Buzzer and Rocksteady turn out to be a surprisingly natural combination, with the Dreadnok aesthetic fitting Rocksteady’s hulking frame like it was always meant to be there. The Dreadnok elements layer in naturally with the tan vest with its front pockets and small stamped emblems, blue jeans, skull belt buckle, and black knee pads all feel like they belong on Rocksteady’s frame rather than being grafted onto it. The aviator cap, silver goggles, and bright yellow ponytail keep the TMNT identity front and center, and the fine creases around the snout and small cheek ridges give the face real character beyond the oversized horn and teeth. His two accessories lean hard into the Buzzer side. The chain claw rifle stands nearly as tall as the figure itself, packed with toothed wheels, rails, and mechanical detailing, while the serrated axe uses a circular saw style head that fits well in his oversized hands. At 21 points of articulation the figure poses reasonably well, though I do wish the waist had a swivel since there’s a visible seam above the belt that looks like a natural spot for one. That aside, this is a really solid figure from Playmates’ TMNT x G.I. Joe crossover line. Huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store for sending this Buzzer x Rocksteady TMNT GI Joe Crossover over for review, and if he has been on your must have list, you can still grab him now at Big Bad Toy Store.

Packaging

The front artwork gives Rocksteady a great comic-book look, surrounded by jagged torn-paper graphics and bold splashes of color. The Chain claw rifle is worked into the illustration as another nice nod to Buzzer.

The character artwork gives us a better look at the aviator cap, goggles, shoulder spikes, and bandolier. Bright green, yellow, and blue splashes add some color against the black packaging.

The clear window extends around the corner for another look at the figure and accessories inside. The black packaging and bright green graphics fit right in with the TMNT side of the crossover.

All nine TMNT x G.I. Joe mashups are shown on the back, making this a handy checklist for anyone collecting the full assortment. There’s also a vintage-style file card, which is a fun G.I. Joe callback.

Figure Details

The green bandolier has individual cartridge loops and a canister across the chest, while the tan vest adds two large front pockets and small stamped emblems near the shoulders.

There are plenty of sculpted folds across the back of the vest, along with two pockets on the trousers. That seam above the belt really looks like it could have accommodated a swivel, and I wish Playmates had given us one here.

I really like the Cobra symbol sculpted directly into the left shoulder, especially against all the wrinkles and texture in the rhino skin. The chipped horn, protruding teeth, and studded wrist cuff add even more detail from this angle.

The heavy brown boots have sculpted laces, thick soles, and defined heels. You can also get a clear look at the elbow and shoulder joints against the wrinkled skin.

Paying homage to the Buzzer side of the equation, Buzzer x Rocksteady comes with a Chain claw rifle and Serrated axe, and both borrow heavily from Buzzer’s weapons. The rifle combines a detailed black body with a long toothed silver blade, while the axe has a circular saw-style head with a pointed blade through the center.

A ribbed black grip breaks up the metallic silver shaft of the Serrated axe, while the circular saw-style head has plenty of sculpted teeth around the edge. It’s a fun weapon and definitely feels like something you’d expect Buzzer to carry.

The Chain claw rifle is huge, standing nearly as tall as the figure. The tan vest, blue trousers, black knee pads, and skull belt buckle also bring plenty of Buzzer into the mashup so it’s great to see how the weapon looks and it’s obnoxiously large, like the figure.

I love the weapon loadout here and the combination gives him some serious firepower while still leaning into the exaggerated, over-the-top style of the figure.

There’s a ton of sculpted detail packed into the Chain claw rifle, including a toothed wheel at the tip, raised fasteners, rails, tubing, and mechanical panels across the black body.

Both weapons look appropriately oversized next to Rocksteady, with the long Chain claw rifle towering over the much more compact Serrated axe. I like how much Buzzer comes through in the accessories without taking away from Rocksteady himself.
