SDCC 2026 Info: Future MOTU Chronicles Wave Assortments To Include Both Movie & Non-Movie Figures

One of the most interesting things to come out of Mattel’s SDCC 2026 Masters of the Universe panel wasn’t a single figure reveal but rather the pattern that emerged when you step back and look at the wave assortments as a whole, because what Mattel appears to have done with MOTU Chronicles is establish a deliberate and repeatable structure that could define the line for 2027 and beyond. When you lay out the first three waves side by side, the formula becomes clear: each wave pairs one live-action movie figure with two original, non-movie reimaginings of classic characters, giving us Wave 1 with Mekaneck, He-Man, and Clawful, Wave 2 with Fisto, Teela, and Mer-Man, and Wave 3 with Spikor, Man-At-Arms, and Buzz-Off. That’s not a coincidence, and it tells us a lot about how Mattel is thinking about the long game here. The movie has a finite cast of characters, and rather than burning through them all at once, this approach meters them out gradually while using the non-movie slots to build Chronicles into its own creative universe with fresh takes on deep cuts and beloved classics alike. We had some early intel on the Chronicles lineup before SDCC, but seeing the full wave breakdowns presented together really crystallized what Mattel is building, and it’s a smart strategy that keeps both movie fans and longtime MOTU collectors invested wave after wave. The real question now is how deep the movie roster goes and how many waves this one-to-two ratio can sustain before the balance shifts, but for now, the puzzle pieces are fitting together nicely and I’m genuinely curious to see where Chronicles heads from here.

MOTU Chronicles 3 Figure Wave Assortments for 2027

Wave 1: He-Man, Clawful, & Mekaneck

Armored He-Man from MOTU Chronicles wears a heavily sculpted chest piece with a visor helmet that has a deep red faceplate and small horn details at the crown. The layered tasset armor at his waist has a nice geometric paneling, and the sword features ornate flame-like detailing along the blade near the hilt.

Armored He-Man features a heavily plated armor design with layered tassets, angular shin guards, and a chest piece with a ribbed hose running over the shoulder. A helmet sits nearby, its visor carrying a bold orange-red lens set into a sculpted blue shell.

The head sculpt carries a sharp, determined expression with clean facial detail and blonde hair swept to one side. His Power Sword has a sleek, narrow blade with a compact crossguard, a departure from the chunkier vintage proportions.

His boots have a layered, segmented shin guard design with a matte finish that contrasts nicely against the metallic blue of the armor plates.

Clawful is an absolute beast of a sculpt, with a massive red crab-like claw arm covered in a bumpy, crater-pocked texture and sharp spikes running along his shoulders and forearms. His lower half features riveted metallic armor plates over the thighs, a tattered loincloth, and a blue waist sash, while his head sculpt has a menacing open jaw full of white fangs and a blue star marking on the forehead.

The armor on Clawful has the same bumpy, crater-pocked texture as his claw arm, tapering to a pointed tip with a heavy, reptilian weight to it. His leg armor has a copper-toned finish with sculpted rivets and small teal accent panels at the knee joints, and those clawed red feet are genuinely gnarly.

Wave 2: Fisto, Teela, Mer-Man

Mekaneck’s signature extending neck is the centerpiece here, with a long segmented column of sculpted chevron-patterned segments rising from a red chest collar up to his helmeted head. The red helmet features angular green-tinted goggles, and his body suit is a deep blue with metallic blue armor plating on the shoulders and circular joint details at the biceps.

Mekaneck’s lower half has a clean segmented blue suit with panel line details across the thighs and a simple black belt with a squared buckle. Brown boots with copper-toned shin guards and small X-stamped knee pads give the legs a grounded, functional look.

Future Figure Assortment 2: Armored Teela, Mer-Man, and Fisto

Armored Teela’s ornate chest plate and hip armor are covered in scrolling filigree, with the helmet featuring a pointed crest and a sculpted beast emblem at the crown. She carries a spear with a pointed tip and a round shield with concentric rings, and a petal-shaped skirt piece fans out from beneath the waist armor.

Armored Teela and her ornate armor is covered in swirling filigree across the torso and hip plates, with a sculpted beast face worked into the abdominal section. Her shield has concentric rings radiating from a center point, with bladed fins protruding from the outer edge.

Mer-Man’s reptilian head sculpt has a beaked snout with a furrowed brow and spiny crest running along the crown, and the skin texture across the arms and torso shifts between smooth plating on the underbelly and bumpy, warted patches on the outer limbs. His tattered loincloth has a ragged, seaweed-like sculpt hanging between organic coral-shaped hip armor.

The webbed fin pieces on the back of Mer-Man’s arms have a sculpted membrane structure with ridged spines, matching the spiny crest on his head. His feet have wide, splayed toes with webbing between them, giving the sculpt a fully amphibian look from head to toe.

Fisto v2 features a layered armor setup with a weathered metallic chest plate over a blue tunic, cinched by a brown belt with sculpted buckle details. His oversized gauntlet has a chunky, segmented design with riveted panels, and the knee-high boots carry that same battered metal finish down to the toe caps.

Up close, the gauntlet’s individual finger segments and knuckle ridges are sharply defined, with each plate separated by deep grooves. His head sculpt carries a thick, textured beard and a furrowed brow that nails the character’s no-nonsense attitude.

The blue crosshatch texture on his tunic continues beneath the waist, with a matching sash wrapping around the hips just under the belt. His forearm bracer on the non-gauntlet arm has layered, overlapping plates with a worn finish that matches the greaves and shin guards.

Wave 3: Spikor, Man-At-Arms, Buzz-Off

Mattel also unveiled an early look at MOTU Chronicles Buzz-Off, showcasing concept artwork and digital turnarounds of the insect inspired Heroic Warrior. The presentation highlighted multiple head sculpts, interchangeable armor pieces, large translucent wings, and his signature battle axe, giving collectors a glimpse at the figure’s impressive level of detail and customization. Like the other MOTU Chronicles reveals, this was an early work in progress, but it offered an exciting preview of how Buzz-Off is being reimagined for the upcoming live action Masters of the Universe universe.

Buzz-Off also received a dramatic new Chronicles redesign. The updated figure maintains the recognizable silhouette of the heroic Andreenid warrior while introducing heavier armor, sharper detailing, and a more aggressive visual style. Mattel emphasized that the new interpretation balances a fresh aesthetic with the character’s iconic look.

The updated design features a grittier, more experienced version of Eternia’s master weapons maker while still retaining the character’s classic identity. A work-in-progress concept sheet shows front and rear turnaround views of a heavily armored warrior covered in ornate, orange-patterned plating over a dark green body, with circular motifs and flowing decorative lines running across the shoulder guards, chest piece, shin armor, and massive spherical mace weapon. The blue helmet has a pronounced crest, and the mace features a glowing cyan orb set into its head.
