packed with a new green backpack, a green camera, and gray javelin, paying homage to the vintage figure. This is a welcome update to a Classified series release, with some nice updates.
