Masters of the Universe Origins Reveals
The Cartoon Collection will feature 6 figures in it’s inaugural line up! We’ve seen the cartoon versions of He-Man, Man-At-Arms, Trap Jaw, Skeletor and Teela and the loan hold out was Beast Man! The Cartoon collection are still compatible with swappable parts like the rest of the figures. New card back art with the He Man and the Masters of the Universe logo and the bluesky with Castle Grayskull from the opening of the Filmation cartoon. The back of the character description will say what episode the figure was inspired by.

As we saw at SDCC 2023, the newly revealed Cartoon Collection will include He-Man, Skeletor, Teela, Beast Man, Man-At-Arms, and Trap Jaw. It appears that Mattel made an oopsy on the graphic and included Beast Man twice but Trap Jaw is also in this wave.

He-Man
This new sculpt of He-Man looks fabulous! You can see that they gave him an all new head sculpt from the previous release from the He-Man Anniversary 4 pack.

This new Cartoon Collection He-Man looks like he stepped right out of your CRT tv and into your living room, bringing to life the our heroic warrior! His cartoon inspired head sculpt, simplistic chest armor sculpt, and simplified waist and boots really help to give him an animated look.

He features the new MOTU Cartoon Collection buck that stands a little bit taller and lankier that the MOTU Origins figures that came before them. Also you will notice the new quads design on his legs, that make him look very ripped!

The new figures have incredible new packaging with a Filmation inspired card back! You can see the classic animated Castle Grayskull on the cardback that comes straight out of the opening sequence of the Filmation Cartoon! It also has a new “Cartoon Collection” sticker in the Filmation rainbow logo style.

Skeletor
Skeletor looks like was ripped right from the cartoon and he comes with his Havoc Staff, Masks of Power, and his Power Sword.

The simple designs on their chest armor and wrist bracers help to give that Filmation cartoon look to them!

How freakin rad is this! Skeletor can don the Masks of Power!

Here is a close up of his head sculpt from SDCC and it looks amazing!!!

Beast Man
He comes with a hover ray that was featured in the episode Dragon Invasion. He comes with his whip as well. He has all new chest and shoulder armor. He stands more upright and is a little more slender than the v1 Beast Man.

This new Cartoon Collection Beast Man looks like he stepped right out of your CRT tv and into your living room, bringing to life the most loveable Evil Warrior’s henchman! His cartoon inspired head sculpt, simplistic chest armor sculpt, and simplified waist and boots really help to give him an animated look.

The Cartoon Collection Beast Man comes packed with his classic whip in red plastic. He also comes with the Hover Ray that was featured in the Filmation cartoon episode “The Dragon Invasion” In this episode, Beast Man uses the Hover Ray to lift a bunch of Dragon eggs into the hovercraft vehicle

Trap Jaw
Trap Jaw looks amazing and finally we get a cartoon accurate sculpt that includes all of this accessories. The look of Trap Jaw really looks like his cartoon counterpart!

Here is his reveal as we saw at SDCC 2023!

Man-At-Arms

Masters of the Universe Origins Exclusives
Mattel dropped a doozy on us the reveal of Lord Gr’asp and Terroar, and a new figure, Necro-Conda, which will be Walmart exclusives. There is also a very cool Skeletor and Domogorgon 2-pack Stranger Things crossover that will be a Target Exclusive!

Necro-Conda
Another figure that will be hitting in 2024 is the Necro-Conda! He glows in the dark and will be a Walmart exclusive! If you remember, he was illustrated on the side of the Snake Mountain package.

Getting a closer look the figure, his chest armor looks very similar to the CGI Netflix version of Skeletor! He comes with a cape and some very cool features like glow in the dark armor and also part of his face appears to glow in the dark as well!

Terroar
If you recall Terroar was never released in the vintage line but he was supposed to be released as part of the Powers of Grayskull line 1988, which got canceled. He was, however, part of a 3 Pack for the MOTU Classics Line. He is a mashup of Whiplash, Mosquitor, Rattler, and Trap Jaw!

