MOTU Meteorbs Teased In Origins Stonedar Mini Comic

Oh I love when new Origins releases start pulling on vintage threads, and this one absolutely does that in a big way. We now have the cover reveal for the upcoming mini comic Destroyer of Worlds, which will be packaged with Stonedar’s MOTU Origins figure, and let me tell you, this is not just another quick insert comic. The mini comic was penned by the amazingly talented writer joshuaskywriter, who shared that he had a blast crafting this adventure, drawing from some very cool back issues and deep-cut lore. That alone had me intrigued, but then came the real jaw-dropper for longtime fans like me: “special guest appearances from the Meteorbs”. Yes, the Meteorbs and we finally got to see what he was talking about. Those late-era transforming meteors from the vintage line that barely showed up in fiction are now being woven directly into the Rock People story in Origins. Seeing the Heroic Meteorbs referenced in the pages of Destroyer of Worlds feels like Mattel and the creative team are deliberately expanding Eternia’s cosmic mythology, tying together Stonedar, Rokkon, and this obscure corner of 80s MOTU history in a way that feels both nostalgic and fresh. As someone who appreciates when the brand digs into its own archives, I have to say this is exactly the kind of layered storytelling that keeps Origins exciting. Between the cover art reveal and confirmation that the Meteorbs are part of the narrative, this mini comic is a must-read companion to the Stonedar figure. On a related but important note, the recent figures outside of the Mattel Creations exclusives have dropped the mini comics in favor of collector cards, and that is a disappointing move. Masters of the Universe was built on the storytelling foundation those mini comics provided, and it feels like something essential is missing without them. We really need to see the mini comics return to the line. Personally, I hate the cards and end up throwing them away. Also, if you want to collect the vintage Meteorbs, you can find them on eBay!

Vintage Meteorb Checklist

I absolutely love digging into the Meteorbs because they are such a quirky, late-era addition to the vintage Masters of the Universe line, and even though they did not get a ton of fiction support, the concepts behind them were wildly creative. Below is a breakdown of the Heroic and Evil Meteorbs based on the vintage line and what we know from packaging and limited media appearances. Even though the Meteorbs were a late addition to the vintage line and had limited appearances in fiction, each one was clearly designed with a distinct animal-based combat role, split cleanly between Heroic and Evil factions, giving them a surprisingly cohesive identity within the larger Masters of the Universe mythology.

Meteorb Tease

Now this is the kind of deep-cut tease that absolutely fires up longtime MOTU fans. In the Masters of the Universe Origins Stonedar mini comic Destroyer of Worlds, there is a clear visual nod to the Meteorbs that is hard to ignore. The panel shows the Heroic Meteorbs arriving, with recognizable designs like the mechanical Cometroid front and center, flanked by beast-form allies that strongly resemble Tuskor and the feline and lion-inspired Meteorbs from the vintage line. The dialogue even calls out the “Heroic Meteorbs” making planetfall, tying them directly into the Rock People storyline and suggesting a broader cosmic connection. Considering how rarely the Meteorbs appeared in vintage fiction, seeing them referenced so directly in a modern Origins mini comic feels like a deliberate revival of one of the most obscure late-era concepts from the original line. Whether this is simply a respectful Easter egg for longtime collectors or the beginning of something bigger within Origins remains to be seen, but it is a fantastic blink-and-you-miss-it moment that expands the story around Stonedar and Rokkon in a very cool way.

We are not going to walk through all of the cardbacks but the vintage cardbacks do a fantastic job of walking collectors through the transformation feature that made the Meteorbs so unique. Using Tuskor as the example, the step-by-step diagrams clearly show how the creature folds back into its meteor form, starting with snapping open the shell body, folding the tail and head inward, bending the rear leg sections, and tucking the legs into the lower half before snapping the shell shut. The illustrated sequence breaks down each motion in a simple, numbered progression, reinforcing that these figures were designed to seamlessly shift between beast mode and compact orb form. It is a great visual reminder that the Meteorbs were built around that satisfying, mechanical transformation play pattern that set them apart in the late vintage MOTU line.

Cometroid is the mechanical powerhouse of the Heroic Meteorbs. In meteor form, he appears as a rocky sphere, but once transformed he reveals a robotic warrior design. He is described as having mechanical might, positioning him as the tech-based bruiser of the Heroic group, likely serving as a durable frontline defender among the Meteorbs.

Astro Lion converts into a lion form and is known for amazing brute strength. He represents the raw power of the Heroic Meteorbs, bringing a more traditional Eternian beast-warrior energy into the mix. His strength-based identity aligns him closely with the heavy hitters on the side of good.

Evil Meteorbs

Dinosorb takes the form of a dinosaur and is said to stomp to start quakes. This gives him an earth-shaking, destructive presence among the Evil Meteorbs. He is also one of the two Meteorbs who appeared in She-Ra: Princess of Power, specifically in the episode Assault on the Hive.
