Mattel revealed 6 more figures for their WWE Superstars line at SDCC 2022! The new figures include The Rock, Macho Man Randy Savage, Mr. T, Ravishing Rick Rude, Earthquake, and Typhoon! Given the amazing figures from previous series in the line, the WWE Superstars line up for 2023 look amazing!

Ravishing Rick Rude
It is very apropos that Mattel decided to use Rick Rude’s wrestling tights from his Intercontinental Title Match with the Ultimate Warrior from Wrestlemania 5. What made this ring attire so special was it was Rude’s first and only IC title win in WWE history. Rude was known for creating special tights when he wrestled against various opponents and for this pair of tights, he included the IC Title on the front and an illustration of the Ultimate warrior on the back. Mattel even captured the smug look on his face, which was a common expression as his gimmick was a chauvinistic, arrogant man that often out the crowd down as he undressed out of his entrance attire. Rude as was also known for wearing elaborate, long robes to the ring as he performed a mock strip tease as he took it off so it will be great to see what his robe, if they include one) looks like in the coming months.

Rick Rude History
According to The Sportster:
“It is surprising to fans that his only singles title in WWE came after his victory over Warrior at Wrestlemania V at Trump Plaza. Rude was only in the WWE for a short as his run lasted from 1987-1990, so just three years. In the day and age of multiple champions with the current record holder holding the belt nine times in Chris Jericho and even Wade Barret holds five. This may seem like a slight to Rude’s ability despite the title being more prestigious back then. One of the reasons that he ultimately left WWE was over issues about moving up the card and being utilized properly amongst other reasons.”
After joining the WWE in June 1987 and making his televised debut in October 1987 on Wrestling Challenge as the Ultimate Warrior, the Dingo Warrior moniker was quietly retired in favour of something different. It is a little-known fact that Warrior was in fact pinned for the very first time by Rude in December 1987 at an untelevised House Show. This fact would come back around again in 1989 as Rude became the very first person to hand Warrior a pinfall televised loss in his career in the WWE at Wrestlemania V. Albeit with Bobby Heenan’s help from interference after Warrior’s 18 months of being active in the WWE.

Earthquake
It is amazing to see Mattel adding their first tag team to the WWE Superstars line and it is an intersting choice (on the surface) that they chose the Earthquake as one of the first wrestlers. Actually, the Earthquake was part of a very successful tag team with Typhoon (featured below) so the opening salvo makes total sense! They did create the NWO faction with Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and Hollywood Hogan as they wrestled as tag teams in the WCW but we have our first official WWF tag team! Because this line features the use of soft goods, we are expecting the black, red, and white ring attire to be soft goods to reveal Earthquakes singles competition in blue. He looks like he will also come with an extra set of set boots and kneepads so you can remove them and swap them out for both looks. They have also introduced a new figure buck to the line as not everyone has 20 pack abs lol. The only way Mattel can pull off both looks is make a one piece soft goods leotard as the figure would look odd with just a tank top and blue trunks.

Earthquake History
Earthquake (aka John Tenta), wrestled both a singles competitor and as a tag team! The most famous tag team he was a part of featured himself and Typhoon (who was called Tug Boat at the time). According the WWE:
A champion sumo wrestler before entering the ring, the gigantic Earthquake first captured the attention of the WWE Universe in 1989 when he squashed Ultimate Warrior and joined forces with Dino Bravo and Jimmy Hart. Then known as The Canadian Earthquake, the big man quickly laid many opponents to waste, including Hercules at WrestleMania VI.
By 1990, the near 500-pounder was such a dominant competitor that he set his sights on Hulk Hogan. The behemoth used his mass to crush Hogan’s ribs during an edition of The Brother Love Show and nearly defeated The Hulkster in their bout at SummerSlam in 1990.
The following year, Earthquake would stun the WWE Universe when he attacked Jake “The Snake” Roberts. In one of the most shocking moments in WWE history, the big man repeatedly jumped on the bag containing Jake’s beloved snake, Damien. Earthquake would go on to actually cook and eat the python, proving how vicious he could be.
Later that year, the giant teamed up with Typhoon to form The Natural Disasters. One of the largest duos in wrestling history, the massive men battled great teams like The Legion of Doom and Money, Inc. and captured the World Tag Team Championships in 1992. Around this time, Earthquake had a surprising change of heart and became one of the WWE Universe’s favorite Superstars.

Typhoon
Like we mentioned above, Typhoon was a part of a very successful tag team called the Natural Disasters and, like Earthquake, they are giving him multiple ways to display his look! Before he changed his gimmick to Typhoon, he was called Tug Boat so it will be intersting to see if they include any soft goods to pay homage to that part of the wrestlers history. Typhoon comes with a soft goods tank top.

