Back in April 2024, we found out that Ram Man, the heroic human battering ram was coming to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection. Ram Man, the dim-witted friend to He-Man, appeared in 22 episodes of the Filmation cartoon and a cameo on the TV Special and we are now getting him in the Cartoon Collection. Then we got to see him in-person at the big reveal at SDCC 2024, and have been now waiting patiently for the preorders. First up with SDCC 2024 Cartoon Collection preorders and dropping the official images on the white background is one of our favorite online retailers in the UK, The Whole Shebang! We’ve known for a while that the official images on the white backgrounds are most likely test shots as they feature variations in head sculpts and paint apps. Given we saw the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection Ram Man in person at SDCC 2024, let’s take a look at the both the official image test shot and the in-person images we have for old Rammy there! We will also take a look at the character’s history both on the Cartoon Series and in toy form.

This cartoon collection version of Ram Man comes with an idol accessory inspired by the “House of Shokoti” episode where Ram Man joins Melaktha and Prince Adam on an archaeological dig where they find a pyramid from the Sands of Time and uncover the idol.

According to House of Shokoti Part 1 | Wiki Grayskull | Fandom:

House of Shokoti Part 1 is the 40th episode of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, written by Larry DiTillio and directed by Lou KachivasMelaktha and Adam lead an archaeological expedition to find a mysterious pyramid in the Sands of Time, but a shadowy villain is determined to get there first.

SDCC 2024 vs. Test Shot / Render

Looking at the comparison of the SDCC 2024 in-person protoype and the official image on the white background, I am beginning to think these are digital renders but I am not 100% sure. There are several minor differences between the in-person version of the Ram Man we saw at SDCC 2024 and the test shot / render. First, the test shot has a darker skin tone and more olive colored pants. Now it’s hard to tell if it’s the lighting but the colors seem darker. Second the 2024 SDCC version looks like he has a shorter more squattier looking face and the test shot has a longer face. But these seems to be very similar overall.

Ram Man SDCC 2024 Reveal

The Cartoon Collection version of Ram Man has a more serious look on his facial sculpt than what I remember from the Filmation series but that is a welcomed change. Although he appears in many of episodes with a bewildered look on his face, that would have gotten old after while.

His eyebrows are painted and sculpted very thick and he has very wide, gaping eyes. His armor is light silver and his nose is quite wide as he appeared in the Filmation cartoon.

According to Ram Man | Wiki Grayskull | Fandom

Although Ram Man had been depicted as large and aggressive in his mini-comic appearance, the 1980s cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by Filmation depicts him as a small, dwarfish figure, which is closer in appearance to his action figure with it’s legs retracted. In order to make the character more child-friendly for the sake of the show’s intended audience, Ram Man’s aggressiveness is toned down for the series. He is portrayed generally as a comical character, slow and dim-witted with an almost childlike mentality, but also strong-hearted and easily likeable. He often appears alongside Stratos in early episodes, and later episodes flesh out his character more, particularly the season 2 episode Not So Blind, which shows a degree of humanity in his mostly slapstick personality. In this episode he admits to being slow on the uptake but not necessarily “Dumb”. Another notable moment for Ram Man is the episode House of Shokoti Part I, in which he gives a memorable moral at the end of the episode, telling kids not to hit things with their head like he does in case they hurt themselves. Also in this episode, Ram Man irritates Shokoti by constantly mispronouncing her name, calling her “Shipoopi” among other things. This Ram Man also often has other cartoonish features such as his legs actually uncoiling like springs on occasion and making “boing” sounds when he used his abilities.

Ram Man was also teased on the Cartoon Collection Man-At-Arms card art! Getting up close and personal with the card art, Roy and team did an amazing job illustrating this whole scene and the best part is that Ram Man was teased on the card art!

Ram Man’s Filmation Appearance

Ram Man appeared in a whopping 22 episodes of the Filmation cartoon series and a cameo on the TV Movie special! He was mostly a sidekick character to He-Man and often played the comedic relief! The episodes that Ram Man appeared on included:

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Filmation)

Season One (1983)

Season Two (1984-1985)

Movie/TV Special

Given that Ram Man has appeared in so many episodes, in this case we belive it will be too difficult to narrow down the episode specific accessory he might come with.

Ram Man Action Figure History

The first figure of Ram Man was released in 1983 for the Masters of the Universe line by Mattel. He had a spring loaded mechanism on his legs that made him bounce up when pressed. He resembled his appearance in the cartoon for the most part, but had very limited articulation.

The next figure of Ram Man to be released was in the 200x line and was a more stylistic version of Ram Man based his appearance in the Mike Young Productions He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 2002 cartoon series.

His next release was in the MOTU Classics line by Mattel in 2013 in his classic red and green outfit. He was later released in 2017 by Super7 in his mini comic colors of orange with red pants.

The last three modern versions of Ram Man appeared in the MOTU Origins line in his classic 5.5″ figure scale, and a beautiful highly articulated homage to the vintage figure. And then we also got a New Eternia version on his 7″ scale under the Masterverse line. Finally we got a crazy mutated version of Ram Man in the Turtles of Grayskull line!
