My Pet Monster by The Loyal Subjects Revealed at New York Toy Fair 2025
New York Toy Fair 2025 is getting under way and we can’t wait to see what the toy companies have in store for us! One exciting new release is a reboot of the My Pet Monster by The Loyal Subjects as part of their amazing nostalgia trip with multiple 80’s licenses! My Pet Monster has become an iconic part of the 1980’s and a sought after grail piece for vintage toy collectors. A nice vintage My Pet Monster can run you a several hundred dollars on the aftermarket. Well fast forward to today when thanks to Toyhuntershollow for the heads up and to Toy Shiz for posting the image, we get a sneak peek at the new My Pet Monster by The Loyal Subjects! Now you can get your hands on a brand new My Pet Monster just like the one you remember as a kid complete with his bright pink crazy hair and orange handcuffs! Here we can see close ups of My Pet Monster’s face and eyes. The color in his eyes look incredible!
There were additional My Pet Monster products, like the smaller My Pet Monster pets, and bag clips.
My favorite of the little guys is the one with the football jersey!
Seen in the photo above, this looks to be the booth display for The Loyal Subjects at this year’s 2025 New York Toy Fair. You will notice other offerings by The Loyal Subjects like My Buddy and Jem on either side of My Pet Monster!
My Pet Monster plush doll was released in 1985 by AmToy. The toy was an instant hit and spawned tons of cool merchandise, a live action direct to video movie and short lived cartoon series. But us children of the 80’s will always remember My Pet Monster fondly for his bright blue flurry body and hot pink hair do with the break-away orange handcuffs!
According to My Pet Monster – Wikipedia:
My Pet Monster is a character that began as a plush doll first produced by American Greetings in 1986. It has horns, blue fur, a fanged smile, and wears breakaway orange plastic handcuffs. The property was sold to Saban Brands in 2012. Then in 2018, Hasbro acquired the My Pet Monster brand from Saban Brands. The My Pet Monster character began as a plush doll first produced by AM Toys, a subsidiary of American Greetings, in 1986. As one of the few plush dolls marketed to boys at the time, My Pet Monster was popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The doll has blue fur, horns and a fanged smile, and is recognizable by its orange plastic handcuffs. The handcuffs could also be worn by children and came with a breakaway link so that the child could simulate breaking the chain. Several versions of the doll have been released in various sizes and other attributes. Other characters were also created with brightly colored fur and unorthodox names like Gwonk, Wogster and Rark. Their popularity allowed a wealth of merchandise including coloring books, Golden Look-Look books, frame-tray puzzles and various other items.
Here we can see a beautiful vintage example of the 1985 My Pet Monster by AmToy from the personal collection of our very own Toy Habits crew member and friend of the Channel, the Baroness of Toys! That bright pink hair and colorful yellow eyes and teal nose makes him look super cute! I don’t know about you, but that’s the cutest Monster I’ve ever seen! And now The Loyal Subjects is bringing him back for all of us to enjoy! Thanks again for the Baroness of Toys for sending us a photo of her cutie! If you ask me, the vintage one has a much cutier face and vintage charm that the new one from The Loyal Subjects just isn’t capturing. But given the price of these vintage ones on the after market, I’m sure plenty of collector’s will be happy to get their hands a new one anyways!
