MOTU Masters of the Universe SDCC 2026 Panel Reveals and Info

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 has been delivering for Masters of the Universe fans in a big way, and while we already covered the impressive booth reveals that greeted collectors on the show floor, the official MOTU panel took things even further by pulling back the curtain on Mattel’s full 2027 roadmap, and what a roadmap it is. With the franchise’s 45th anniversary on the horizon, Mattel is clearly treating 2027 as a landmark year, and the sheer volume of product revealed during the panel suggests they’re not holding anything back. The Chronicles line continues to expand with some heavy hitters, including a Bart Sears-inspired Man-At-Arms and Buzz-Off that lean into that bold, muscular aesthetic the line has become known for, along with Panthor, Sorceress with Zoar, and a Celebration Four-Pack that should give collectors plenty to chase. A Target-exclusive Origins Movie He-Man and Skeletor two-pack was also unveiled, which is an interesting retail move that could bring some real heat to the pegs. On the Origins side, the reveals were just as stacked, with Battle Armor Man-At-Arms, updated He-Man and Beast Man figures inspired by the classic vintage card art, a Build-A-Figure Shadow Beast, and the long-awaited return of Snake Mountain now featuring a lava waterfall, which is the kind of detail that makes you wonder how they keep topping themselves. Too Bad and Laser Light He-Man round out the Origins slate, both of which are deep cuts that longtime collectors will immediately appreciate. The panel also gave us a closer look at the SDCC exclusives Gym Bro Skeletor and Dream Date Skeletor, two figures that perfectly capture Mattel’s willingness to have fun with the brand while still delivering for serious collectors. Add in new packaging designs and Build-A-Figure enhancements across the line, and it’s clear Mattel has a long-term vision for both Chronicles and Origins that keeps the hobby exciting heading into a milestone year.

The panel team is introduced on screen, with Melissa Karlin, Damon Nee, Neil Segura, and Quincy Robinson posed together in front of a massive Castle Grayskull facade. Damon’s sporting a Skeletor skull tee while Neil’s rocking a vintage Masters of the Universe movie shirt, which feels right for a team deep in this brand.

MOTU Chronicles

Mattel also offered the first look at MOTU Chronicles Movie Beast Man during the panel. The slide showcased the finished figure alongside turnaround views of the digital sculpt, giving collectors a better look at the character’s bulky proportions, layered fur, and spikes from multiple angles. While no preorder details or release information were shared, the reveal confirmed that Beast Man is joining the growing MOTU Chronicles lineup inspired by the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie.

Concept art displayed on a presentation screen depicts Clawful wading through crashing teal waves, clutching an axe-style weapon while a smaller warrior figure stands behind it. Rocky, jagged formations fill the background, and the creature’s design leans into a classic fantasy-monster look with horns, clawed feet, and a broad, fanged grin.

Two panels of concept art depict a blue-armored warrior He-Man surrounded by crackling lightning and energy effects, with the piece on the right showing him mounted on a Sky Sled. Smaller figures of Buzz-Off and Man-At-Arms are scattered across the right panel’s composition, giving a sense of the Chronicles line’s expanding roster.

Mattel also shared mockups of the upcoming Masters of the Universe Chronicles packaging, giving fans an early look at the direction for the line. The boxes feature a striking gold Masters of the Universe Chronicles logo across the top, paired with dynamic character artwork running down the side panels to create a premium presentation. The He-Man and Clawful examples shown were clearly labeled as mockups and test shots, with unfinished figures standing in for the final releases, but they provide a solid preview of the branding and packaging style collectors can expect when the line reaches retail.

Mattel also unveiled an early look at MOTU Chronicles Buzz-Off, showcasing concept artwork and digital turnarounds of the insect inspired Heroic Warrior. The presentation highlighted multiple head sculpts, interchangeable armor pieces, large translucent wings, and his signature battle axe, giving collectors a glimpse at the figure’s impressive level of detail and customization. Like the other MOTU Chronicles reveals, this was an early work in progress, but it offered an exciting preview of how Buzz-Off is being reimagined for the upcoming live action Masters of the Universe universe.

Buzz-Off also received a dramatic new Chronicles redesign. The updated figure maintains the recognizable silhouette of the heroic Andreenid warrior while introducing heavier armor, sharper detailing, and a more aggressive visual style. Mattel emphasized that the new interpretation balances a fresh aesthetic with the character’s iconic look.

