Mario Kart Carrera Go!!! Slot Car Racing Set In Hand Review

Let’s-a go! With all the excitement with the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie, I thought to myself wouldn’t it be great to get my hands on a Mario Kart Slot car set! It’s something I had as a kid, and have been wanting for a long time. A huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store for providing this Mario Kart Carrera Go!!! Slot Car Racing Set for our review! The Mario Kart Carrera Go!!! Slot Car Racing Set is one of those products that just instantly transports you back to all those hours spent racing through Rainbow Road and Koopa Beach, except now the action is happening right in front of you in physical form. Mario Kart has been a cornerstone of Nintendo gaming since it first launched on the Super Nintendo back in 1992, and over the decades it’s given us some of the most joyful, competitive, couch-screaming moments in all of gaming. Translating that energy into a slot car set is such a natural fit, and Carrera really understood the assignment here. So let’s take a look at the Mario Kart Carrera Go!!! Slot Car Racing Set in hand review!

Let’s start out with our little demo video below. I had Mr. Toy Sorceress help me with this one. It takes a few laps to get the hang of this thing. I figured out that the plugger runs the accelerator, but there is a turbo boost button behind the trigger and if you hit it at the right moment, it helps you make it around the loop successfully.

This set comes with two 1/43 scale slot cars featuring Mario and Luigi in their iconic karts, a 16-foot track layout complete with a loop, straights, and curves, plus two handheld controllers so you can go head to head just like the games demand. The track runs on a power adapter which is a really nice option for collectors and families who plan to keep this one out on display. The little kart sculpts are charming and colorful, and seeing Mario and Luigi zipping around that loop never gets old. There’s something wonderfully tactile about slot car racing that a video game just can’t replicate, that satisfying hum of the cars on the track and the click of the controller as you feather the throttle through a tight curve. We want to give a huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store for sending us this Mario Kart Carrera Go!!! Slot Car Racing Set for review, and if it has been on your must have list, you can still grab it now at Big Bad Toy Store.

Packaging

The box artwork features Mario front and center in his red kart, racing along a winding track with Peach and Lakitu illustrated in the scene behind him. A small window in the lower right corner of the packaging gives a peek at the two included slot cars, with Mario and Luigi’s karts nestled side by side in their plastic tray.

The back of the box shows the full track layout, which stretches 4.9 meters (about 16 feet) and includes a loop section, with diagrams illustrating multiple configuration options using the same set of track pieces. The lower portion displays the box contents, including the Mario and Luigi slot cars, two speed controllers, and various track segments, alongside a section showing compatible expansion accessories sold separately.

Product Details

Everything laid out on the table gives a clear look at what comes inside the box. The set includes a good spread of curved and straight track sections, a loop piece, two wired controllers in dark gray and red, connector clips in a small bag, the Mario and Luigi slot cars, and an instruction sheet showing the assembly layout.

The start/finish straight section connects to the first curve pieces, showing the early stages of the track coming together. Two wired speed controllers sit nearby with their cords bundled up, their black and red color scheme matching the red accent clips on the track’s power base section. You will also notice that the two devices with the numbered circles are lap counters, which it counts automatically as you loop around the track.

Mario Kart Carrera Go 4

The fully assembled track takes up a good amount of real estate, with its figure-eight layout stretching across the table and the loop rising up prominently in the center. Red and white curb striping lines the outer edges of the curves, and the two wired controllers sit at the ready near the power base on the right side.

Mario Kart Carrera Go 5

Mario and Luigi sit side by side on the starting straight, each gripping their kart steering wheels with white-gloved hands. The “M” and “L” emblems on the front nose of each kart are crisp, and the chunky treaded tires have a nice rubbery look to them at this scale.

The loop section is an impressive piece of engineering, with the dual-lane track curving into a full vertical circle supported by small black stands at its base. I like how the white lane guide stripes carry cleanly through the entire loop, giving you a sense of scale as the track rises well above the flat sections feeding into it.

Mario Kart Carrera Go 7

The cardboard scene insert sits behind the curved track section, depicting a lush green Mario Kart course landscape with rolling hills, tree-lined turns, and a towering elevated track section that loops over a waterway. The die-cut edges along the top follow the contour of the treetops, giving the flat insert a layered, diorama-like quality that adds some depth to the overall track display.

The front barrier wall along the curve features printed sponsor graphics, including a bold yellow “Fuzzy Battery” ad and a “Bowser Oil” banner with a Bowser skull emblem, both sitting above a checkered strip running along the base. It’s cool to see the in-universe Mario Kart branding carried onto the track walls, with the red and white chevron guardrails bookending each side of the curved section.

Mario and Luigi are lined up on the starting straight, with the power base’s checkered finish line section sitting just ahead of their front wheels. A red speed controller rests nearby with its cord trailing off, ready for the first race.

Mario Kart Carrera Go 10

The full track layout stretches impressively across the table, with the figure-eight configuration feeding both lanes into the vertical loop at center. Sponsor barrier walls printed with “Bowser Oil” and “Fuzzy Battery” graphics line the curves on both sides, and the cardboard landscape insert adds a nice backdrop to the left-hand turn section.

Mario Kart Carrera Go 11

Mario and Luigi are lined up at the start line ready to go, with their karts sitting snugly in the grooved lanes as a hand reaches for the speed controller on the right. Something I appreciate here is how well the little driver figures hold up at 1/43 scale, with Mario’s red cap and Luigi’s green outfit reading clearly even during mid-race action.
