Check out the latest news from the GI Joe Yo Joe June 2022 update from the live stream hosted by Hasbro via Instagram Live!
Today, Hasbro kicked off their Yo Joe June 2022 celebration in an odd but fun manner on IG Live today to kick off Yo Joe June 2022. There was a live unboxing of the Dreadnok Thunder Machine and a 2023 annoucement of two characters that will be joining the ranks of the Classified Series. As we know from the Fan First Tuesday live livestream back in April 2022, it was very Classified Series focused and although today there were no official product reveals, Lenny and Emily announced that Shipwreck and Rock N Roll will be joining the Classified Series in 2023! Looks like one of our Yo Joe June 2022 predictions has come to fruition with Shipwreck so it will be interesting to see what will be revealed this month! Speaking of which, they also shared that they will be doing GI Joe Live Streams every Wednesday on their Hasbro Pulse YouTube Channel where they will be revealing new product and putting things up for preroder.
Classified Series 2023 Announcements
Coming to the GI Joe Classified Series line in 2023 is Rock N Roll and Shipwreck! Emily and Lenny mentioned that these figures will have vintage inspired roots! These figures are in the design and development phase so hopefully we can see digital renders this month, at the least! For now, let’s take a trip down memory and take a look at the vintage figures and some custom concepts to see what we might expect in 2023!
Rock N Roll
Rock N Roll came out in 1982 as the first batch of 3 3/4″ GI Joes and the first figure had straight arms. The following year, Hasbro introduced the Swivel Arms to the line, which they subsequently implemented it to all the original characters in wave 1.5. The original figure had yellow hair and beard, dark green short-sleeved shirt with two gold ammo belts across chest, dark green pants with gold pockets and brown brown boots. The first of the Joes took on more of a green shirt look and hopefully they will be adding more detail than the first of the green shirts to be released, Breaker!
As for a concept for Rock N Roll for the Classified Series, we could see a layered look to the figure with a removable bandolier, holsters for his weapons and ammo, and a removable helmet. Although Rock N Roll did not come with a backpack, it would be interesting to see him come with more accessories to make the character more intersting as the vintage figure was bland but iconic. We do love the gun holster on the boot for this custom concept so maybe they can add some flair like that!
Another possibility for Rock N Roll might be his Wave 8 1989 V2 version, which is a very popular way that Rock N Roll was portrayed in the cartoons, and comic books as well. This featured Rock N Roll in his beige-colored army shirt and green camo-colored pants! As you recall, this version of Rock N Roll came with those two huge gatling guns and backpack! How rad with this be in a Classified version? Below is an image of a GI Joe Classified Rock N Roll Custom by Figure Realm that he might look like. Either version of Rock N Roll will be totally exciting!
There have have been several versions of Shipwreck but the most iconic and well known version is version from the Sunbow cartoon series and vintage toy line. He featured brown hair and beard, a white sailor’s hat, a short-sleeved blue shirt with red chevrons on right arm, blue bell-bottom pants with black gloves, a holster, a hook on his waist to hold accessories. He also came with old-fashioned silver revolver with short strap, silver hook with string, and a green and yellow parrot named Polly.
As Lenny and Emily mentioned, Shipwreck will be going back to his roots and taking on his traditional sailor uniform with dungarees (aka jeans for you youngins out there!). In the custom concept show below, it would be great to see actual rope of twine used to connect his silver hooks, like is shown in the vintage card art. The backpack pirch is a cool concept and can give Polly as resting place. The vintage Polly could sit on his wrist so it will be cool to see what they do with him.
Dreadnok Thunder Machine Live Unboxing
In a fun and playful way to kick off Yo Joe June 2022, Emily and Lenny did a live unboxing of the Dreadnok Thunder Machine. It was a fun way to kick off the event although we think fans were expecting more just judging from the comments.
Future Yo Joe June Livestreams Reveals and Preorders
As we mentioned above, Emily and Lenny will be doing Livestreams on the Hasbro Pulse YouTube Channel and we are not optimistic that they will revealing any future O-Ring figures but possibly the Sunbow inspired Duke and Cobra Commander will go up for preorder this month? In fact, we could see other GI Joe Classified Series figures go up for preorder that were revealed at the last GI Joe Fan First Tuesday Live Stream that was held back on April 26th, 2022. Here is the rundown of remaining figures that are left to go up for preorder!
The Joes include a Renegade homage version of Snake Eyes and Timber, Tiger Force Duke and the RAM Cycle, and Sergeant Slaughter!
The Cobra side includes retro Classified Series versions of Zartan and Storm Shadow and an Amazon exclusive Blue Ninja two-pack!