Typhoon History
Like we mentioned before, Typhoon originally wrestler under the name Tug Boat until he changed his name in 1991. According to the WWE:
“Toot toot!” That was the call of Tugboat, one of the largest and most powerful men to ever compete in WWE. Dressed like an old-school sailor, the big man joined forces with Hulk Hogan in the early ’90s and helped The Hulkster battle the devious team of Earthquake and Dino Bravo.
It wasn’t long before Tugboat had a change of heart, however. In 1991, the powerhouse began calling himself Typhoon and joined up with Earthquake to form The Natural Disasters. Together, the two giants were a dominating duo and had many memorable battles with teams like Legion of Doom and Money, Inc. In 1992, the behemoths won the World Tag Team Championships and held the titles for three months. Soon after losing the gold, Typhoon would disappear from WWE.
In 2001, Tugboat made his return in the memorable Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X-Seven. While the big man hasn’t been seen since, he did take the time to talk to WWE.com for a Where Are They Now? feature in 2007, which you can read here.
Tug Boat (aka Typhoon)

Natural Disasters
The Natural Disasters were a professional wrestling tag team composed of Earthquake (John Tenta) and Typhoon (Fred Ottman) who worked in the World Wrestling Federation between 1991 and 1993.[1] They won the WWF Tag Team Championship once. In 1993, Earthquake and Typhoon began showing signs of dissension, most noticeably at the 1993 Royal Rumble.[17] Typhoon was already in the ring when Earthquake entered as #23 and he immediately went after his tag team partner, focusing only on him until Typhoon was eliminated.[18] The Disasters’ feud never came to fruition as Earthquake left the WWF very early in 1993. Typhoon briefly stayed with the WWF after Earthquake left. In mid-1993, he signed with WCW and made an infamous debut as The Shockmaster. Typhoon briefly returned to the WWF midcard in 1994.

Mr. T
WWE Superstars Reveal
Mattel drew inspiration from many sources for their upcoming Mr. T WWE Superstars figure. It looks like they have combined some of T’s attire he wore as a WWE wrestler, Rocky III, and his Wrestlemania 1 wrestling attire. He comes with a layered soft goods look as he sports his classic camo tank top shirt and red long sleeve shirt underneath. He has a large gold wrist cuff on his right arm and his large array of gold chains around his neck that are removable. If you look closely at his hands, they also included the myriad of rings Mr. T wore. His wrestling attire was a simple yellow trunks, knee high sicks, and a large ‘T’ belt that appears to be removable as well. He also comes with an extra set of hands to complete the look!

Mr. T Masters of the WWE Universe Figure
Mr. T is no stranger to Mattel and world of wrestling figures as he also was created for the discontinued Masters of the WWE Universe line as the ‘Heroic Pitier of Fools.’ In this line, they used armor from the Masters of the Universe Classics Jitsu figure as well as removable gauntlets that slip over each hand. The gauntlet on his right hand was a piece that was reused from a previous figure in the line, Roman Reigns while the one on his left hand was a new sculpt.

Mr. T History
According to the WWE:
“Few men in history have bridged the gap between the world of professional wrestling and pop culture quite like Mr. T. Pitying fools from the South Side of Chicago all the way to Madison Square Garden, the man born Laurence Tureaud anchored the very first WrestleMania in 1985 and helped create some of the most iconic moments from Hulkamania’s early days. First gaining national attention after winning an NBC competition called “America’s Toughest Bouncer,” Mr. T — with a shawl of gold jewelry around his neck and an unmistakable Mohawk — was recruited by Sylvester Stallone to play the villainous Clubber Lang in “Rocky III.” As the film’s larger-than-life antagonist, he uttered one of the most famous lines in movie history: “I don’t hate Balboa, but I pity the fool.” Mr. T’s turn as Clubber Lang led to a breakout role as B.A. Baracus on the NBC action series “The A-Team.” It was there that T went from a star to a bona fide 1980s icon with his own Saturday morning cartoon and breakfast cereal. While starring on one of television’s biggest hits, the gold-covered brawler joined up with his “Rocky III” co-star Hulk Hogan in WWE in 1985.”

Macho Man Randy Savage
Macho Man Randy Savage, one of the most iconic and boisterous wrestlers of the golden era has been immortalized in plastic and soft goods. He features his classic purple star studded trunks, headband, and yellow boots. He is also known for changing up his wrestling attire with a mix of robes, jackets, hats, bandanas, and the boots to match. It’s a crap shoot whether his classic sunglasses with the white frames will be removable but we are guessing not as they did not include this in the as a removable piece in the digital render below. His wrestling look pays homage to his Wrestlemania 3 appearance as he stole the show with Ricky the Dragon Steamboat in one of the most iconic IC title matches in WWE history! He also known as the Macho King and wore several flavors of the star robe but we can’t pin down the exact robe that Mattel created in soft goods but this figure was also on display at SDCC 2022 and it looks amazing!

Randy Savage Masters of the WWE Universe Figure
The Macho Man was also featured in the WWE Superstars line, like Mr. T! He was made to mirror Man-At-Arms and featured a removable helmet, large leg armor, a mace and battle armor!

