9 to 5 Warriors Lieutenant Lead & Number 2 In Hand Review

The 9 to 5 Warriors line takes ordinary office supplies and leftovers and creates a truly unique and funny toy line that harkens back to the height of grossout 80’s toys and is giving me major Food Fighters vibes! Get ready for the Water Cooler Commandos and the Break Room Bandits! If any of you follow my Instagram page, you know that I am a huge fan of the vintage Mattel Food Fighters line. Well fast forward many years and enter the 9 to 5 Warriors, a group of office supplies and break room rejects are ready to battle it out! I am so pleased to finally have these two in hand! 9 to 5 Warriors is one of those independent lines that just speaks directly to the kid in all of us, and Lieutenant Lead and Number 2 are a pair I’ve had my eye on since the moment they were revealed. If you’re not familiar with 9 to 5 Warriors yet, this is an original creator-driven line built around anthropomorphic office and school supplies reimagined as a military unit. Think of every little desk toy battlefield you ever staged as a kid, except now someone went ahead and gave those characters proper action figure treatment. The concept is so creative and so fun, and the execution matches the energy perfectly.

9 to 5 Warriors Lieutenant Lead 12

Lieutenant Lead here is described as Major Eraser’s right hand man, and everything about his design sells that role. He’s got that sharp, no-nonsense pencil body with an eraser head that gives him a completely unique silhouette on the shelf. His brother Number 2 shares the same pencil origins, but the lore tells us their broken ends will never unite again. He is the rogue, the schemer, the one who tried to overthrow Major Eraser and now lurks in the shadows waiting for his moment. Number 2 comes with a sword, and the overall design leans into that “rotten to the core” characterization in a way that’s just charming and clever. There’s real storytelling baked into these sculpts, and I love when a toy line gives you that kind of narrative just through the characters themselves. At 4.5 inches, these figures sit in a really nice scale for displaying and posing. Lieutenant Lead comes with his pen cap cannon, which is such a clever accessory choice. The classic 5 POA articulation still allows you to get some great action poses out of him, and the plastic quality feels solid and satisfying in hand. The paint work on both figures is clean, and the original sculpts have so much personality packed into every inch. So let’s take a look at our Lieutenant Lead and Number 2 in hand review! We want to give a huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store for sending us this 9 to 5 Warriors Lieutenant Lead and 9 to 5 Warriors Number 2 Action Figure for an in hand review, and if he has been on your must have list, you can still grab him now at Big Bad Toy Store.

Lieutenant Lead Packaging

The card art on Lieutenant Lead’s packaging features a bold, illustrated style with the character riding a giant pencil like a missile, his pen cap cannon drawn oversized and loaded with a pink eraser-tipped round. Green energy goo coming outta the soda can gives TMNT Mutant ooze vibes and lightning crackle across the purple and blue backdrop of the illustration, leaning into that exaggerated 90s action figure aesthetic. Inside the blister, Lieutenant Lead is packed alongside his pen cap cannon accessory, which has a nice chunky sculpt with blue and white striping and a pink eraser tip. The figure itself sports a yellow pencil-themed outfit with olive green gloves and boots, and his head is topped with a blue pen cap that ties the whole office-supply commando concept together.

Lieutenant-Lead 9-to-5-Warriors-1

The back of the card splits into two sections for the full roster, with “Good Guys” known as the Water Cooler Commandos, illustrated against a blue background and “Bad Guys” known as the Break Room Bandits, against red, each character drawn in that loose, hand-inked comic style with names like Tech Sergeant Scotchy, Brigadier Bouncy, Corporal Gain, Specialist Sugar, Sergeant Spore, and more. Along the bottom, a file card panel lays out Lieutenant Lead’s bio, describing him as Major Eraser’s right-hand man with a specialty as a master puncher, alongside a series of comic strip panels that tell the origin story of how these office-supply warriors came to life.

Figure Details

Lieutenant Lead’s front profile shows off the full pencil-themed design, with his yellow torso sculpted to include a sharpened pencil point and a silver belt buckle at the waist. His green camo pants and black boots pair with the blue pen cap helmet and pink eraser on top, and he’s gripping his pen cap cannon accessory overhead.

Lieutenant-Lead 9-to-5-Warriors-3

From the right side, Lieutenant Lead’s yellow arms show nice articulation at the shoulders and elbows, with his black wrist cuffs providing a clean color break before those open yellow hands. The pen cap cannon he’s holding has a glossy blue finish on the barrel section with silver banding near the pink eraser tip, and the proportions on it feel right for a 4.5-inch figure.