Mattel also revealed the actual MOTU Chronicles Movie Goat Man figure, showing it in several poses. The heavily armored warrior features a muscular build, curled ram horns, layered battle gear, and a massive double bladed axe that can be displayed in multiple configurations. The presentation highlighted the figure’s articulation and range of motion, demonstrating that Goat Man is designed to deliver both an imposing shelf presence and plenty of posing options when he joins the MOTU Chronicles line.

One of the biggest reveals for the Chronicles line was Panthor, reimagined with soft goods, articulated teeth, glass-like eyes, and enhanced textures. The figure was announced as a Target exclusive arriving in Spring 2027. Fans also got a look at an oversized movie-inspired creature figure that appeared briefly in the film but is now making its way into toy form. Mattel emphasized that these larger-scale releases will push both engineering and packaging in new directions while expanding the storytelling possibilities of the line.

The updated design features a grittier, more experienced version of Eternia’s master weapons maker while still retaining the character’s classic identity. A work-in-progress concept sheet shows front and rear turnaround views of a heavily armored warrior covered in ornate, orange-patterned plating over a dark green body, with circular motifs and flowing decorative lines running across the shoulder guards, chest piece, shin armor, and massive spherical mace weapon. The blue helmet has a pronounced crest, and the mace features a glowing cyan orb set into its head.

One of the new reveals spotlighted Man-At-Arms (Duncan). Mattel revealed that he will do a battle-worn, veteran take on Duncan was shown in both concept art and final figure form.

Additional Chronicles reveals included a highly detailed Sorceress featuring soft goods, removable wings, and her falcon form Zoar.

The Sorceress is shown alongside Zoar, her falcon companion, both rendered in white, blue, and gold. That cape has incredible sculpted ribbing running the full length, and Zoar’s wing feathers have individual feather detailing across every section.

The panel also highlighted Dream Date Skeletor, another playful alternate version inspired by the live-action movie. Dressed in a purple suit and carrying a transformed Havoc Staff that doubles as a walking cane, the figure also includes Panthor as a pet cat, continuing the lighthearted alternate-universe theme.

Mattel confirmed that 2027 marks the 45th anniversary of Masters of the Universe, with the new Masters of the Universe Chronicles line continuing well beyond the live-action movie. Rather than being limited to film characters, Chronicles will serve as a platform for new interpretations, alternate designs, and original stories featuring classic MOTU heroes and villains. The team highlighted previously announced waves featuring Light Armor He-Man, Clawful, Mekaneck, Teela, Mer-Man, and Fisto, while also teasing upcoming releases including Man-At-Arms, Buzz-Off, and Spikor. Mattel also revealed that they are redefining several characters, with striking new versions of Man-At-Arms (Duncan) and Buzz-Off shown in both concept art and final figure form.

They also revealed a Celebration 4-Pack containing Prince Adam, Teela, Man-At-Arms, and what the team described as their most screen-accurate Roboto yet.

MOTU Origins Reboot

For Masters of the Universe Origins, Mattel revealed that the line will lean heavily into the look of the original 1980s card back artwork. Figures such as He-Man, Beast Man, and Man-At-Arms have been recolored and retooled to more closely match their vintage illustrations, including a long-requested Battle Armor Man-At-Arms.

Mattel also highlighted the inspiration behind the new MOTU Origins reboot by showcasing vintage Masters of the Universe card backs and mini comics. The team explained that the updated Origins figures will pay tribute to those classic illustrations and storytelling elements, something that was already evident in the display booth where several figures were posed to recreate iconic vintage card art. It’s a nostalgic touch that ties the modern line back to its 1980s roots while giving longtime collectors familiar imagery with a fresh presentation.

The Origins 2027 lineup slide splits into two waves, with Wave 1 featuring Beast Man, Man-At-Arms in his classic helmet and harness, and He-Man in his familiar blue harness and furry trunks. Wave 2 shows Skeletor in his hooded cowl, Mer-Man with his distinctive fin crown and orange detailing, and Man-E-Faces.

One of the biggest additions to the line is Shadow Beast, which will be released as a Build-A-Figure spread across multiple waves. Mattel also confirmed improvements to Origins engineering, including swappable hip joints that allow collectors to integrate Build-A-Figure parts directly onto existing figures.

Origins packaging is also getting a major overhaul with a move to window boxes, allowing for larger Build-A-Figure parts while preserving the classic vintage aesthetic.

Each wave’s back panels will connect to create one continuous comic-style battle scene, while the side panels combine into a panoramic illustration inspired by classic MOTU box art.

