Ghost Grune is exclusive to Comic-Con attendees at Super7 Booth 2543 from July 24th – 28th, 2024, with limited quantities available to all fans on Super7.com on Monday, July 29th.
Light up Eyes Lion-O
Super7 has finally brought us the Ultimate version of Lion-O that fans have been waiting for! Yes it’s a Super7 Ultimates SDCC Exclusive Lion-O with light up eyes! Can I tell you all how personally freakin excited I am for this one?! I am over the moon and in love with this SDCC exclusive! This all new sculpted Lion-O features battery-powered light-up LED eyes and comes with multiple interchangeable heads and hands, three different Sword of Omens, two of which have glow-in-the-dark effects! And also includes a two-headed Jade Dragon, and a pair of Claw Shields, which one is wearable! We also got a hint that a Mummra with light up eyes and we have that one for you here: Mumm-Ra Light Up ThunderCats Ultimates. This version of Lion-O comes in brand new exclusive retro inspired packaging with a slip cover featuring a close up of Lion-O’s light up eye feature! Once you get past that gorgeous slip cover, you see the package within that features a window displace with the Light up Lion-O inside and the Cats Lair Head around the packaging! I love the retro “Eyes Light up” iconagraphy that used to be used on the vintage LJN Lion-O card backs and hope they incorporate it into the packaging somehow!
Here you can see everything that comes packaged with Light up Eyes Lion-O! This all new sculpted Lion-O features battery-powered light-up LED eyes and comes with multiple interchangeable heads and hands, three different Sword of Omens, two of which have glow-in-the-dark effects! Vintage LJN Lion-O
The Vintage Lion-O figure came out as part of LJN’s Series one ThunderCats figures in 1985. It was the height of popularity for the Rankin and Bass Cartoon Series!
Lion-O came both single carded and packed with his furry companion Snarf. He came with his Claw Shield, Sword of Omens, and a “secret power ring”. The Power Ring was battery powered and when placed in his back, Lion-O’s eyes would light up! He also included Battle-Matic Action! As the package says, a secret lever on his back would make his arm move up and down.

Features:
1. Battle-Matic Action: Like many of the LJN ThunderCats toys, the Lion-O figure featured a lever on its back and pushing down this lever with the forefinger would make the figure’s Sword bearing right arm move up and down.
2. Light-Up Eyes: Only two figures had this special feature with the other figure being the LJN Mumm-Ra figure. Both these figures came with a Power Ring which required one “AAA” Battery to operate. The Power Ring was to be worn on the finger and inserting its contact point into the opening in Lion-O’s back would cause the figure’s eyes to light up.
3. Poseable limbs and head: The Lion-O figure had 5 points of articulation, 2 at the shoulders, 2 at the hips and 1 at the neck. These points allowed the figure to be posed in a variety of action poses.
Accesories:
1. Sword of Omens: Made of red plastic with the blade and hilt painted silver, the sword was designed to fit into the figure’s Battle-Matic right hand.
2. Claw Shield: Made of red plastic, the claw shield was designed to snap onto Lion-O’s left arm.
3. Power Ring: Made of red plastic, the Power Ring’s top opened to reveal a battery chamber which could house one “AAA” battery. The bottom part of the accessory consisted of a ring like aperture which allowed the Power Ring to be worn on the finger. The contact point of the Power Ring was located at the front and would cause the Lion-O figure’s eyes to light up when inserted into the opening in its back.
4. One Energizer Battery: Only some Series 1 releases of the Lion-O figure came together with a free “AAA” Energizer Battery for the Power Ring.
5. PVC Snarf Figure: Only some Series 2 releases of the Lion-O figure came packaged together with a PVC Snarf Figure. This figure was essentially a mini-statue and had no features or points of articulation. This Snarf figure should not be confused with the fully poseable LJN Snarf figure which was release later as a separate figure as part of the “Companions” sub-line.

