Summary
The Masterverse New Eternia Beast Man has hit Target shelves and thanks for Nick (aka trapjawguy), we have one to review!!! This is the quintessential Beast Man everyone has been waiting for and ever he was revealed back in mid March, the wait is over and he is on Target shelves much earlier than we anticipated. This version of Beast Man is the classic blend of the old and new styles and is essentially two figures in one so get that wallet ready for some hurt as this is one figure you will need two of!

New Eternia Official Concept Art
Back on March 14, 2022, the YouTube Channel (CDR) leaked an image of the New Eternia Beast Man concept art and it’s great to see the box art that was done by the one and only yo_tengo_el_poder! He posted these two images of Beast Man and the curios thing about the image where Beast Man is swinging through the trees is that there is an ominous image of the head of New Eternia Barbarian Skeletor off in the distance perhaps summoning Beast Man and his lackeys.

Box and Art
Beast Man comes in the deluxe single figure box and the last figure to be packed this was Skelegod! The vintage style image on the side of the box is amazing as it really brings back the feels of the 80’s figure we grew up with but with a more updated look! The fierce look on Beast Man’s face is the only way to give this creature the honor he deserves. You can see the baby blue outline of the war paint around the eyes and around the mouth, which looks great! We also get a sneak peak into the other Beast’like creatures he pals around with as there is a female and another male at appear to be of the same species. Interesting to note that in the original box art illustrations from yo_tengo_el_poder, the floating Barbarian Skeletor head is not present as I am sure Skelly’s mellon had to get nixed because it competed with the writing on the back of the box.

The box art for the New Eternia Beast Man figure is outstanding! On the back of the box, you can see Beast Man Swinging through the jungle in his concept art form! We can get a better idea of what the headdress is as it looks like a hog type animal on his head that he has skinned to give him a fierce look! What is also great about seeing the back of the box is that you can see the cross sell of other figures and it appears that Beast Man will be coming out with the Wave 5 assortment of figures that include the Netflix CGI versions of He-Man and Skeletor, New Eternia Zodac, and Catra from the PoP line! The side of the box shows Beast Man in his concept art illustration with his standard vintage inspired illustration that is how the New Eternia Style box art is shaping up to look like. For example, you can see that the New Eternia Viking He-Man and Barbarian Skeletor have the same style box art!
Head Sculpt
Once the headdress is removed, the vintage inspired head sculpt shines through as the classic white with blue paint is the Beast Man we all know and love from the 1980’s. With an open mouth bearing his teeth, this is the look we were hoping to see out of the Masterverse line. The fur looks very realistic around the cheeks and chin and we love that the spiked bones in the middle of the head blend in and are not painted a different color.

New Eternia Headdress Helmet
The headdress that comes packed with the figure is so freakin cool as it looks like he is getting consumed by the beast’like creature on top of his head! The headdress is cast in a deep red plastic with bronze colored eyes that get blend in with sculpt. There are deep brown spikes running down the back of the piece, which looks great from behind and helps break up the reds you seen in the headdress and the furry armor.

New Eternia Chest Armor
The concept chest armor for Beast Man has to be the best in the line to date! The red fur really contrasts with the orange skin and the silver chest armor has a metallic sheen to it. The silver and red color palette of the armor complements each other well and the white skull in the middle of it breaks up the single paint app. The contorted spikes coming out where the shoulders are look very organic and add a nice touch to the overall look and feel of the figure. The furry red part of the armor is the centerpiece that gives Beast Man his New Eternia look and feel. It protrudes over the shoulders and gives him a much wider, more substantial presence. On the backside of the armor, it takes on a metal plated look that is one single piece going down the center of the back, which has a very convenient holster for his whip!

New Eternia to Vintage Look Transformation
Vintage Chest Armor
Talk about a blast from the past as the vintage chest armor really leans into the vintage and Classics style! The armor goes around his head and the fur texturing and brown washing give it a different color as not compete with all of the reds, browns, and oranges. It has 4 brown spikes around the left and right side where his shoulders are and two deep orange straps that go under his arms that secure with one single point in the back above his belt. Looking at Beast Man from behind, his armor goes down to his upper back and you can see some of the spikes.

Bare Chest and Back
Beast Man has a much darker brown wash on the chest than the rest of his body and we are unsure if this was intentional or an error from the factory as they are first production runs. This is in sharp contrast to the official images that were revealed by Mattel in mid March. He definitely looks odd with a different color chest but if you intend to keep either set of armor on him, the browns are not that noticeable.

Arms
His arms are the true definition of asymmetrical as not only does Beast Man have different shoulder and forearm armor, he has completely different bracers!
Right Arm
On his right arm, Beast Man’s shoulder armor has one larger and smaller spike that are both brown. The plating has an orange peel texture to it and rivets that give it a metal look. There is one strap that goes around the bicep and it hooks in with one single point of contact. His forearm amor, in contrast, has a single large brown spike and a strap that connects under the wrist. His bracer has a metallic blue paint app with a studded ring that goes around his wrist with 3 angled pieces that cover the top of his right hand.

Left Arm
On his left arm, Beast Man’s shoulder armor is the same piece as the one on his right arm, which has one larger and smaller spike that are both brown. It has the same orange peel texture to it and rivets that give it a metal look. There is one strap that goes around the bicep and it hooks in with one single point of contact. His forearm amor on his left arm, is much larger than the one on the right and is more angular and substantial. It has two brown spikes and a duel strap that connects under the wrist and the middle of his arm. He is sporting a gold bracer that has a unique shape and design than previous bracers we have seen the Masterverse line. His bracer has a matte gold paint app that look like it has jewels going around it and also an intricate design that is not circular. Beast Man deserves some bling right??? This type of bracer ties in with the gold belt around waist.