Lieutenant-Lead 9-to-5-Warriors-4

The rear view shows Lieutenant Lead’s back, where the yellow torso is clean and uninterrupted by any sculpted detail, letting the contrast between the yellow upper body and the black waistband read clearly. His green camo legs have black pockets on either side and then down to his black boots, and the figure’s overall color blocking looks consistent from every angle.

Lieutenant-Lead 9-to-5-Warriors-5

The left side profile highlights Lieutenant Lead’s green camo patterning on the legs, where the darker blotches wrap around naturally from front to back. His pen cap cannon is angled upward here, showing off the small metal loop at the base of the accessory.

Lieutenant-Lead 9-to-5-Warriors-6

Laid out next to the figure is a small blue thumbtack accessory, which serves as Lieutenant Lead’s Stapler Puncher sidearm. It’s a nice little extra that fits the office-supply theme, with a flat cap and pointed pin sculpted as two separate pieces.

Lieutenant-Lead 9-to-5-Warriors-7

Lieutenant Lead is posed here gripping his pen cap cannon, and the thumbtack Stapler Puncher sidearm is tucked into the inside. I like how the yellow and green color blocking on the figure reads from this angle, with the camo pattern on the legs contrasting nicely against that bright pencil-yellow torso.

Number 2 Packaging

The card art on the front features a stylized warrior version of a pencil character wielding a glowing pink sword, illustrated with an exaggerated comic book energy against a purple and green backdrop with lightning effects. An included orange cocktail sword accessory sits in the blister next to Number 2, whose figure sports a yellow pencil-shaped body with red bandana details and small sculpted hands. He really has a Rambo vibe to him!

Number-2-9-to-5-Warriors-1

The back of the card features a comic-style layout split into two factions, with the “Good Guys” illustrated against a blue field and the “Bad Guys” against red, each showing off the full roster of characters in the 9 to 5 Warriors line. A comic strip runs along the bottom of the card, telling Number 2’s origin story through a series of illustrated panels with yellow caption boxes.

Number-2-9-to-5-Warriors-2

Figure Details

Number 2 stands at 4.5 inches tall, with green legs ending in black boots and a yellow pencil-shaped torso topped with a sharp graphite tip. He’s gripping a translucent reddish orange cocktail sword with an ornate circular crossguard, and the red bandana wrapping around his head gives the whole sculpt a scrappy, rogue quality just like Rambo!

Number-2-9-to-5-Warriors-3

The red bandana on Number 2’s torso is sculpted with folds and tied knots that wrap naturally around the pencil body, and the fabric-like texture in the plastic reads really well at this scale. His translucent red cocktail sword has a nice glossy finish, with the circular crossguard adding a fun fencing-style touch to an otherwise medieval blade shape.

Number-2-9-to-5-Warriors-4

The back of Number 2 shows the yellow pencil body in full, with sculpted text running along the surface that mimics the stamped lettering you’d find on a real pencil. I like how the green legs have a slightly different matte finish compared to the glossy yellow torso, giving the figure some nice material contrast from behind. I just love the bite marks on his back, which lends authenticity to a pencil that has seen some things!

Number-2-9-to-5-Warriors-5

From this side view, Number 2’s arm articulation is on display, with the elbow bent and fingers sculpted into a tight fist above the bandana-wrapped head. The black boot on this side has a rounded, almost cartoon-like sole that gives him a sturdy base.

Wave 2 fun!

Slice Age Pizza has both Number 2 and Lieutenant Lead in his grasp and are squared off against Sgt. Spore! Sgt. Spore is carrying a makeshift crossbow built from a binder clip, rubber band, and what looks like a red firecracker, and his sandwich-topped head with that little black hat is a wild piece of character design.

9 to 5 Warriors Lieutenant Lead 9

Slice Age Pizza has Lieutenant Lead scooped up in one massive arm, with Number 2 clutched in the other, both figures looking tiny against that hulking pizza-monster body. The red pepperoni spots have a textured, almost bubbly finish to them, and the translucent red plastic on the sword clenched in Number 2’s grip catches the light nicely.

Lieutenant-Lead 9-to-5-Warriors-10

Sgt. Spore’s makeshift binder clip crossbow is aimed squarely at Number 2, who’s posed with his red translucent sword drawn and a red bandana mask wrapped tight around his pencil-shaped head. Between the four figures, there’s a great mix of sculpted textures, from Slice Age Pizza’s gooey melted cheese to the clean matte yellow on the two pencil brothers.