Macho Man Randy Savage History
According to the WWE:
Few Superstars were as dynamic as “Macho Man” Randy Savage. His style — perfectly punctuated by his entrance music, “Pomp and Circumstance” — was only outshined by his performances in the ring, which led him to two WWE Championships, four WCW World Championships and a 14-month reign as Intercontinental Champion. Born Randy Poffo, son of wrestling Legend Angelo Poffo, Macho Man almost chose Major League Baseball over World Wrestling Entertainment. Poffo was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as a catcher after graduating high school. After years developing in the minor leagues, a collision at home plate caused an injury to his throwing arm, ending his baseball career.
Joining WWE in June 1985, Macho Man made such an impact that his services were in demand by the various managers in WWE at that time. But Savage introduced a young woman named Elizabeth to accompany him to the ring and manage him. With the First Lady of Wrestling as his manager, the Superstar’s first major achievement was reaching the finals of a one-night tournament, as part of the Wrestling Classic pay-per-view event in November 1985. The following February, after a lengthy rivalry with then-Intercontinental Champion Tito Santana, Macho Man defeated the WWE Hall of Famer to earn his first WWE title.
Savage became a WrestleMania staple early on, making his debut on The Grandest Stage of Them All at WrestleMania 2 where he defended the Intercontinental Championship against the intimidating and unpredictable George “The Animal” Steele. From there, he defended the title all the way until WrestleMania III when he fell short against Ricky Steamboat in what is considered by many to be one of the greatest matches of all time.
Savage went on to dub himself “Macho King” after defeating “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan for the King of the Ring title in 1989. Carrying a scepter and crown, he called on Sensational Sherri to replace Elizabeth as his manager. Savage targeted then-WWE Champion Ultimate Warrior with a series of attacks in response to being denied a title opportunity, which led to a Career-Ending Match at WrestleMania VII. When Savage was pinned, Sherri attacked him as he lay helpless. Fortunately, Elizabeth was in the audience and rushed to his aid, sparking arguably the most romantic moment the WWE Universe had ever witnessed. The sight of Miss Elizabeth and Macho Man embracing in the center of the ring after all those years was one of the fans would not soon forget.

The Rock
Not the most iconic of ring attires, Mattel chose to take the Rock back to his cowhide days as we sported his infamous black and white vest. Known for his amazing skills on the mic cutting memorable promos, it is not surprising that he comes with a mic, like Ric Flair. As the digital render shows, his trunk have ‘The Rock’ labeled on them in silver with a red outline and we can catch a view of his Bramha bull tattoo, which he eventually got rid of in 2017 as he tattooed his entire arm in a sleeve, leaving that piece of history behind him. Also known for wearing different types of sunglasses, the yellow frames ad a nice pop of color to the figure. They also included a nod to his signature ‘People’s Eyebrow’ and this looks like it is going to be a stellar figure.

The Rock Masters of the WWE Universe Figure
Like Macho Man and Mr T., The Rock as had a stint in the Masters of the WWE Universe line as “The Most Electrifying Man in WWEternia!” This figure introduced a championship belt to the line and he came with some energy effects and a black mace.

The Rock History
After a rocky (pun intended) start in the WWE debut in the WWE in 1996 at the Survivor Series, A young man then known as Rocky Maivia made his splash. As he made his way to the ring, broadcaster Jim Ross said, “Now there is gonna be the man, right there. That’s blue chip, right there.” There were some growing pains in the early part of Maivia’s career; fans would often chant “Die, Rocky, Die.” But once he transformed into The Rock, he became “the man.” According to the WWE:
He has been dubbed The Great One, The People’s Champion and The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment. Mere words fail to capture the essence of the most charismatic Superstar of all time, though the catchphrase “boots to asses” comes awfully close.
The first third-generation Superstar in WWE history, the man born Dwayne Johnson was destined for sports-entertainment immortality since birth, but his rise to the status of a pop culture icon was harder to predict. In the time since he made his debut as a grinning good guy at the 1996 Survivor Series, The Brahma Bull has won eight WWE Championships, headlined WrestleMania, hosted “Saturday Night Live,” written a New York Times bestselling autobiography, top-billed the popular HBO series “Ballers” and starred in films like “Fast Five” and “The Game Plan,” which have grossed literally billions of dollars. The amazing thing is, he’s just getting started.
Son of WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson, the University of Miami football standout showed promise early when he won the Intercontinental Championship within months of first setting foot in the ring. From there, The Rock’s momentum never slowed, as he laid the smackdown on “Attitude Era” rivals like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Triple H while spouting off endless catchphrases that immediately became part of national conversation. With one eyebrow cocked, The People’s Champion would warn jabronis to “Know your role and shut your mouth” or “Just bring it!” before delivering his devastating finishing maneuver, The Rock Bottom, on the way to victory.
The 6-foot-5 competitor was soon fielding offers to star in films like “The Scorpion King” and “Gridiron Gang” thanks to the endless charisma and appeal he exuded in the squared circle. Despite a record-setting Hollywood career that included roles in the “Fast & Furious” franchises as well as “Pain & Gain,” “Hercules” and “San Andreas,” The Rock still returned to the ring against John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania XXVIII, won the WWE Championship from CM Punk in 2013 and defended it against Cena once again at WrestleMania 29 — all while proving to WWE’s newest generation of fans what their elders already knew: That he truly is The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment. If ya smellllllll …
