He-Man and Skeletor MOTU Origins Reissue In-Hand Carded Images

I love when a toy line comes full circle, and that is exactly what is happening right now as we finally have in-hand carded images of the Masters of the Universe Origins Wave 1 reissues of He-Man and Skeletor courtesy of online retailer Gilaposter KL, and wow it feels like 2020 all over again but with a twist that longtime fans are absolutely going to notice. The Most Powerful Man in the Universe and the Evil Lord of Destruction are once again staring at us from those classic-style card backs, only this time Mattel has pivoted in a big way by giving He-Man his vintage head sculpt instead of the softer 1st Edition face sculpt we saw when MOTU Origins first launched. That is a pretty significant update, especially considering the official promo images had shown the earlier sculpts for each figure, so seeing the vintage-inspired head in hand really changes the vibe and leans harder into that 1982 nostalgia that so many of us, myself included, grew up with. The packaging looks consistent with the thicker card backs we have been seeing on more recent Origins releases, which is great news for carded collectors who want something sturdy and display friendly. And let’s not forget, these reissues include the full power swords, so they are not just straight rehashes of Wave 1. With preorders already live at retailers like Big Bad Toy Store (Skeletor / He-Man) and Amazon (Skeletor / He-Man) and others for an April 2026 release at $21.99, this really does feel like a chance to relive the beginning of MOTU Origins all over again, only now with a few thoughtful updates that make these worth a second look.

He-Man Reissue

The new MOTU Origins He-Man reissue comes packed on that classic red burst cardback, and right away I can see they swapped in the vintage-style head sculpt instead of the updated look from the promo shots. The head has that softer facial expression with the straight eyebrows and classic grin that mirrors the early 80s release, sitting under the bright yellow hair with a clean center part. So thrilled that they chose to go with this head sculpt vs. the original 2020 head.

Looking at these side by side, the v2 from Wave 5 and release on the left features a similar color and any differences should be due to lighting or other photo processing artifacts. It’s cool to see the power sword and shield in full view.

We also had updated images for their product page from BBTS, as you will see they took actual photos of the correct Reissue package which shows the vintage style head He-Man.

From the sides, you will also see that it is indeed the standard blister glued to the cardback, but you will notice that is looks to be the thicker card backs that are being currently used and not the flimsy ones from the first original waves of figures.

The MOTU Origins Skeletor reissue is sealed up on the classic red burst cardback, and that bright green skull face instantly jumps out from under the deep purple hood. The face sculpt keeps the vintage-inspired grin, which is different than the open-mouthed sculpt we originally saw in 2020 with hollowed eyes and clean black detailing around the sockets and teeth, framed by the smooth purple cowl that flows into the shoulder armor. His light blue skin contrasts sharply with the darker purple harness, belt, loincloth, and boots, while the Havoc Staff is secured along his side inside the blister. Everything is arranged in that familiar Origins layout, and I can already see that crisp paint separation on the skull and armor giving this release a sharp, refreshed look.

Looking at these side by side, the v2 from Wave 5 and release on the left features a similar color and any differences should be due to lighting or other photo processing artifacts. Like He-Man, Skeletor has his Power Sword packed behind him.

Big Bad Toy Store has uploaded images they have taken of the figure, which shows off the natural color of the figure and how it’s packed.

The cardbacks are thicker, as shown in this profile view, which is great news for carded collectors as the first 2020 and Wave 5 releases cards were so flimsy.

The cardback pays homage to the original illustrations and art from the earlier releases.