Lion-O was released in 2 variant color schemes. He came out with an Orange Hair Variant and a Red-Hair Variant. And yes, those are both my vintage Lion-Os from my personal collection!

Lion-O was one of the first ThunderCats action figures produced by LJN Toys. The figure was based on the original 1980s cartoon version of Lion-O. Standing a solid 7 inches tall, the Lion-O figure had action features as well as poseable arms, legs and head, thanks to 5 points of articulation. The figure also came equipped with weapons and extra accessories.

Mumm-Ra The Ever Living Variants
Mumm-Ra too is a direct homage to his vintage LJN counterpart! In again a totally new head and body sculpt, this Mumm-Ra totally resembles the vintage figure from his red headdress to his teal-colored skin, to his red skirt and finally his yellow-colored shin guards. Mumm-Ra includes an alternate head, 2 pairs of alternate hands and a knife and sword that look just like the vintage LJN accessories! This is not a re-paint of the Wave 2 Mumm-Ra but an all new sculpt from head to toe! This is super exciting to see the vintage LJN Mumm-Ra made into a modern Ultimates figure! This too is a figure I don’t currently have in my collection, so looking forward to adding him!
Ghost Grune
Keeping with the impressive ghost themed exclusive, Super7 is paying homage to The Ghost Warrior ThunderCats episode when a centuries-old phantom is accidentally released from his prison, the ThunderCats are faced with the challenge of figuring out how to fight a ghost who knows more about them then they do about him. This early image of Ghost Grune, an SDCC 2024 exclusive, with pair nicely with Ghost Jaga, which was a Super7 exclusive as you can recreate the scenes where Ghost Grune and Ghost Jaga were battling it out! Special thanks to thundercats_classics for posting the image on Instagram! Like the Wave 2 Grune The Destroyer Super7 Ultimates Wave 2 figure, he will come with a repack of some accessories with a twist (broken Seal of Grune and his Club) plus a new Sword of Omens!

Ghost Grune
Ghost Grune appears in the episode eleventh episode entitled, The Ghost Warrior! According to ThunderCats Wiki that discusses Ghost Grune specifically, “Suddenly the whole lair starts shaking and when the ThunderCats go out to investigate, they see that a giant Grune is pounding at the lair with his mace.
Still not sure how to attack Grune, Lion-O stumbles upon the answer to the mystery. “We fight a ghost, with another ghost. The mightiest ThunderCat of all!”, he proclaims and uses the sword to call forth the spirit of Jaga. Grune is pleased as that was his plan all along, to draw out Jaga so that he could have a rematch.”
The two spirits engage in battle but Grune’s Thundrainium mace weakens Jaga and he manages to disarm the ThunderCat patriarch. Lion-O throws his sword to Jaga and the battle resumes but Jaga is still continuing to get weaker due to the effects of the Thundrainium. Seeing this, Lion-O tells Jaga to take his strength. Jaga is reluctant, but Lion-O, as Lord of the ThunderCats, commands it. Armed with Lion-O’s strength, Jaga defeats his opponent with ease. Grune, then pretending to offer his hand in friendship, grabs the Sword of Omens from Jaga. However, the sword pulls Grune up into the sky and disintegrates him. Jaga returns the sword and Lion-O’s strength back to the young lord.
The next day, Hurrick and Budun come to the Cats Lair and reveal that they were the ones responsible for freeing Grune and that they were sorry. Panthro is angry at them but Lion-O tells him to take it easy and points out that even though the Bolkins made a mistake, mistakes can be valuable if one learns from them.
Grune The Destroyer Wave 2
“Come meet your fate, Thundercats! Grune the Destroyer has come for his revenge!” The buck that will be used for Ghost Grune will reuse the Grune that was released in Wave 2.
Vintage Inspired Fun
This is after all a review on a vintage inspired Lion-o, so it would not be complete with a little photographic homage to the LJN figures that started it all! I just had to have a little bit of fun with my vintage LJN figures, so enjoy these photos as well!