Terroar Teases
Hypno’s card back teases Terroar, which is awesome as he is a mashup of several produced MOTU Origins figures! This is the second time now that we can have gotten Terroar teased on a MOTU Origins cardback, so this is a great indicator that we may be getting him and, given that Lulu Berlu has put it up on their website, we can pretty much guarantee this one!

Here you can see what a version of Terror would look like in MOTU Origins form, with this custom figure below. As you can see, Terror is completely a mash up of existing parts. You can see they use Whiplash’s head, Trap Jaw’s right arm and shoulder, Rattlor’s torso, left arm and tail, and Mosquitor’s legs and boots. Again this is a CUSTOM image below, but you can see what it could look like.

Below you can see some unreleased Terroar card art that was planned for the late 1980’s unreleased Powers of Grayskull line. Here it looks like Terroar is battling Slamurai on one image and Plasmar on the next.

If you recall, we saw Terroar in multiple locations of the Camo Khan Card art. Illustrated standing by King Hiss’ throne and also coming thru a portal with Camo Khan, Lord Gr’asp & Terroar along with Reptilax, an unproduced Classics concept, look ready to attack. If you haven’t checked out our Camo Khan card art tease article, you can check it out here: MOTU-origins-camo-khan-card-art-teases (toyhabits.com)

Lord Gr’asp
What is cool about this figure, if you know the history, is that he was one of several unnamed characters planned for the 1988 wave of the Masters of the Universe toy line, the character appeared on unreleased Mattel cardback artwork illustrated by Errol McCarthy.

Lord Gr’asp is featured on the back of the Slamurai card art. So let’s take a closer look at who Lord Gr’asp is and where else he was teased! . In 2017, the character was given the name Lord Gr’Asp and released as part of a three-pack with Terroar and Plasmar.Lord Gr’Asp was part of a 2017 PowerCon exclusive3 pack that included Terroar, Plasmar & Lord Gr’Asp.

Lord Gr’asps bio reads: One of the Unnamed One’s elite generals, Lord Gr’Asp used his vile cunning to orchestrate his master’s escape from the Nameless Dimension. He first made an alliance with Horde Prime and persuaded him to destroy the Kaydex Crystal, damaging the barrier that kept the Unnamed One trapped. With a legion of Horde-armored Snake Troopers at his command, Gr’Asp then convinced Hordak and King Hssss to join forces on Eternia. Gr’Asp and his warriors escaped defeat during the Second Ultimate Battleground, but later joined forces with Lady Slither to reconquer Eternia after the Unnamed One’s demise. While Gr’Asp is a master of strategy, he prefers to lurk in the shadows and snatch unsuspecting victims in his Captor Claw rather than engage in a fair fight. While he claims to admire the stealth and skill of enemies like Slamurai and Zodak, he also viciously exploits the naïveté of younger opponents like Strobo and Prince Dare. Lord Gr’Asp hopes to resurrect both the Horde Empire and the Snake Men, but only to help him steal the knowledge of Grayskull for himself.

Lord Gr’asp also had some unreleased card back art from the unreleased Powers of Grayskull line. Here again it looks like he is battling Plasmar.

Lord Gr’asp & Terroar can seen in multiple locations of the Camo Khan Card art. Illustrated standing by King Hiss’ throne and also coming thru a portal with Camo Khan, Lord Gr’asp & Terroar along with Reptilax, an unproduced Classics concept, look ready to attack.

Skeletor and Demogorgon
It appears that Mattel is doing a MOTU Origins and Stranger Things crossover! This two pack will be a Target exclusive!

Accoding to Fandom, “The Demogorgon, also known as the Monster, was a predatory humanoid creature that entered Hawkins, Indiana in November 1983. The creature seemed to originate from the parallel dimension known as the Upside Down.”

Masters of the Universe Origins Mattel Creations Reveals

Skeletek Skeletor
He has oversized shoulder armor, a Rams’ head guantlet, and he looks like he’s a mishmash of his former self and the Horde!

