Mercer GI Joe Classified Series Prototype Leak

Here comes another early G.I. Joe Classified Series figure, this time featuring Mercer, one of Slaughter’s Renegades coming by the way of Shaw Liú that was posted in the GI Joe Classified Community on Facebook! Up until Toy Fair 2025, the GI Joe leaks were flowing and it seems like they’ve resumed with this latest prototype of the Mercer’s upper torso. The tale tell signs that this figure is Mercer is the holster on the left side of the torso plus the circle directly above it. Not much is known about the context of this figure so that got us thinking that they could be working on developing SGT. Slaughter’s Renegades and Mercer is the first one out of the gate OR could they be working on a future 3-pack, which would also feature Taurus and Red Dog?

Will the figure be Sunbow inspired? All signs are pointing to yes as there is a circle on his left part of his chest that could be reserved for a “no Cobra” logo, as it appeared in the GI Joe animated cartoon.

SGT. Slaughter’s Renegades: Mercer

The 1987 GI Joe action figure Mercer, from Sgt. Slaughter’s Renegades, was part of a special three-pack with Red Dog and Taurus.

The Renegades don’t answer to anyone but themselves. They don’t officially exist. They can function with very little restraint but if they are compromised, they’re on their own.

Mercer was the only Cobra Viper that ever defected to the Joes and survived. He had joined Cobra for the adventure and the promise of material gain but soon grew disaffected with the Cobra philosophy. He escaped Cobra island by hot-wiring a hydrofoil and outrunning his pursuers across the Gulf of Mexico. Mercer is proficient with all Cobra small arms and explosive devices.

“Mercer found his true home with the Renegades. He gets three meals a day, a warm place to sleep and a chance to shoot at Cobras!

His accessories include a black “Footloose” backpack and a grey shotgun with a trigger positioned far from the grip.

He features brown flat-top hair and an orange vest with black pockets and a holster. Other details include a silver right armband, black right glove, blue pants with grey stripes, and black boots and belt.
