Battle For Eternia MOTU Core 2 in 1 Playset Revealed

We’ve been tracking placeholder listings for a new Masters of the Universe Core playset for a little while now, with early Amazon Canada listings giving us the first hints that something big was coming, and now thanks to a Smyths Toy Event in Germany, we finally have our first real look at what Mattel has been cooking up, and it is a Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain 2-in-1 playset that honestly looks like an absolute blast. The concept of combining both iconic fortresses into a single playset is such a smart move for the Core line, giving kids and collectors alike both sides of the eternal battle in one package, and from the images shown at the event, the sculpt and detail look really impressive for what appears to be a very accessible price point. We’ve received word from an anonymous source that Walmart will be pricing this at around $85 USD, which, if accurate, is a genuinely compelling number for a playset of this scope that essentially gives you the two most legendary locations in all of Eternia. What makes this even sweeter is that it comes packed with a new Skeletor figure, which is a great inclusion that rounds out the whole package and means you’re getting a villain to storm the castle right out of the gate. I love how the design splits the heroic and evil halves so distinctly while still working as a cohesive piece, and seeing Mattel continue to invest in playsets for this line is encouraging because these are the kinds of toys that spark imagination and make the whole MOTU ecosystem feel more alive. It’s also TBD if the bridge and other platforms will be included but for an $85 price point, we are leaning on no. Also, no official announcement has dropped yet from Mattel’s channels, so details on a wider release and additional retailers could still be coming, but for now this reveal out of Germany has given us plenty to be fired up about.

Here is a far shot of the display where a large-scale Castle Grayskull sculpt anchors the display, its green stone facade and jutting fangs framing a small battle diorama nestled inside the jaw opening. To the left, Snake Mountain’s purple rock formations cascade down in tiers alongside several smaller playsets and figures populating the elevated shelving, giving a good sense of how much the full Battle For Eternia MOTU Core Playset fills out a display space.

The bridge connecting Castle Grayskull to Snake Mountain is fully extended here, spanning the gap between the drawbridge platform and the purple rocky terrain where several figures are scattered across multiple elevation points. The hinge joint where the two halves meet is clearly functional, and the sheer length of Snake Mountain’s craggy face running from the serpent head all the way down to the base gives this thing a footprint that’s going to eat up a whole shelf.

The full spread of the Battle For Eternia MOTU Core Playset shows the hinged connection point where Castle Grayskull’s tan brickwork meets Snake Mountain’s purple rock face, the two halves folding together into one continuous structure. The lowered drawbridge extends out front with its stone slab texture, while Snake Mountain’s jagged spine ridges stretch along the full length of the right side, populated with figures at various levels to give a real sense of how much display real estate this thing covers.

Castle Grayskull dominates the scene with its massive skull facade, jagged teeth framing the open jaw entrance, and flanking towers covered in sculpted brickwork with pink weathering streaks. Perched atop one of the towers, the new Core Skeletor repaint sports a darker, more armored deco with gold trim and purple energy effects on his staff.

Through the skull’s open jaw, the Power Sword sits on a stone pedestal deep inside Castle Grayskull, flanked by the ornate gold doors of the inner chamber.

Skeletor perched atop the tower sells the scale of Castle Grayskull perfectly, with the full skull facade and Snake Mountain’s purple rock face flanking him on either side. The purple energy effects on his staff look like they are from the Core action feature Skeletor.

The Havoc Staff gets a great close look here, sculpted in sharp detail, curling horns and all, and two separate purple energy effect pieces wrapping around the shaft. Skeletor’s hooded head sculpt holds up nicely at this range, the sunken eyes and skeletal grin carved deep into the face.

Beast Man stands before Castle Grayskull’s jaw entrance, the Sword of Power mounted on its pedestal just beyond the ornate gold doors behind him. The teal insignia centered on the skull’s forehead and the red weathering splashed across the towers give the whole facade a worn, battle-tested look that the original vintage playset only hinted at.

Snake Mountain’s entrance is framed by a massive serpent head, its open jaws lined with sculpted fangs that double as a spiked portcullis gate. Skel-Knight stands just outside the maw, and the sheer scale of the serpent sculpt dwarfs him, really selling how imposing this playset is.

Other Areas of the Display

A multi-figure diorama sits inside the skull’s open jaw, with several characters battling across a rocky stone base complete with sculpted pillars and a central throne-like seat. A small figure perched in the tower window to the far right adds a nice sense of life to the periphery of the display beyond the main scene.

A massive dragon skeleton diorama fills the lower level, its fossilized skull and ribcage sculpted into the rocky terrain where Skeletor’s Land Shark and He-Man’s Sky Sled hover above a printed lava base. The twin king statues and stepped temple platform sit on the upper tier behind it, giving the full display a layered, multi-environment feel that goes well beyond just the main playset.

He-Man rides Battle Cat up the stone staircase between two towering king statues, the cat’s red armor helmet and green-scaled body immediately commanding attention against the pale stonework. Three warriors flank the steps below, each in distinct armor kits, with the center figure in heavy green and gold plating carrying a mace.

He-Man atop Battle Cat commands the top of the stepped temple platform, the king and queen statues towering on either side with their swords planted and crowns sculpted in fine detail. Flame effect pieces sit in brazier urns at the base of each staircase, surrounded by moss and small red foliage scattered across the rocky terrain.
