The new retro inspired Star Wars Death Star Detention Block by custom British toy maker Paleetoy is a blast from the past, and takes you right back to 1977 and the golden age of Star Wars playsets! Paleetoy is an custom British toy comnpany that is an homage to the Bristish Palitoys of the 1970’s and 80’s. From the vintage style packaging, to the vac formed plastic base, to the cardboard backdrop, this playset is oozing with nostalgia of vintage Star Wars goodness! Lee Greogry from Paleetoy was a joy to deal with, and he shipped super-fast from across the pond!
Recreating the signature scene in A New Hope, in the Death Star detention block scene where Luke and Han dressed in Storm Trooper outfits and using Chewie as a faux prisoner, sneak into the detention block to rescue Princess Leia. While Obi Wan Kenobi snuck off to deactivate the tracker beam.
In Hand Review
Taking ques from vintage Star Wars playsets, this new Death Star Detention Block playset by Paleetoy is so much fun and pulls at your nostalgic heart strings! It makes you remember the days when we were kids and used to spend hours recreating our favorite Star Wars scenes on plastic and cardboard playsets.
Packaged in a beautiful color cardboard box, we have that classic Starwars piping around the edges, the Star Wars logo in the middle, and an image of a kid playing with the playset! Topped off with a colorful blue background and Paleetoy logo. The sides include a Star Wars logo, the “Death Star Detention Block” name and Paleetoy logo.
The packout includes the vacuum formed plastic base, cardboard backdrop, sticker sheet, desk back, tracker beam top, instruction sheet, and 2 cardboard pieces that form the desk and tracker beam.
Assembly is pretty straightforward, and once you get it put together and the stickers on, the set comes alive! With Palitoy vintage inspired art on both sides, you see a Detention Block scene with a Death Squad Commander illustrated on the scene. There is a large computer display, and a view of the detention corridor where Princess Leia is being detained.
There is even a spot labeled ” Danger Trash Compactor” ! You gotta love that! A piece of folded cardboard and plastic top make up the desk that you can stand a Death Squad Commander behind. There this is a doorway opening that leads you to the Tracker Beam!
On the other side of that door way, you will find two illustrated Storm Troopers leading you to the Tracker Beam! The Tracker Beam is made of another folded up piece of cardboard with a plastic cap. This side of the door has a sign that reads ” Control Room”

Now we get to take this thing for a test drive, and see how fun it is to set up this Detention Block playset with some vintage Star Wars goodness!
