MOTU Core Gold Skeletor Variant Discovered at Walmart
Ever since the Masters of the Universe Core line was revealed at Toy Fair 2026, the big question has been whether Mattel would keep this line focused strictly on movie characters or if there were additional surprises waiting in the wings, and now we may be staring at the first sign that there is more planned. A huge thank you to Toy Hunters Holler, formerly Toy Hunters Hollow, for flagging this because a collector posting in a Reddit group has reportedly found a Gold Skeletor figure at Walmart packaged in the same style as the Core kids line. The original poster, Ghost Historia on Reddit, referenced the item as MOTU CORE FIG 10, which immediately caught my attention because we actually have a barcode on file for MOTU Core Figure 10 that appears to match up on multiple fronts with what is shown in these images. Whenever something like this surfaces before an official announcement, I always pause and consider whether we might be looking at something AI generated, but after carefully examining the barcode photo and the in cart images, this figure looks legitimate. It is also not uncommon for Walmart to put product on shelves ahead of its embargo date, so this could simply be a happy accident. That leads to another possibility. Could this be a Walmart Collector Con exclusive that has slipped out early? Ghost Historia has said more photos and even video are coming, so I am definitely staying tuned. If confirmed, this Gold Skeletor could signal that the Core line is expanding beyond the movie assortment, and I have to admit, stumbling onto a surprise gold variant at retail still gives me that old school treasure hunt excitement that never really goes away. In-Hand Images
Discovering Pandora was so kind to send us in-hand images directly via DM so we can share them with you all! Here is Skeletor as he stands alone holding the gold Havoc Staff upright in his left hand. The purple hood frames the yellow skull face with dark eye sockets, and the chest armor features a raised gold emblem centered over the torso. The purple skirt overlay includes small round gold accents, and the gold boots rise to mid-calf, leaving the light blue clawed feet exposed.

From the rear, the black fabric cape hangs straight down with a slight flare at the bottom edge, while the gold lining peeks out at the collar. The cape rests over the shoulders beneath the purple armor, and the gold Havoc Staff extends upward beside him, showing the ram skull detail at the top from behind.

The name plate lists the figure as Skeletor as “Evil Lord of Destruction” across the top panel. Below that are the safety and manufacturing details, including “Made in Vietnam,” assortment number JKH88, product code JLV12, and barcode 194735369461. Certification icons and compliance text fill the lower section in white against a black background.

The card back artwork features Skeletor standing in a stone archway with arms raised, holding the Havoc Staff overhead. A crescent moon and a silhouetted figure appear in the background, while his cape is illustrated flowing behind him in orange tones. The lower portion of the card reads “The Revenge of Skeletor,” set against a dark ground with a red Mattel burst in the corner.

Discovering Pandora also posted a reel on his IG account showing the figure off, which confirms its validity. We also took some screenshots which can you see below.

Here is the back of the card art that the amazing Axel Gimenez illustrated!

The figure features a light blue body with a deep purple hood, loincloth, and shoulder armor, accented by gold details on the chest harness, belt rivets, boots, and staff. Next to him is the Cartoon Collection Beast Man and the Core-style figure, highlighting the scale and stylistic differences between the two.

Inside the clear plastic tray, the figure is secured in a molded insert with the gold Havoc Staff positioned along the side and a separate gold ram skull accessory placed near the shoulder area. The cape appears folded behind the figure within the tray, and the packaging layout keeps each piece isolated in its own formed cavity.

A closer look at the torso shows the skull face framed by a purple hood and gold collar trim. The chest harness includes a raised gold emblem at the center with small sculpted elements hanging below, and the purple loincloth is secured with evenly spaced gold rivet details. The gold boots contrast against the light blue legs, with visible articulation at the hips and knees.

The cape appears to be made from a soft black fabric rather than molded plastic. When turned to the side, the interior lining shows a metallic gold finish that contrasts with the matte black exterior. The material drapes naturally and bends easily in hand, with a clean cut edge along the bottom and a tailored shape that flares slightly outward toward the lower corners.

Seeing the full carded presentation hanging on a peg makes it harder to argue AI. The bubble is formed correctly around the shoulders and staff, the card stock has the right thickness and die cut hang tab, and the figure name and subtitle placement look consistent with retail Core line releases. The way the blister catches the store lighting and the slight bends in the pegboard behind it give off real world depth that AI images usually struggle to fake convincingly.

Flipping to the back, the illustrated artwork of Skeletor raising the Havoc Staff in front of a stone archway looks professionally finished and properly color separated. The print registration is tight, the blacks are deep without muddy bleed, and the layout follows established Masters of the Universe packaging structure. AI art often introduces odd symmetry issues or inconsistent line weight, but here the anatomy, shadows, and cape flow all track like finalized production art.

It also appears that Axel Gimenez did the card for this one as he see his signature that is obscured by the watermarks.

The bottom panel is where things get real serious. Manufacturing text is densely packed, aligned cleanly, and free of the garbled lettering that AI frequently produces. The assortment code JKH88, product code JLV12, and the barcode 194735369461 all appear properly formatted, with spacing and type hierarchy that matches Mattel’s standard layout. Even the FSC recycled badge and country of origin callout are sharp and legible.

Then we get the in cart shot and that might be the clincher. Two figures stacked naturally inside a Walmart shopping cart, with real world reflections on the blister and slight compression on the card edges from the metal grid beneath them. The perspective distortion, the way the bubble reflects overhead store lights, and the subtle wear on the cart all lean heavily toward this being an authentic retail find rather than a digital fabrication.
