MASK Wave 2 Loyal Subjects Details and Renders
Huge thanks to the Adventures in Collecting Podcast (and to Toy Hunters Hollow for the heads up) for reaching out to The Loyal Subjects and getting collectors a closer look at the M.A.S.K. Wave 2 assortment, which gives us even more to chew on after we covered the full reveal of the Wave 2 lineup not long ago. The podcast crew had a chance to chat with The Loyal Subjects about these at New York Toy Fair and even got eyes on some early samples, and now they’ve shared additional details on what’s coming, which includes the Gater, Hurricane, Armored Assault Vehicle, and Stealth Submarine Cycle. For anyone who grew up with M.A.S.K. in the 80s, seeing this line continue to expand with vehicles that go deeper into the roster is exactly the kind of thing that keeps you invested, because Wave 1 showed that The Loyal Subjects understood the appeal of these converting vehicles and the small-scale figures that go with them, and Wave 2 looks like it’s building on that foundation with some really solid picks. I know some collectors ran into quality control issues with the first wave, and that’s something worth keeping an eye on as preorders open up soon, but the selection here hits the sweet spot between well-known fan picks and vehicles that haven’t gotten much love in the modern era. The Gater and Hurricane alone are enough to get me fired up, and the fact that we’re getting an Armored Assault Vehicle and Stealth Submarine Cycle in the mix tells me The Loyal Subjects is committed to covering a wide range of the original toy line rather than just sticking with the obvious choices. Funky Toy Junky has put this wave up for preorder already so hopefully US preorders should be going live soon, so we’ll be keeping an eye out and will pass along those details as they come in.
The Hurricane is shown in both its vehicle mode and Field Command Post mode, with the classic ’57 Chevy-inspired body finished in teal with orange and yellow flame deco. The converted mode features a pop-up turret with mounted cannons and the ejecting spare tire projectile, and the included figure comes with both a long and short mask variant.
Gator is displayed in both its Vehicle Mode and Hydroplane Attack Mode, with the jeep body finished in a warm orange with silver bumper detailing. The converted mode separates into a hydroplane hull and a rear section with an elevated cannon that features a translucent blue blast effect, and the included figure comes with both a long and short mask variant.
The Armored Assault Vehicle is presented in both its standard Vehicle Mode and Assault Vehicle Action Mode, with the truck body finished in black with silver-grey grille detailing. The converted mode features a pop-up rear turret housing a figure and a red translucent blast effect that looks like it has some nice shape to it.
The Stealth Submarine Cycle is shown in both its Motorcycle Mode and Attack Sub Mode, with the body finished in a deep purple accented by teal and orange pop out submarine fins. Sly Rax is included with his Stiletto effects that attach to the mask, and the Attack Sub Mode features translucent blue blast effects mounted near the front.
