Drawing from the legendary concept sketches of the late Mark Taylor, Mattel’s Masterverse line expands its New Eternia sub-line with the striking additions of Barbarian Skeletor and Viking He-Man. These figures pay homage to early visions of the MOTU universe, bringing a raw, rugged look to two of Eternia’s most iconic characters. With official boxed and loose images now revealed, collectors can get a detailed look at the intricate designs, fierce weaponry, and unique styling that set these releases apart.

Mark Taylor’s “Evil Incarnate” concept depicts an early vision of Skeletor, featuring a skeletal, mummified body wrapped in tattered armor with jagged edges and rough textures. He wears a spiked crown-like headpiece and carries a large, curved sword paired with a short, serrated blade. The design emphasizes a decayed, otherworldly menace, setting the tone for Skeletor’s later incarnations. The He-Man concept showcases a barbarian warrior with a muscular build, wearing a horned helmet, fur-trimmed boots, and a minimal fur loincloth. He’s equipped with a large double-bladed axe, a round spiked shield, and a harness with a central emblem. The artwork captures the raw, primal heroism of the early Masters of the Universe vision, blending classic fantasy elements with rugged, battle-ready gear.

Barbarian Skeletor

Here we can see images of Barbarian Skeletor both in his package and out of the box for us to explore all he comes with. Packaged in the typical Masterverse collector friendly window box, you will notice the new “New Eternia” sub-line logo at the bottom. This is the first of the non-revelations related sub-lines to be released. Barbarian Skeletor comes dressed in an outfit similar to his usually look but with a Barbarian flare to it. This includes his Barbarian style helmet, a large rustic scimitar, darker chest armor, signature Havok staff, ankle bracers, and a tattered looking cape. His outfit has a darker purple, almost black color to it, rather than the more purple color of the standard release. He also includes a more classic style all new head sculpt alternate head, and 2 alternate hands.

This alternate head might be a nice option for those of you out there that weren’t happy with the original Skeletor’s head sculpt to can use on your first release Skeletor, although his hood color might be a bit dark compared to the rest of the chest armor. Barbarian Skeletor features the same 30 points of articulation as all the rest of the Masterverse figures and seems to share the same buck as the original Skeletor. This Barbarian version however looks to have a slightly different skin tone than the standard Skeletor, and also has 5 unpainted toenails (versus 3 that came with the original Revelation release.

Thanks to sites like the Big Bad Toy Store, we now have other alternate shots, including a rear view of Skeletor, which shows how he can hold his scimitar in his armor

Viking He-Man

Here we have Viking He-Man in all his Mark Tayler image inspired glory! As some of you may recall, this look for He-Man came out of some of the original sketches Mark Taylor drew up for He-Man at the inceptions for the original vintage line! He took is packaged in the typical Masterverse collector friendly window box, with the new “New Eternia” sub-line logo at the bottom. Viking He-man features the same 30 points of articulation as all the rest of the Masterverse figures and seems to share the same buck as the original, but that’s about where the similarities end.

From here, there are a lot of new features to highlight. He comes with his concept style viking helmeted clad head and alternate helmetless head. Viking He-Man has large golden colored shoulder armor, with a more stylized chest armor with a redesigned red cross logo in the center, matching golden colored belt and wrist bracer on his right arm. His left arm sports a much larger removeable brown & gold colored wrist bracer. Viking He-man is wearing a brown color loin cloth and matching brown boots with tan trim. He comes with a small dagger and his signature sword with a tan colored hilt, vintage style shield and 2 alternate hands.

  1. Just some details worth noting. Skeletor and He-Man both have a harness capable of weapon storage on the back. Skeletor’s harness is now one single piece unlike Revelations. He-man’s promo image doesnt do his alternated head justice. His hair is misplaced in comparison to the packaged shots.
