Check out this amazing review of the Viking He-Man, kicking off the New Eternia Masterverse line, paying homage to Mark Taylor’s concept!
Viking He-Man is one of two inaugural figures kicking off the New Eternia Masterverse sub-line. I first saw Viking He-Man in all his glory at Power Con 2021 and could not wait for get this figure as this was one I was really looking forward to. He came packed to the gills with weapons and accessories and I feel like he really got the deluxe treatment at the standard price point! I will be patiently waiting for the New Eternia Masterverse Barbarian Skeletor in the meantime but until then, check out this in depth review on Viking He-Man!
New Eternia Concept Art
Inspired by the early concept sketches of Mark Taylor, Viking He-Man is the first of the New Eternia sub-line! Viking He-man features the same 30 points of articulation as the rest of the Masterverse figures and shares the same buck, but beyond that, there are so many exciting features about this new He-Man that we have not seen before! This version of Viking He-man comes with an early concept style Viking horned helmet, large golden colored shoulder armor, concept style chest armor, golden colored belt, right wrist bracer and a larger removeable gold & brown colored left wrist bracer. He is wearing a brown colored, leather like loin cloth and matching brown boots with tan trim. His right boot sports a knife holster. Viking He-Man comes packed with a small dagger, all new power sword design with a leather-like wrapped hilt, vintage style shield, helmetless alternate head, and 2 alternate hands. We will explore all the accessories in further detail below. For being a standard priced figure, he sure feels like a deluxe one!
Box and Art
Packaged in the typical Masterverse collector friendly window box, you will notice the new “New Eternia” sub-line logo at the bottom. This is the first of the non-revelations related sub-lines to be released. The rear and side artwork images show Viking He-Man in all his glory, all geared up and ready to attack!
Viking Helmet Head Sculpt
The viking helmeted head sculpt gives He-Man a very unique look and I love how form fitting it is! The helmeted is cast in a silver colored plastic with a nice blue jewel smack dab in the center with some red accents. The horns look like they are ivory and have a great shape! The helmet cut out around the face has a great shape where you can see his face from the eyes down. No hair shows through the front but you can see it peaking out of the back.
He-Man Head Sculpt
It’s takes Mattel quite a while to perfect the He-Man head sculpt for the Masterverse line and I must say that they are getting closer with each iteration. The hair sculpt has the classics He-Man style with a stern look for the facial expression. The hair also has a nice brown washing to it, which gives the look more depth and dimension.
Here are all of the Masterverese He-Man Head Sculpts to date! Which one do you prefer?
Chest, Back, and Armor
The He-Man armor is redesigned with a new look from the first Revelation He-Man release and it looks great! It’s a play on the “cross” that adorns He-Man’s armor in Mark Taylor’s concept art and it gives it his own unique look.
The shoulder armor is a new edition and it is sculpted with intricate detail, which gives it a unique look, which goes long with viking motif Mattel was striving for.
The arms are asymmetrical, meaning they are different, and this gives a great look to the figure as you can see the right arm has the standard cuff while the left arm has a removable bracer that is different than the previous versions. This bracer is painted gold and has a brown leather, which matches the texture of the loin cloth on the underside. The arms are the made from the standard Masterverse buck but with the addition of the bracer, it makes the arms more unique.
The loin cloth on Viking He-Man looks to be a skinned version versus the fury kind we usually see on a Masterverse figure. It has some texture and some nice lines that make it look worn with folds that mimic real clothing.
The belt is the same gold color that is on his shoulder armor and wrist cuff and it is a new design as well! The jewels are protruding more from the belt and have a design that matches the forearm bracer and the shoulder armor.
Legs and Boots
The legs are made from the standard Masterverse buck but the boots are a new design to accommodate the dagger. The fur sits on top of the boot has also been modified as the fur does not spill over the top of it. The boots have a nice brown wrapped look to them with a nice sage green fur topping it, which goes great for the colors they use on Viking He-Man. His right boot sports a knife holster similar to the one that came on the 2019 SDCC MOTU Origins He-Man / Prince Adam 2 pack, which makes this standard release figure feel even more premium.
Weapons and Accessories
He comes with two extra hands, in addition to the ones that comes standard on the figure. There is an open chopping hand and a gripping hand.
This is the second double bit axe in the Masterverse line with the first being from Savage He-Man. It resembles a Lybrys from Ancient Greece although this version is less ornate. This version of the axe looks more refined and forged vs. the one that came packed with Savage He-Man. For example, the cheek (which are the sides of the axe head), has some defining lines and design. Both bits have sharp edges, which are used for battle versus chopping down trees.
The dagger has a short blade with a sharply tapered point, a central spine or fuller, and two cutting edges sharpened the full length of the blade. Featuring a beautiful full cross-guard, the dagger fits nicely into He-Man’s boot although I would challenge the easy access this would give him in battle.
To my surprise, the Power Sword is NOT the standard version that comes packed with He-Man, Faker, or Skelegod! It is a completely different design. The changes they made are in the guard as it is more angular and is more ornate on the curved parts of the guard. A very cool change they made was on the grip, as it’s wrapped in a sage green material.
Here are all of the previous Power Swords for comparison:
This version of Viking He-Man with his alternate heads and removeable should armor and various accessories, allows you to display your Viking He-Man in a variety of different styles! This is great because that will bring variety to your shelf display and allow you to display him in both classic He-Man style, or Mark Tyler Concept Viking style. Swapping out his accessories, head and shoulder armor will vastly change how your Viking He-Man will look on your shelf, but having all these options is just amazing!
Revelation He-Man Head Swap

The New Eternia Masterverse line is kicking off with a fantastic start with Viking He-Man. This new version is a vast improvement to the previous version and not only met, but exceeded all my expectations! The homage to Mark Tyler early concept design, displayabilty options, improved head sculpt and bevy of highly detailed accessories Viking He-Man comes packed with, is why this New Eternia figure gets a 6.5 out of 7.0! For all these reasons, I highly recommend this Viking He-Man Masterverse figure!