Waist
His belt is a unique piece and was made special for this version of Beast Man as Mattel created a brand new style. There are the usual circular shapes going around the belt but in the middle their is more of an ornate shape that is on both sides of the larger jewel. In a departure from the vintage look, and keeping with his New Eternia styling, he has a Hawaiian looking loin cloth that has some cool shapes to it. It is tattered and gives Beast Man that unique styling that we’ve never seen before. The furry loin covering (or shorts) are more of a darker blue than we’ve seen on Beast Man but the color ties in nicely with his face paint. From the back, you just see his dark blue furry shorts and his gold belt. For those who don’t like the secondary loin cloth, try carefully cutting it off with an X-Acto knife if it bothers you.

Legs
His right and left legs are symmetrical pieces and have the same design and armor but are just mirrors of each other. Beast Man’s hairy legs are covered by a single piece of shin and knee armor that goes well above his thigh. The knee armor has one larger spike coming from the middle and the shin armor has two smaller brown spikes that resemble the shape of his left forearm armor. Because the armor is so large, it connects in the back of his leg around his calf and his ankle.

Weapons and Accessories

Extra hands
Beast man comes with two extra hands that are orange and have the brown washing over them.

Whip
The whip is surprisingly not a repaint of the Masters of the Universe Revelation whip but a brand new weapon sculpt! It is cast in a metallic blue paint which ties into the wrist cuff on his right hand. The cool thing about the whip is that you can stow it in the back of Beast Man’s armor!

Helmet
We described the Headdress helmet above but it deserves a second go around! It is a separate piece from the armor so you can choose to display it how ever you like!

Spiked Club
The spiked club is over the top cool! It looks like a baseball bat on steroids with white spikes coming out it. It also has a nice woodgrain look and a white wrap around the handle. At the end, it has a circular eye that resembles the tow hook attachment on Trap Jaw’s head.

Geared Up
The New Eternia Beast Man can achieve several looks so here are some ways you can display him with art direction and posing courtesy of the Toy Sorceress!

MOTU Classics Comparisons
The New Eternia Beast Man is about as close to resembling the Masters of the Universe Classics design since that figure came out in 2008, which was designed by the Hour Horseman, sharing mostly the same colors and overall design. As before, the figure comes with a whip and removable armor in the form of the classic breastplate/arm guard combo. The spiked shoulder armor pieces and the blue that was used for the furry loin cloth are also similar. The new Beast Man towers over the Classics version and has a much larger stature and presence.

The chest armor are very similar to each other as they both have the blue medallion on a chain with 4 spikes on the left and right sides. Although visually close in appearance, the MOTU Classics version of the armor is much longer and covers more of the chest. The face paint is applied in a similar fashion with the New Eternia version getting a bright white face paint app with a slightly darker shade of blue around the eyes and the mouth.

Armor Swaps
200x Beast Man
Coming out in 2002, this updated version of Beast Man had more points of articulation and an actual action feature where if you depress a button on the back, it causes his arm to move up and down. The figure is now noticeably hunched, with the head lower down to give him a more beast’like appearance. Beast Man’s armor is removable, with distinctive spikes along the back but we removed that to see what the New Eternia armor would look like on the figure. The armor is not a bad fit on the figure and it does give him a different look. With the lever from the action feature, the armor must sit to one side of it as it is right in the middle.
MOTU Classics Beast Man
The MOTU Classics version is almost laughable as he looks like he is swimming in the armor! Given the size difference between the two figures, the armor does not synch around the waist very well and is quite loose fitting piece overall.

Revelation and Masterverse Comparisons
Revelation Beast Man
Many collectors were not happy with the Masters of the Universe Revelation Beast Man so when the New Eternia version revealed, this made everyone happy! With a completely new sculpt, the new version towers over the Revelation version in size and girth. The New Eternia figure and has less of a beast stature and is less hunched over. The skin tones are also quite different between the two figures but share that secondary loin cloth design.

If you were thinking of doing any head swapping, think again as the ball joint on the New Eternia figure is much larger than the Revelation version, which we don’t understand as they could have used the same piece “under the hood” to make the heads compatible with each other. Another difference is the whip and instead of repainting the Revelation version, the New Eternia version gets a brand new whip design that is more subdued.

Skelegod
Since Beast Man is packed in a similar sized box as Skelegod, this makes Beast Man the second figure in the line to match the scale of the evil lord of destruction. With Skelegod’s large, oversized armor, the black tips make up the height difference although the heads rest about the same place in both figures.

Evil Warriors
The Revelation version of Tri-Klops came the closest in size to the ew Eternia Beast Man but the new Beasty still has about 1/2 inch on him, making the figure the largest buck in the line thus far with respect to height and sheer girth. It is fun to see Beat Man paling around with Skeletor’s crew and the vintage inspired look fits in nicely with the other vintage designs that are coming out of the Masterverse line.

Toy Sorceress
The New Eternia sub line is knocking it out of the park and this is best figure that has been made for the Masterverse line thus far. The styling of the figure mirrors the New Eternia concept art in every way and we love that this figure towers over the other figures in the line. It is in the scale of Skelegod and looks so amazing standing in with the rest of the figures. Some of the highlights of the figure include the furry soft goods armor, the headdress helmet, and the vintage inspired head sculpt and armor! We did ding it a half a star for darker brown wash on the torso as this looks like production error but again, we can’t tell if this was intentional or not. That said, you will definitely need to pick up two of this so you can display both looks!
