Check out our in-depth Masterverse Slush Head review from the New Adventures sub-line complete with a MOTU Classics comparison.
The Masterverse New Adventures of He-Man deluxe Slush Head is finally hitting Target shelves and collector’s mailboxes! This completely ridiculous figure is perfect for the Masterverse line, which makes me want Mattel to go all into the New Adventures line in Masterverse style. This kookie figure pays homage to both the vintage figure and the MOTU Classics figure in a reimagined figure design that comes packed with a ton of comes with a ton of accessories and is a deserving of the deluxe royal treatment. If you are not familiar with Slush Head, he came from the The New Adventures of He-Man line. Slush Head is a Mutant enforcer and the second in command to Flogg. He is dim witted and incompetent, and often the subject of Flogg’s anger. Slush Head is from the Quagmi Swamp, a place on Denebria that most other Mutants find disgusting because of its deadly creatures and foul stench. No wonder this guy wears a fishbowl for a helmet because he can’t stand his own stench. In this review We dissect Slush Head, and his Masters of the Universe Classics counterpart to show you how crazy and fantastic this figure is.

Mattel really reimagined Slush Head in a very different way and in some cases he is just like his Masters of the Universe Classics counterpart but with a more updated sculpt. The playability and displayability of this figure are off the charts!

Slush Head comes in the deluxe Masterverse window display box and his accessories fill up the entire window display. On the back of the box, we can see Slush Head and all of his tentacles in a very cool mountainous scene with a moon that looks like it’s from the Majora’s Mask Legend of Zelda game.

On the side panel, we can see Slush Head in a similar pose that was illustrated on the vintage figure card art.

Digital Box Art Reveal
The digital box art reveal shows the illustration without the text or other graphics on the box. The MOTU team has been hard at work creating amazing box art, and As Roy states:

Figure Details
Slush Head is a very interesting and unique figure. Being a space mutant and living in a swamp the fish bowl around his head and his armor make total sense now. The interesting part about his armor is that the fishbowl is connected to the piece of armor. If you wanted to change head sculpts you would have to remove the armor lift it off of its body and then swap heads and then exchange the armor back on the figure. Speaking of his armor, the teal and silver colors go great with each other and the silver really brings out the detail in the armor. On the back of the figure, you’ll see some sculpted circuitry detail and two ports where his swamp generator can plug into. There is mutant, bumpy, texturing on his forearms his shoulders and his head that match the rest of his body. The great thing about his wrist bracers that connect to his biceps is that it’s all one piece and so they slip down or fall off.

His waist pieces also colored in that teal that matches his upper body armor. It has some nice red accents which helps break up the teal in the figure and really give it some dimension on the waist piece. There is some sculpted detail on the back of his waist piece that makes it a lot more interesting with lines going in every direction. You can see in this view and up close picture of the contact points where his armor connects together and if you wanted to take his armor off you just simply pry those two silver pieces together and then his armor comes off really easily. He has beautifully sculpted shin armor and wouldn’t it that I have with this figure, if you take a look at the back of his feet the articulation points should have been green instead of painted teal.

Accessories
Slush Head comes with a gaggle of weapons accessories, an alternate head sculpt and four extra hands. He comes with four tentacle pieces his swamp generator which is the purple and teal accessory a backpack and a blaster-axe. The pack out is pretty insane on this figure and I’m glad Mattel and team gave Slush Head the royal treatment because this is a very crazy figure and even though he looks ridiculous all of the accessories have a purpose.

Taking a look at the side view of the blaster-axe we can see that Slush Head can grip the handle that’s emanating from the ax head which gives this weapon the appearance of a blaster. The weapon is super detailed and the silvers match his wrist bracers and his swamp generator. Speaking of which, the swamp generator plugs in the two ports on his back.

Given that this figure comes with so many accessories and different ways to display Slush Head either in his mutant form or you can create a very silly spider tentacle being with just a swap of the head and the purple swamp generator part that sits on top. On the top of the swamp generator when the purple and teal accessory is removed it reveals a ball joint so you can securely attach Slush Head’s alternate head on the tentacle piece.

So you thought you could go wild and crazy with the tentacle pieces? You can also do the same thing on his backpack there are four ports for the tentacles to plug into to give him so many different looks.

Looking up close at the backpack, the tentacles plug into the ports where you can achieve some level of articulation. One word of caution, the tentacle pieces are not bendy and are made of a hard plastic so if you try and bend the plastic you are going to break it.

MOTU Classics Comparison
When the MOTU Classics figure and the masterverse figure are side by side, you can really see how similar the figure sculpts and the accessories are. This is one of the few times where Mattel directly translated the MOTU Classics version in Masterverse form. The one aspect that the MOTU Classics figure was plagued with is that the tentacles fall off very easily, which gets corrected in the Masterverse figure. In the masterverse version, the tentacles fit so snugly in the backpack that they will never fall off. The other deviation from the MOTU Classics version is that the masterverse version backpack is a separate piece. In the MOTU Classics design, the backpack is sculpted into the body armor so you can’t remove it. The color schemes are very similar to each other, although, the texturing on the figure in the classics version looks more like a lizard versus a mutant being in the Masterverse figure. One interesting gimmick however, the MOTU Classics version came with a plug that you could remove from the fish bowl where you can add water to fill that fishbowl up with water to create a very interesting effect.

Even the weapons are very similar to each other inform and function. The blaster-axes as have the same level of detail and they are approximately the same size. The only difference is however, the classics version has a dab of blue paint near the top of the ax blade and the handle is more rounded on the axe handle making the masterverse version easier to grip.
