Thunder, Thunder, ThunderCats, Hooooo! I have always had a soft spot for Tygra. The calm, intellectual heart of the ThunderCats team, he was the one who designed the Cats’ Lair itself, and yet he could hold his own in any fight with that incredible bolo whip. There was something so cool about a character who could turn invisible and still chose to stand right at the front lines alongside Lion-O. In the original 1985 animated series, Tygra brought this wonderful balance of brains and bravery, and as a kid I was completely drawn to that. Super7 has been doing incredible work with the ThunderCats Ultimates line, and getting Tygra back out into collectors’ hands with this reissue is such welcome news. The first run was tough to track down, so for anyone who missed him the first time around, this is your chance. We want to give a huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store. for sending us this ThunderCats Ultimates Tygra Reissue for review, and if he has been on your must have list, you can still grab him now at Big Bad Toy Store. So let’s take a look at the Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates Tygra Reissue in hand review!

And then there are the whips. Three of them! A posed whip, a retracted version, and a string whip, which gives you so many ways to display Tygra in action. The sculpt captures his classic animated look beautifully, from the tiger-striped detail to that confident stance, and the paint application is clean and sharp throughout. The packaging features a bold red and black card design with classic ThunderCats artwork of Tygra in the lower left corner, depicted wielding his bolo-whip in a style that stays faithful to the 1985 animated series. Inside the window, the figure is packed alongside a nice spread of accessories including an alternate snarling head, three different bolo-whip variations, and multiple pairs of swap-out hands.

The back of the box features a large, detailed illustration of Tygra swinging his bolo-whip against a rocky landscape, with the artwork leaning into the classic 1985 animated series style. Below the art sits a character bio describing him as Lion-O’s counsel and the oldest ThunderCat, along with details about his abilities including invisibility and the power to create illusions.

Figure Details

Two Tygra figures stand side by side, with the reissue on the left showing a slightly warmer, more saturated orange on his tiger-striped hair and arms compared to the original on the right. The teal of the leotard also reads a touch deeper on the reissue, while the original leotard leans a bit more green in its overall color. You will notice the reissue’s skin tone is a bit more subdued orange color while the original on the right has a brighter orange skin tone.

From the back, the two figures show similar sculpt work on the blue vest and gold arm cuff, though the reissue on the left has a slightly muted, cooler green tone to the skin compared to the original’s warmer hue. The tiger stripes running down the forearms also differ subtly, with the reissue’s black striping sitting over a more orange base while the original leans redder. The biggest difference and improvement to the reissue is that he now includes the elbow pad on his right elbow which was famously missed on the original Wave 2 version.

Tygra stands in a neutral pose, wearing his teal leotard with the red and black ThunderCats emblem on the chest and dark blue shin guards accented with small gold rivets. His bare feet have a nice sculpt to them, with individually separated toes that match the skin tone of his open hands.

From the side, Tygra’s orange and black tiger-striped forearm detailing wraps cleanly around the arm, contrasting nicely against the teal and dark blue of his bodysuit. His bare feet have individually sculpted toes, and the dark blue shin guards sit snugly above them. Here you can see the newly added elbow pad that was also found on the recent “Deluxe” edition as well.

From the back, Tygra’s teal vest has a clean V-shaped cut below the neck, and a small gold emblem sits on his right shoulder. His white and orange hair has a nice sculpted flow to it, with the black markings on his head carrying over neatly from the front.

From the left side, the gold scalloped emblem across Tygra’s chest catches the light nicely, sitting right at the seam where the darker teal of his vest meets the lighter mint green of the bodysuit. I like how the two-tone blue color blocking on his outfit reads so cleanly in profile, with the darker blue bands at the bicep and knee breaking things up.

Tygra up close and personal

A close-up reveals the sculpt work on Tygra’s face, with sharp angular eyebrows, a defined jawline, and his signature orange nose bridge stripe running between piercing brown eyes. The red and black ThunderCats emblem on his chest has a clean, raised sculpt that sits nicely against the teal of his collar.

From the back, Tygra’s head sculpt shows the orange tiger-striped fur wrapping fully around the crown, with a thick band of white hair sitting along the nape of the neck. The teal vest has a raised sculpted strap running diagonally across the back, and the orange and black tiger stripes continue down his left forearm where they meet a dark blue wrist guard.

The front view of Tygra’s lower half shows the pale green legs and the light blue leotard wrapping snugly around the waist area. His dark blue shin guards each feature a gold rivet on the outer side, and the bare feet below have a warm peach tone with individually sculpted toes that contrast nicely against the green of his legs.

The rear view of Tygra’s lower half shows the knee joints featuring squared-off cutouts on the back of each leg where the articulation breaks sit. The dark blue shin guards wrap cleanly around the calves, and the open-toed sandal sculpt at the feet lets the warm peach skin tone peek through at the toes and heel.

A close-up of Tygra’s right arm from the side shows the pale green shoulder joint fitting into the dark teal blue vest, with the bicep swivel joint cleanly separating the upper arm segments. The forearm features orange skin with bold black tiger stripes running at irregular angles, tapering down to a clenched fist in a warm peach tone. Again another view of the corrected elbow pad that the original Wave 2 Tygra was missing.

The left arm profile shows the gold crown-shaped bicep cuff wrapping around the upper arm where the pale green skin meets the teal vest at the shoulder joint. Below the dark blue elbow guard, the forearm transitions to orange skin with black tiger stripes that taper down toward the gripping fist.

Armed with his posed bolo-whip, Tygra is in an action stance with the blue cord looping dramatically overhead, the three red-tipped ends splaying out at the terminus. The gold handle catches a nice sheen where it meets his grip, and the whip’s flexible cord has a great sense of motion to it. Here he has his alternate snarling head.

Tygra Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates Reissue IH 13

Sporting the alternate snarling head, Tygra is posed here with the sculpted bolo-whip variant, its blue cord arcing in a wide loop above his head with the three red-tipped ends fanning out to the side. I like how the posed whip captures a real sense of mid-swing momentum, and the gold handle has a nice warm contrast against his pale green grip hand.

Tygra is posed with the string bolo-whip held taut between both hands, the blue cord draping into loops with the red-tipped ends hanging at different lengths. The gold handles catch a warm tone against his grip hands, and the flexible string material gives the whip a more natural, less rigid feel compared to the sculpted variant.

Tygra holds the retracted bolo-whip close to his body, the compact gold and red accessory fitting neatly in his grip hand. The shorter, closed version of the whip has a nice chunky feel to it, with the red bulb ends clustered tightly together at the top of the gold shaft.

Tygra Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates Reissue IH 16

Tygra is posed with the string bolo-whip stretched wide, the blue cord pulling taut while the three red-tipped ends splay freely to the right. The gold crown-shaped bicep cuff on his left arm catches a nice warm tone against the orange tiger-striped skin beneath it.
