Turret Cannon Great Wars Toyplosion 2024 MOTU Exclusive In-Hand Images
Toyplosion 2024 has come and gone but we are left with some amazing exclusives that pay homage to the Great Wars in the Masters of the Universe lore and the late, great Mark Taylor. The Turret Cannon was a collaboration across several creative and talented individuals, including Axel Gimemez, David de la Cal Alonso, spirits_of_grayskull, MMtoydesign, and yerco_ub! We had to dig back in the annals of The Power and the Honor Foundation book to unearth the concepts that inspired these amazing pieces that were offered for Toyplosion 2024. Thanks to our friend, Mr. Home Arcade, for securing the Turret Cannon and sending us in-hand images so you can see how amazing this add on is for Castle Grayskull. You can also check out his review along with the Castle Grayskull Third Wall on his YouTube channel! Timo Mrazek (aka spirits_of_grayskull) also sent over some amazing photos! Timo is also a MotU fan and Graphics Designer from Germany plus a friend of Axel Giménez and while they were working on the KINGS OF THE SNAKE MEN book (which he wrote) they thought about bringing the Turret Cannon and the Thunder-3 as very very limited con exclusives. If you have not ordered the KINGS OF THE SNAKE MEN book, order now on BBTS!

The box art pays homage to the Masters of the Universe with the Great Wars logo design and the art featured on the front of the box, which shows the Turret Cannon firing off atop Castle Grayskull. The back of the box features amazing illustrations of the Turret Cannon with a description plus the cross sell for the other Toyplosion 2024 exclusives.

The sides of the box feature the writing that reads “The magic fires, created by ancient scientists and sorcerers, will blaze again” plus the Great Wars logo and a yellow burst that says “Including 3 different stands.”

Another view of the box features a smaller version of the logo that is from the front of the box plus a section of the illustation.

The set also features a tribute card which lists out all of the contributors to the Great Wars Turret Cannon with a dedication to the late great Mark Taylor and Alfredo Alcala.

With respect to the Turret Cannon itself, we can see two of the three stands featured below as He-Man is getting ready to fire off the cannon on any foe who approaches Castle Grayskull. The rectangular stand on the right fits very well with the classic design of Castle Grayskull while the stand on the left is a more updated stand with some cool paint applications.

Mr. Home Arcade said that the middle maller sight/gun that sits on top of the Turret can be taken off and, we are unsure if this was meant by design but one of the cool aspects of the turret cannon is the smaller artillery piece that mounts atop the turret cannon is removable and can be held, giving a very awesome look and more displayability options.

Here is He-Man posed and ready for action as he aims the weapon for close quarters contact!

The Great Wars
The Toyplosion 2024 exclusives are dubbed, The Great Wars, and, according to Axel, “We decided to name this project after the events mentioned in the first four storybooks included with the original Masters of the Universe figures. And also, because with at least two of the three customs we made, we based them on concepts from the early days of that line. Our favorite version of that legendary world. The three exclusives were primarily for Classics and Masterverse scale figures, although some can be used with Origins as well.”
- TURRET CANNON is based on the version that Mark Taylor made when he sculpted the original Castle Grayskull playset prototype.
- THUNDER-3 is the very first design that Mark Taylor also created for Masters.
- UNDERWORLD DOOR comes from the “Underworld” episode of the 200x animated series.

Turret Cannon
The Turret Cannon can be seen in the first concepts for the iconic Castle Grayskull. Perched atop the left side of the playset as you are looking at it from the front view, it was a simple red and yellow piece that was since replaced with the twin cannon that got eventually produced with the set.

Here are some up close shots of the Turret Cannon and you can see all of the detail that was poured into this weapon that never saw the light of the day.

Now in plastic form, this version of the Turret Cannon is based on the version included with the vintage Castle Grayskull prototype by Mark Taylor as seen above but it comes with two extra stands based on the versions that appeared in the “HE-MAN AND THE POWER SWORD” and “KING OF CASTLE GRAYSKULL” storybooks.

Here are the 3D renders for the Turret Cannons.
