MOTU Origins ThunderCats Crossover Concepts
At the end of Mattel’s epic panel at San Diego Comic Con 2024, the MOTU team teased the next crossover line! The ThunderCats will be the next MOTU Origins mashup and we are so excited for this! We love the ThunderCats line and we always think about the possibilities and use concepts as stand-ins before we see images of the actual figures. Thanks to Argenta-2008 Customs, a team of two brothers that started customizing in 2008, and the one and only Mr. Home Arcade, we can get a glimpse into a world where MOTU is mashed up with our favorite ThunderCats characters. Until more official news comes out, we will wait and bide our time until more official news comes out but, until then, let’s feast our eyes on these killer MOTU x Thundercats crossover customs from Mr. Home Arcade.

MOTU Origins x ThunderCats Crossover Concepts
thundercats_classics did some digital renders of what a Lion-O / He-Man mashup could look like and those two make the perfect combination. The mashup is subtle, which we would want from the line and seeing the ThunderCats symbol on a MOTU figure is amazing!

Lion-O
Lion-O is the leader of the ThunderCats and an obvious first choice for this crossover line. Will they make a MOTU Origins style Lion-O or will this be more of a mash up with He-Man as the illustration by thundercats_classics suggest? A very talented customizer found on eBay, Argenta-2008 Customs has done an incredible job creating MOTU Origins style ThunderCats figures. You can see them below.

Here we can see some packaging mock-ups by ThunderCatsNOW based on the thundercats_classics sketches. The card backs can be either MOTU Origins style with the Red Rock burst or like a vintage ThunderCats card back, which would be my preferred look!

Here is amazing custom concept by the one and only Mr. Home Arcade!

Here we have provided you the eBay listing for the various ThunderCats customs. You can scroll thru and find the different variety of characters.
Panthro
Panthro is the next main character in the core ThunderCats group. Panthro would be a cool mash up with perhaps Stratos, seeing that they are both grey characters.

Mr. Home Arcade also created customs of his own with this Pantro and Lion-O concepts.

Tygra
Tygra is another main character that needs to be explored. Now if we get a MOTU Origins Style Tygra, that would be great. But who could he be mashed-up with if he did get a MOTU mash up? Seeing as Tygra is the Architect of the ThunderCats, it would only make sense to mash him up with Man At Arms!

Here you can see some other examples of Argenta-2008 Customs MOTU Origins Tygra and Grune shown below.

Jaga
Jaga being the father figure of the ThunderCats would make sense to mash him with up with King Randor of course! Jaga is the mentor and warrior master of all Thundercats. Still in Thundera, Jaga was the leader and founder of the lineage and philosophy of the Thundercats who would defend peace and justice and keep alive the sacred code of Thundera. Jaga was one of the greatest members of the Thunderian council and was also a great, faithful and true friend of King Claudus father of Lion-O. He will indeed be his successor as Lord of the ThunderCats and keeper of the Sword of Omens after Claudus was blinded fighting the Mutants. Jaga was once good friends with Grune until the latter’s betrayal.

Mumm-Ra
Mumm-Ra head baddies in the ThunderCats line would make sense to mash up with Skeletor of course! Mumm-Ra is the main antagonist of ThunderCats. In his frail form, he is a mummified demon priest who is apparently immortal. He has almost unlimited knowledge of all kinds of evil and black magic and sorcery. He has survived on Third Earth for thousands of years, possibly from the time when it was First Earth. Mumm-Ra has a zombie like appearance and greyish skin with big bright red eyes and jagged teeth. His body is covered in mummification bandages and he wears a red cape at all times, covering his withered body. He walks with a slight hunch and appears very frail. He also has an even more powerful form than his Ever-Living form. In this state, he becomes “Mumm-Ra the All-Powerful”. He achieves this form by absorbing the entire power of the Ancient Spirits and becomes much bigger in size with a sinister facial appearance and changes to his loin cloth design as well. To transform into his All-Powerful form, he first assumes the form of Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living. thundercats_classics has a very cool concept called Mummator, which mashes up SKeletor and Mumm-ra.
Thundercats_classics also did a mock up of both cardbacks for Mummator as well!
If you are wondering what a MOTU Origins Ever-Living style Mumm-ra would look like, then check out this incredible custom by Mr. Home Arcade!

Rataro
Rataro is another fun baddie, and it’s a tough one to think about the MOTU character that would mash up great with him. So after putting our thinking caps on, we came up with is the closest thing to a rat in MOTU, so perhaps Stinkor is a good one!

Vultureman
Vultureman being one of the main henchman for Mumm-Ra, he is of course a cool character that would be neat to mash up with the newly revealed Vultak. He looks like as his name suggests, a humanoid Vulture. He has a skin color of a very pale purple, somewhat close to Monkian’s. His most noticable feature is that large beak on his face. He also wears a short dark blue kilt. Vultureman did not have wings in the ThunderCats cartoon so it would be cool to see a more birdlike Vultureman with wings like Vultak.

Monkian
Monkain to me would make sense to mash up with a deep cut He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Filmation character called, Chimera. Chimera was Count Marzo’s loyal and imposing sidekick who could teleport anywhere he desired. In the ThunderCats cartoon, Monkian may not be the smartest of the Mutants but he is a very good spy. It is usually Monkian who obtains information about the ThunderCats. In the episode “Trouble with Time”, Monkian learns that the ThunderCats are searching for Thundrilliam which fuels all their equipment. When he informs the other mutants, they agree that they must prevent the ThunderCats from finding their fuel so that the Mutants will have an advantage. Sometimes Monkian secures knowledge indirectly from his informants. For example, in the second episode of the “Anointment Trials”, Monkian tells Slithe that his information came from his best source, a female whom he claims to have met in a tree. Nevertheless, Monkian plays a key role for the Mutants.

Mr. Home Arcade also did a stellar Monkian concept!

Grune
Grune the once ThunderCat now turned mutant baddie is a cool character. Grune (a.k.a. Grune the Destroyer) is an anthropomorphic saber-toothed tiger. He was once a Thundercat. He and Jaga were once close friends and allies, but greed and the hunger for power overtook Grune, and he led a group of marauders and waged a war with the ThunderCats. We would love to see him mashed up with Grizzlor! We think they have a similar look with the tusks at their mouths and the furry heads of hair!

Slithe
Slythe, lead Mutant enemy is a very cool character and he would make sense to mash up with none other than Whiplash! Slithe is the self-appointed commander of the Mutants, a group that comprises Reptilians, Monkians and Jackalmen. His two right-hand men are Monkian and Jackalman. Later on, Vultureman also joins him, though the two often bump heads many times.

Mr. Home Arcade also envisioned what a Slythe concept could look like using the MOTU Origins Kobra Kahn figure!

Jackalman
Jackalman another head mutant enemy is a cool character to do in Origins style. Jackalman is the scrawniest of the Mutants and is Jackalman is usually an obedient lackey unless opportunities for greater power readily present themselves. For example, In one instance, Jackalman rebels against the other Mutants in order to assemble his own army, which consisted of Molemaster and the Driller; he was quite impressed with himself and preferred to be called General Jackalman. As General he wore a star on his armor and he wielded Slithe‘s axe.If he were mashed up, he would make sense to mash up with Beast Man.