He comes in the brand new Masterverse Revolution box and you can see the art on the box! Skeletek was on the leaked list of Masters of the Universe Masterverse Wave 11 figures and he looks amazing! Here we can also see the incredible new packaging design with art from the great Roy Juarez and team.
During the climatic battle between He-Man and Skeletor, He-Man proclaimed “It’s not about us” which is a huge hint that things are changing accord to the lore, which is what the Revelation Series is all about! Despite Kevin Smith saying that the series was a continuation of the Filmation cartoon from the 80’s, the Revelation Series proves that it is rewriting MOTU lore and people aren’t going to continually stay in the same positions they’ve been in. They get with the times, people! WE know that Evil-Lyn’s fate is up in the air, Teela became the Sorceress but a new kind of Sorceress that can leave Grayskull willy nilly, Andra becomes the new Man-At-Arms, and Skeletor is left in a world he doesn’t quite understand. Angry that he didn’t help to defeat He-Man, Skeletor seeks out the only people he can rely on. He busts into the Motherboard cult and tries to usurp power from Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw, but this leads to Skeletor angrily attacks the Motherboard statue, attempting to blow it to pieces as Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw refuse to align with him.

Here is what Skeletek looked like in Mattel’s booth. Skeletek was on the leaked list of Masters of the Universe Masterverse Wave 11 figures and he looks amazing! He has oversized shoulder armor, a Rams’ head gauntlet, and he looks like he’s a mishmash of his former self and the Horde!

We got to see Skeletor’s box art in the Mattel booth

Orko and Gwildor 2-Pack
We are getting another version of Orko and this time it is his resurrected self from the last episode of the Masters of the Universe Revelation Series.

This time, he will be coming in a Masters of the Universe Revolution box. He comes with a very cool spell casting stand!

Gwildor
In a surprise reveal, the MOTU team revealed Gwildor! He comes with his classic staff and another version of the cosmic key, this time in red and silver. According to Geek Dad Life, “More MOTU Masterverse reveals! For the upcoming MOTU Revolution series of Netflix. LOVE the @grifflightning Orko and Gwildor. They will both be part of a Entertainment Earth and BBTS exclusive 2 pack released in Spring 2024 Motherboard Skeletor is fun too!”

New Eternia Masterverse Reveals
In this amazing booth display, we can see a host of New Eternia figures and one figure from the 1980’s Masters of the Universe Movie! The booth features New Eternia versions of Snout Spout, Tri-Klops, Mekaneck, and Man-At-Arms (we are not counting Vykron because he is released and in collectors hands). We can also see the movie version of Evil-Lyn and she looks amazing and very close in likeness to Meg Foster, who is voicing Motherboard in the upcoming Masters of the Universe Revolution Netflix Series.

New Eternia Tri-Klops
This is our second version of Tri-Klops in the Masterverse line and he features a dark green paint app on his armor and the sash over his armor pays homage to his mini comic look!

He comes with a new, updated sword and extra hands and what is conspicuously missing is the Doom Seeker!

Here is a comparison of the New Eternia Tri-Kops vs. the Revelation first release.

New Eternia Mekaneck
This is the first time we are seeing Mekaneck in the Masterverse line and he looks outstanding! He is heads and shoulders of the rest (pun intended).

He comes with a giant articulated neck piece, a shield, and his trusty mace! A new edition for Mekaneck is the shield and he looks amazing holding it!

New Eternia Man-At-Arms
We reported a leak that a New Eternia Man-At-Arms was in the works and here is in living color!

He looks fantastic and he comes with two heads (one with a mustache), and extra set of hands, and a mace that includes a ball and chain, paying homage to his early concept! Here we can also see the incredible new packaging design with art from the great Roy Juarez and team.
The overall figure sculpt is one of the best Man-At-Arms designs we’ve seen since the MOTU Classics era! The overall look of the Masterverse figures are more streamlined and Mattel keeps outdoing themselves with each release!

Man-At-Arm’s armor is so vibrant and it’s the perfect shade of orange that compliments his green suit (if that really is a body suit)! The new loin cloth is a great addition to the figure as it separates this figure from the rest.