A large-scale painted mural fills the display, depicting a sprawling Eternian battlefield crowded with characters from both factions and yuo can line the boxes up to form this amazing art!

The Shadow Beast is a build-a-figure spread across six purchases, with all the individual parts laid out alongside the fully assembled creature. The textured skin across the entire body has a crosshatch pattern, and that heavy riveted belt and loincloth give him a real that pays homage to his appearance across a lot of MOTU lore, including the mini comics and other current MOTU Origins teases.

The presentation slide demonstrates the Mix & Match feature across two images, showing how parts from different figures can be swapped to create new combinations. The left panel pairs two figures with interchangeable limbs and armor, while the right panel shows a fully assembled custom configuration wearing a dark helmet, mismatched gauntlets, and a shield with red detailing.

They showed a slide shows He-Man and the Chronicles Beast Man side by side for scale comparison, with He-Man’s compact, vintage-proportioned sculpt carrying his Power Sword and shield next to Beast Man’s towering, heavily textured frame with its spiked shoulders, clawed feet, and wide belt. The size difference between the two is substantial, really driving home how much of a bruiser that Beast Man design is.

MOTU Origins Movie

MOTU Origins Movie Skeletor and Teela were both featured during the panel, giving fans another look at the upcoming figures based on the live action Masters of the Universe film. The slide also included a QR code that directs collectors straight to the Target preorder pages, making it easy to reserve both figures. If you missed the reveal, the QR code is your quickest way to lock in your preorder before they sell through.

Skeletor’s movie design features a deep purple hooded cape draped over teal armor, with the Havoc Staff’s ram skull rising above his shoulder. Teela stands alongside him carrying her short sword, her white and gold outfit accented by wrapped leg armor and red boots.

First off, massive thanks to @eternianroyalty for taking some amazing images of Skeletor and Teela from the panel! Skeletor dominates the foreground with his hooded cape, the textured sculpt on the hood and cloak giving it a weathered, tattered quality, and a starburst medallion sits at the center of his chest harness. Teela stands just behind him with her gold bodice, white outfit, and sword, her headpiece and boots adding sharp color contrast.

Skeletor’s yellow skull face has red eyes recessed deep in the sockets, framed by the purple hood that drapes over his shoulders. The Havoc Staff has a nicely detailed ram skull at the top with curving horns and layered textures running down the shaft.

Up close, the skull sculpt has deep grooves along the cheekbones and brow ridge, with individually defined teeth that have a nice worn quality to them. The chest armor carries intricate circular and linear engravings across its surface, layered with ridges that give it a lot of depth.

The orange starburst element at the center of the chest harness pops against the surrounding sculpted detail, sitting right where the engraved circular patterns converge. His hands have a nice chunky sculpt with individually shaped fingers wrapping around the Havoc Staff.

Teela’s gold bodice has sculpted horizontal ridging across the torso, and the white collar frames her neckline with a clean V-shape. Her boots feature layered wraps sculpted over a deep red base, with gold accents breaking up the strapping.

Teela’s head sculpt is really solid, with bright blue eyes, a subtle confident expression, and her orange hair pulled back into a braided updo held by a gold headband. The sword has an ornate crossguard with sweeping curved ends and a wide, tapering blade.

Laser Light Skeletor’s presentation slide highlights the figure’s ornate chest armor with its layered, reddish-bronze detailing, paired with a deep purple cape and hood framing that green skull face with glowing red eyes. The Havoc Staff is called out separately alongside a “Lights up!” burst, and its oversized, ornamental head has a distinctly different sculpt from the standard version.

Too Bad (MOTU Origins) was one of the standout reveals during the panel, earning one of the biggest audience reactions. Mattel confirmed the figure has been completely reworked with an all-new torso, newly sculpted legs, and updated proportions to better capture the character’s classic look while maintaining the playability and articulation of the MOTU Origins line. The design team emphasized that the goal was to make the figure feel like a true piece of classic Masters of the Universe artwork brought into three dimensions. The team also revealed that Too Bad will include a brand-new mini-comic, with the creative team describing it as a fun, nostalgic adventure that leans into the character’s goofy personality. They noted that the figure was one of their favorite projects and that the updated sculpt and vibrant colors make Too Bad stand out on the shelf while remaining faithful to the vintage aesthetic. Mattel described the release as a long-awaited addition to the Origins lineup and one that longtime collectors have been asking for.