The role of a Man-at-Arms in the government of Eternia was to advise the ruling planetary monarch and the Royal Guard on military and police affairs. Another figure that was delayed and produced in the MOTU Origins Power Con 2020 exclusive Lords of Power set. As seen in Mark Talor’s B-Sheet design, the name for the figure was dubbed “Arms Man.” The concept for his armor added an element of fur or bristles and had hoses and wires coming from it. Interestingly, like Skeletor’s original concept for his Havoc Staff, his mace weapon was originally supposed to function as a ball and chain, detaching from the handle to be swung about on a string. In the Mondo Sixth scale version of Man-At-Arms, they paid homage to this concept (among others)!

Man-At-Arms comes in a new, beautifully designed box that looks so much better than the v1 Masterverse boxes! We love that there is more room to display the amazing art from Roy and team!

New Eternia Trap Jaw
Trap Jaw keeps the classic design with his iconic look. Designer said he considers Trap Jaw a space pirate with his signature hook and skull and cross bone belt. Blaster, claw and laser cannon to clip on his belt. Metallic looking jaw and has more of a mini comic look. He comes with as well. he has gorgeous packaging with art , a nod to the mini comic when he was inside castle Grayskull.

Trap Jaw’s box features some amazing art by Roy and team!
New Eternia Trap Jaw looks stunning and he really harkens back to the MOTU Classics era. The head sculpt is out of the world and they did an amazing job!

Movie Evil-Lyn
We are thrilled to see the first figure of Evil-Lyn as she was seen the 1980’s Masters of the Universe movie!

The likeness of Meg Foster is pretty spot on and she is highly detailed! What is amazing is that she comes with another version of the cosmic key (you can’t have too many of those!)

Masterverse Revolution
Mattel also has a special glass display for their Masterverse Revolution figures and it looks like we are getting another Battle Armor He-Man (v2) and Sorceress Teela, who first appeared in the Masters of the Universe Revelation series!

Battle Armor He-Man
Since Battle Armor He-Man is in the Masters of the Universe Revolution display, we might be getting a glimpse of what his character will look like for the upcoming series. Given that we already have a New Eternia Battle Armor He-Man, this would make the most sense.

Actually, if you look close, he does have a cartoon’ish appearance to him. He is displayed with his Axe, harness, damaged battle armor plate, and extra hands.

Sorceress Teela
he looks gorgeous and features a brand new design! She comes with her white staff and extra hands!

We get our first glimpse of Sorceress Teela, who made her first appearance in the Masters of the Universe Revelation Netflix series. She looks gorgeous and features a brand new design! She comes with her white staff and extra hands! Here we can also see the incredible new packaging design with art from the great Roy Juarez and team.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation subtly sets up a plot thread from the original Masters of the Universe animated series that was never fully developed; that the warrior woman Teela had a great destiny before her and was fated to become the next Sorceress of Castle Grayskull.

Teela’s arc in Masters of the Universe: Revelation transformed and empowered her as she became the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull. Given we just had a release of Dark Evil-Lynn, this figure was assumed to be coming down the line and now we know when!

Where to Buy:
Since the MOTU reveals at SDCC 2023, the Masters of Universe Origins and Masterverse lines have been a bit quiet of late. Aside from the Cartoon Collection and Fan Favorite and Masterverse Wave 11 preorders that have gone up in the last couple days, we are looking to the future and Entertainment Earth might be giving us our first clue to what we might see go up for preorder for the MOTU line in October. As you may not know, Entertainment Earth has a figure drop calendar on their site called the Drop Zone, which operates similarly to the Mattel Creations launch calendar, where EE tells us which properties will have figure drops each month. Sometimes they mention the exact figures and other times they are pretty obscure references to what might be dropping. The Drop Zone is a great resource to know what is coming down the pipeline for our favorite action figure properties. On October 4, 2023, Entertainment Earth has a drop of Masters of the Universe figures. We don’t know which figures will drop so we are doing what we do best…speculate!
